In the end it only took 3 hours to download; excellent result. The video itself is lovely. 1. I fully support cuorebrave's suggestion for a customized Stardock logo. Not necessarily a change in hue; but something that is playful and personalizes the logo to the StarControl universe. Perhaps start with the original as it is currently, then instead of the tech-fadeout that is used, morph it to something remniscent of the StarControl universe. 2. I like the shadows an

Okay. Started the download. It'll only be another 7 hours according to the estimate. But you know you should use a decent codec and give us a reasonably sized file - it wouldn't be hard to achieve a tenth of the file size with no perceivable difference in quality. (@non-stardock: yea - don't give me that pixelation complaint blabla; you know full well what we should be able to expect from screenshots/images and videos).

I think it would help if particular points for discussion are raised explicitly by StarDock. Several posts that I review I may have minor thoughts on (either for, or against), but not feel strongly enough to actually commit a post for it. For example, several threads do a breakdown of the monthly update. I look at those in parallel with the update itself. Forming my own opinion but also looking at it from somebody else's perspective. I appreciate the threads, and agree on most of

I'm still in favor of a "full" alien view. However, as an intermediate possibility, I could warm up to the idea of having a "zoom in" kind of full-alien view that starts as a hologram in cockpit view and then goes "full". The downside to that approach is that it probably will only be cool the first two/three times, then not matter. I guess it's a good idea that makes more sense for a game that is first-person to start with, like Star Citizen. &nb

I thought I'd chime in. I love that Hunam_ makes a lot of effort and throws around good ideas; but, personally, I'm not enamored with the hologram-in-my-cockpit concept. I prefer a full screen of detailed alien beauty.

I think the Great Debate is faulty. It is a fallacy that the two camps are wholly separate. Whether there is planet-wide or system-wide combat is not relevant to perspective. I can top-down navigate through 9 planets (pardon, 8, Pluto sends his regards). And I could play a slanted view in a single-planet setup too. My vote is for top-down; but I concede that it might be possible that somebody might want to play at an angle and <

That's a good point, in terms of science fiction - though realistically I suspect that any large scale space work will be based on corporate development the more we go into the future.
I'm, on the other hand, glad AF it's done not out of my pocket. More power to [rich and benevolent] people.
I'm going to go ahead and say that I would much much much prefer 20% of my taxes going to NASA over 20% of my taxes going to the military.

Yea, that's a little bit akin to the final boss battle in SC2. And I do hope that that type of thing will be more common in SCO.

hmmm... have you considered that immersion is a layered concept? Yes, poor AI breaks sense of immersion. But from a different angle: if you know you have 10 ships but you're only using 1 to fight... that also breaks immersion. Personally I'm against wingman AI. That is like picturing super-melee like World War 2 naval battles. Fleets in formation doing coordinated bombardment. That's not the kind of battle I'm seeking. I picture ace pilots pitted against

Look, I agree that for a good while still we'll have the highest level of challenge when we face smart primates rather than an AI. And that's okay. I don't expect the 1v1 AI to fool me more than once. I don't expect a 3v3 AI to redefine the way I look at computer games. But I do play Dota2 frequently, and I regularly play bot matches (5v5, with me being the only human). The AI is predictable. The AI can respond with super-human speed to situations (thus fails to be hum

I've burnt way too many hours on Grim Dawn (and still more to come). My disappointment for Diablo3 (specifically lack of offline play) was pretty deep; Grim Dawn filled the void nicely and the game respects my desire for deep and complex build options moer so than any other aRPG that I know of.

I'm wondering, Kavik_Kang, if your AI knowledge is based on trying to make a proper "wingman" AI in a military sense. Because that is not what SCO needs or wants. Step away from the military picture of this, and instead imagine 3 friends playing super-melee against 3 other people. Coordinated flight in formation? Nope. Coordinated firing patterns? Nope. Just 3 kids having fun and blasting the other guys' ships out of the sky (and possibly doing their moms). Obviously there is

Personally I want the multi-ship combat. Both in campaign and super-melee. But I'm okay with it not being available on launch. Expanding the game to multi-ship is exactly the kind of major game-changer that I'd want in an expansion. And it would completely justify replaying the main game again. That said... there are additional possibilities that could be considered now already: (human) super melee could already be 3v3 - no AI to worry abou

I understand that their current development places no more emphasis on multi-ship combat for single-player; but I really hope they do not let that stop them from adding it eventually. ... Also, please, do not just include an ability adjustment system for making our own ships. Full blown script system for complete custom concepts, please.

My input on this is neutral. I don't feel strongly for or against it. Perhaps if the devs are interested in the idea, but do not see if fitting into their current development plans - then it could be implemented as part of a future expansion.
Quoting Kavik_Kang, reply 6 The "Star Clusters" are like the "Octants" of the SFU. Places far away from the "Alpha Octant" of the "main game" that Stardock is making. So when you make your own mod "universe" it will actually be said to be just a place in the universe,
Really great suggestion. I think having atmospheric effects like this in place of (or in addition to) the exaggerated geographical features would go a long way towards assuaging the criticisms of it looking unrealistic in a goofy way, and instead make it unrealistic in a more acceptable "fantasy" way. As a side note: regarding planet visualization, I think over-emphasizing the atmosphere (especially in solar system flight) looks way cooler and potentially more memorable/recognizable than over-emphasizing the surface:

Instead of gravity rings or wells, what about not showing those and instead showing a visible drag force on ships that are affected by gravity? That can both be made to look cool and doesn't break suspension of disbelieve the way a well/ring does. (Also down the line, the way the gravity force displays could be a cosmetic that can be changed with the appropriate "hat".)

There are so many little details in the original - I think it is the sum of these that make the game timeless

Regarding the solar system planet display: I think they need a prominent atmosphere. That has the advantage of masking the excessive planetary features a bit (without actually removing them) - while also looking awesome.
