Here's the thing, I have the feeling many of you are anticipating some sort of crazy "smart" free cam that will constantly be fighting against you, and I don't think that's the case. If any of you have played World of Warcraft, for example, if the camera controls are anything like the manual controls for that, that will be so simple that toddlers could learn to use it. (Actually, I've heard several reports where toddlers indeed HAVE.)
I'm Guy, 35 from Israel here. I was a fan of both Star Control games since release, and while I personally consider Star Control II to be my favorite game of all time it was actually the first game and its integrated scenario editor which played an important early role in my decision to pursue a career in the video game industry, and this is where I am today. And so now I have to figure out if I can somehow expense my f
Quoting IBNobody, reply 15 ^ That is way more complicated than it needs to be. A point buy system and a maximum ship count is all that is needed. There wasn't anything wrong with SC2's system (aside from some balance issues that the 3rd party mod attempted to
^ But why are we stuck in this whole, "Let's do what everyone else does these days" loop? Star Control was a certain, very special thing, for many, many people. If we give it a freeform camera, that can even follow you over your shoulder, and not include enemies on screen... doesn't it cease to be Star Control and instead become... any number of space games? Freelancer? Rebel Galaxy? Star Citizen? No Man's Sky? Galaxy on Fire?<
1. I definitely prefer the deck concept. This adds more complexity to super melee and counters the innate imbalance that Star Control has. Sure, this particular ship counters 4 or 5 other ships and would wipe the floor with them, but it didn't get drawn, buddy. Stack the deck? Welp, now you don't have the points for anything else, so this makes the player make more interesting choices when constructing fleets other than "14 of this ship. Bam, done." 2. I'd like both
Admittedly, I preferred the amber UI in New Vegas and Fallout 4, but I also had the choice of other colors and chose it.
Vawl oose ee ah noose.
Oh hey, guys. I'm Vol. I only bite sometimes, and I swear I won't cleanse you. Yet. (Copied from my original introduction) Oh hai, guys :D I'm Vol (pronounced "Vawl"). I'm 26, my dad was an Accolade employee back in the day (right up until a month or two prior to the release of Slave Zero). Spent at least...2 months out of the year until I was 8 living or sleeping at the studio. I learned to read specifically to read the guides for

Holy shit. We're approaching Kavikal Mass. There's a lot to address, but your comments on the Skryve especially stood out to me. I've mentioned my disdain for SCNot3 before, but do you remember the K'Tang reveal? That was one of my favorite plot moments in it. It was cliche and silly, and fairly predictable, but I loved it, because it felt genuinely Star Control-like, and I have the feeling the Skryve are similar in nature. Or maybe I'm completely wrong, but I'm not go
Update: What's that shiver down your spine? Those webs behind you? Don't worry, it's only the VISCIOUS ILWRATH BEHIND YOU! The Ilwrath theme has been updated! This one was a hell of a lot of fun.
Quoting Volusianus, reply 13 I agree with the sentiment that while it worked in SC2, I think the ship models should not intersect. It's just like how in FFVII, party members were sort of parked inside of your main character when they weren't important, but in recent ti
I'm legitimately impressed that the level of polish improved so drastically in such a short amount of time. The lighting feels right, the colors (other than the UI) look great. If shadows impact performance so much, would you rather have them as a setting in video settings, or would you rather remove the heavy impact ones entirely? Because I'm in favor of keeping them if folks on low-end machines have the option to disable them. The Lander: I think this is a great mode
This is true. Again, I think a lot of this could be avoided with a change in structure. This has been mentioned before, but you'll notice there's considerably less squabbling in the first few days after content is shown, and far more constructive feedback. I'm particularly in favor of more frequent small updates.
So, just an fyi, that's uh...you know, it's difficult to respond to that. Is this your first time? Because none of this is new to me. Believe me, I survived the Flight Fiasco in WoW, the release of Beyond Earth, the Spore Collapse. Forums in general aren't exactly a pleasant place to be all the time. And as has been mentioned, if more structured feedback were to be implemented, I think we'd see some semblance of order, but you're always going to have the restless banter of
Honestly, Il'mpafy sounds like a great planet name.
I'm having trouble deciding on the next one I should do. It's a choice between Thraddash, VUX, and Ilwrath.
Quoting Alverez, reply 10 Is Local MultiPlayer A Feature Yet Hahahahaha... Yes, that would have been a good one. But you should have waited until they approved it!
It's also far too many characters :P
I'm using Reason 7 for these. I'd use a newer version, but I comfortable with this one and can't afford a new edition at the moment.
Update: The Kohr-Ah Theme has been uploaded. You'll notice the page has undergone a slight makeover!
No you're not. I hate this mindset because it leads to people doing SOMETHING when sometimes the best solution really is to do nothing and let the problem take care of itself. Apathy != supporting the opposition, no matter how you try to spin it.
Quoting Volusianus, reply 62 I'm not saying I disagree, but there's a point as which the squeaking wheel just gets kicked until it stops squeaking or gets replaced. I know that's already been said, but there's a fine line between urgent feedback and spam.
Quoting Hunam_, reply 60 ^ I doubt the holoscreen gimmick involves more than 2% of man-hours that are needed to make a solid local MP. Okay, 5%. Time has to come from somewhere. A little from here, a little from there, and BAM! Local Multiplayer.<
I for one will be using the mouse to select dialogue, not keys :P.
