I am playing on a small map as TEC Loyalist against the AI. I wanted to build a Ankylon Titan, but the game says I have no spare captain and should research this. I have two capital ships and one spare captain? Anyone know what I should do? Thanks

I have just played a few short single player games in Rebellion and would like to ask if the game penalizes the player, or even the AI, for not playing to type? If, say, the TEC loyalist, whose style of play is defensive, plays aggressively in the early game, would the game put him at a greater disadvantage? Although this game seems more balanced than previous editions, jumping planets still seems a problem, even on easy and normal. I saw a weakness in the AI's strategy (he was, i
OKAY, I have the solution. I didn't know that to access the dev.exe the game had to be started from the root file first. I thought that when the game was started normally (from the shortcut) it was starting from the root file. My apologies if I have misunderstood your instructions. Thanks for your help.
Thanks again. When using the ctrl\shift\. not only does the lock symbol show on the zoom to cursor (and the cursor show the icon for the zoom to cursor), but the credits and resources jump to ten times their worth? I checked the integrity of the files and they were fine. I also uninstalled the game and re-installed, but still having the same problems.
Just a few small things. I think all keys are working as I have no problem writing or using other ctrl\shift combinations. The interface in Rebellion is slightly different from all previous versions. All the other versions have no gap between the stack symbol and the menu, but in Rebellion there is a gap after the stack symbol followed by my e.mail address and then the menu in the HUD. Is this as it should be?
Thanks again for your reply. I am at a loss. Have tried all you said and get the same result. (with the lock symbol on the Zoom to Cursor, this icon also shows on the cursor). There is otherwise no change. I may have to forego the option, but it all seems odd.
Thanks GoaFan77 for your reply. I have tried many times (have just this moment tried) without success? All three keys were pressed simultaneously.
Can someone please help. I am trying to access the dev.exe files and every time I press CTRL\SHIFT\. in-game I get a temporary lock symbol on the Zoom to Cursor in all versions of the game. Thanks
Can I ask the Rebellion developers to produce fewer AI cheats on normal or easy difficulty for a more subtle strategic front? I have detailed elsewhere in the forums some of these cheats, but will give here only one recent example. I was playing the Point Blank map TEC v (random) TEC when, about 15 mins into the game I decided to go in for the kill. I owned two planets as did the enemy and I calculated, fairly accurately, that the enemy would lose one its planets, if not its h
Thanks again Saluceia. I looked at the thread you provided, but I still need to access the game console to take advantage of it. I did add - console to the shortcut, but pressing CTRL\SHIFT\"." or Tilda keys simultaneously in-game had the same effect - lock symbol on the Zoom to Cursor icon. The game is replete with advantages given to the AI even on easy or normal difficulty. Here is one I recently discovered. I wanted to send a fleet to a planet and there were two routes available,
Thanks again for your replies. Seleuceia : Not much luck here. Ctrl\shift\"." only showed a temporary lock symbol on the zoom to cursor icon. I tried Ctrl\Tilda with the same effect. ( I am using a UK English keyboard). I looked in the game files, but could only find one dev.exe that simply started the game. Ryat & Black-Ni : I have only used normal difficulty and other players have confirmed my findings on the original SOASE and these cheats have been carried forward into
Thanks Seleuceia for your reply. I am not sure how to watch the AI dev.exe. Presumably I need to get into the console? I am not sure this game is any longer playable against the AI unless improvements are made, for the simple reason I am wasting my time pretending it is strategic when the program does what it likes. I tried a Diplomatic game in Trinity which resulted in a catch 22 situation. If I tried a mission given by one faction I would be jumped by the other. If I didn't take
Thanks for your replies. Ryat : I have played SOASE for some time and in all the games what I reported happens. Have a close look. The official line is that only above normal difficulty do cheats occur. What I have outlined may not be normally conceived of as cheating, but gives a huge advantage to the enemy AI by reinventing the rules. There are many other ways it does this. For example, when I team jumped (in middle game) the program sent in a few strong units without any support an
I have just played a few speculative games to see if there were any improvements in the way the AI plays and I cannot find any. These games were 1v1 TEC v (random) TEC. on normal aggression. I had two planets in my possession as did the AI both with minimal, though different, fleets and units in the early part of the game. I had a Corbet on each of the enemy's planet showing the information I wanted. I calculated roughly that the enemy would lose one of its planets if I invaded bo
GoaFan77 : I am sure your right about the probe. Time moves fast playing this game and what might seem a few minutes may, in reality, be much longer. I have only used the probe upgrade once. The scout in the middle to late game hardly ever gets through, but the enemy scout always does even with jump inhibitors in place. I rarely, if ever, get to recon the enemy's home planet, as the scout usually has to pass through enemy lines before it reaches the enemy's home planet with no short c
Volt_Cruelerz : Thanks for your reply and advice. I will try next time to move forward towards the enemy first, so the jump may be more uniform. This still leaves the problem of the enemy scout popping up from nowhere to prevent the jump. I have not played against a human player before, as my knowledge of opposing factions and what is best to oppose what in battle, is still only limited to TEC. Mostly I have found it unnecessary when playing the computer to micromanage the battle. I d
Thanks for your replies. Hemomancer: I probably will buy Rebellion. I am weak! I like the game too much not to. Thanks for your advice. If I lose a game, I want to know why. I have looked at the forums extensively and there is much contradictory information out there so, as you say, success has to won by experience. This is hugely time consuming as some games have lasted 8 or so hours. This is one of the things I like about it, it has depth, and the other strength of the game is bitte
I played SOASE a few years ago and always found it compulsive gaming. I came back to it recently and still found it addictive, but there were traits that left me disappointed. Those traits were AI cheats. These are used to defeat the player and prolong the game. No matter what level of difficulty is played, the AI always has the upper hand and tricks on hand that are not available to the player. Take that pesky little AI scout, which pops up everywhere like a flea just to irritate the player
Watched it. You certainly routed the enemy in 1 hour. First time I have seen a win, apart from Myles's game. Will try a game today.
Watched the complete first version. You had the advantage, sustained it and eventually increased it. Definite win. First time I have seen one. Will try a game sometime today and report back on my findings.
I have just watched the replay you provided again and it was instructive. There are many peculiarities in this game I have never seen in my games. I have not seen, for example, the enemy player flee when it had a viable chance of defeating my forces or seriously damaging them, my capital ships are ususally time-out in 10 to 30 seconds or so and your scouts survive much longer than mine, etc. Nonetheless this is not a winning game. As you said, you have slight advantage at the en
I was using the term 'video' for replay. I have never seen a winning replay of this game. I believe it is unwinnable because of the system of cheats it has. If anyone can demonstrate differently then I would like to see it. For those who believe this game is easy (or anyone for that matter) they should be able to reproduce a win on the simple map and post it here. Thanks
Okay. I have not seen a winning video nor have I found one online.
Thanks Myles for your detailed description. I would be interested in seeing the winning video. Thanks. By the way, how did you have such detailed knowledge of what the enemy player had researched and acquired?
That I took 15 minutes to start expansion, is exceptional. See my last posting. Note: I have been advised more than once by many players of this game to concentrate first upgrading my Capital Planet and then expanding, and this would take 10 to 15 minutes. This seems right to me. There is much contradictory advice on this site. If you would like to post your winning games here, I would be pleased to view them. Your definitely a very scary guy.
