The AI not being human-level, at least strategically, is normal; however I think a human player will have both fun and be forced into more lesser-of-two-evils situation when faced with a one-vs-many situation. As an alternative to 3v3, perhaps it could be possible to designate 2 ships out of your fleet as "combat support" ships. These would provide some passive bonus, and the bonus would depend on the alien/ship chosen. Or possibly the captains, if that is an element that is emphasize

Your update mentions that 3v3 supermelee is not likely to make it to the initial release. But. Have you considered (for story mode at least) to have 1v3 in the initial release? i.e. 1 human vs 3 AIs

I don't mind; I'm just keen to see the next update to the Founders Vault. The way updates have been going recently we are getting closer and closer to the point where substantial (and non-theoretical) things can be discussed. Edit: Secondary note - and I'm keenly awaiting to see how deep the custom/scripting system goes

Now, aside from the obviously cool super-melee play... have you considered what it means for the in-world implication of the ship? "Sir, we're trying to stop at that planet and send a landing party." "That's a negative, we can't stop."

Another, whimsical, approach would be to have a couple of silhouette scenes where the silhouette looks badass, but then it colors in and you see what is "really" there. Can be done to humorous effect and or a sense of badassness. Basically creative misdirection. https://media.giphy.com/media/Va35IJlrY5X8I/giphy.gif

Well, it is one thing that doesn't preclude the other. It's in how, not what, that makes it mysterious and exciting. A teazer that is "just" generic spaceship combat will, I think, not generate as much hype or excitement. The only thing that would grab attention would be the "StarControl" part - and that only grabs attention for the (relatitvely few) fans of the original. Instead, I think it is important to hint at both the adventure and the humor aspects of the game.
I Think it just needs a little text added into it, it would be better not show the aliens yet
I disagree about the aliens bit. Seeing some snapshots of the aliens that make the game unique would be a welcome addition.
I think whatever you choose to include in the teaser should at its core evoke what Star Control is, a bit of humor a sense of adventure/exploration and some truly scary feeling of things to come. Of course how you translate that is why you get paid the big bucks and why I am throwing money at my monitor saying, gimme now!
Exactly. Cue my suggestion, which can be accomplished with just hand-drawn im

I like the music samples - vibey, varied, all-round good. What I can't comment on is how well they *fit* their intended use.

hmmmm, I'm not convinced by *not* spawning new creature releases in existing space. Say originally I can see type "A" creatures in the stars I can explore. Then some DLC later I can also find "B" creatures in different stars elsewhere entirely. But "A" only on planets in this set of stars. And "B" only in that set of stars. That would imply some strange genetic co-evolution that is present in specific set of planets but not on others. Also I don't like the idea of having to sw

Kyle H and Spike S were my favorites. The others tended to be too cartoon clown voices for my liking.

My thoughts for the marketing teazer/trailer: A jumbled mess of action and planetary transition scenes, some "James Bond"esque hero+heroine scenes (involving the same alien "Bond" and different alien heroines). All in quick succession. Finally culminating in a "zooming out" that reveals that we're witnessing some alien youngster dreaming himself to be a hero, a dangling appendage holds a toy that is imminently recognizable to StarControl players (e.g. toy spaceship of Ur-Quan drea

I was more thinking the Valve implementation (i.e. you can randomly get lucky and receive a new skin/set - but can also buy/trade them).

I don't recall seeing it discussed previously. Will the new Star Control do cosmetics? I.e. alternate models/skins/etc for ships (and even aliens)? I'm not talking about modding, since that can obviously do what it wants - I'm talking about main-game hats for my spaceship that other people will see when I multiplayer. On the one hand I think it's unnecessary; but on the other hand its imminently cool if I have a "Deep-Space Desolator" skin for my Ughlug ship th

I primarily just check-in to see if something new has been released, and if there's a good discussion that caters to my interests. I *hope* that I encouraged or reinforced the development of an extensive modding system for the game (specifically a scripting system that allows for custom abilities and behavior). To my knowledge there's not been much mention of modding other than in context of "adding your own art/story/quests".

For me multiplayer also raises the question on whether it is server-based, and if so what will the policies be for people running servers. Since I'm in South Africa I'd ultimately want a local server to play with suitable latency.
