In regards to the space themed music... so I'm assuming that there won't be overlapping spheres of influence as there was in SC2 (ie Ur-Quan vs Kohr-Ah) as there would be a conflict as to what music should be playing... So we can surmise that various territories will have hard boundaries then if we're going this path of development?

I just bought Ashes of the Singularity after a couple of weeks in Japan (and immersing myself whole-heartedly in Gundam mania, amongst other anime). Blown away, Stardock, blown away. I think I can wait a few more months (jk) now for SCR while I play through Ashes, so take your time SD. If your polish on SCR is anything like it was on Ashes, then I will happily wait patiently.
I'm not crazy about the exploration clip. Too much of an angle, and I'd like a general overview of the whole system when I warp in, not just part of it. If I have to get closer to view the exact features of a planet, that's fine, but let me see the entire system first.
Agreed. Players need a whole view of the system the majority of the time so that they can navigate to outlying planets that may no
Anyway, this is space we are talking about. With ships that magically fly in the black emptiness, and scanners that can see the core of any planet, and weapons that can lure you into open space, or melt you from inside out. And yet we have no radars in battles to have an overview of the battlefield and detect the enemy? You know what they say about games like that......
</p

Even though Paul Reiche isn't involved in SCR, maybe SD could honor him with some Archon-inspired ships: Name: Knight (aka Zot-Fot-Pik Stinger) Velocity: Medium Acceleration: Medium Turning Rate: Fast Primary Weapon: Sword - short range high damage physical attack Secondary Weapon: Shield - brings up a limited range directional barrier that lasts a short time Name: Shapeshifter</

I didn't see this topic started so I thought I'd get the ball rolling. I again think the video is too short to give a deep opinion but my immediate thoughts: All planetary labels should always be on or off, as toggled by the player Having the celestial bodies move around the star in orbit is cool, but maybe slow it down Akin to the camera controversy in battle, some people will hate this perspective. Give the player settings/options for
It's easier to look down the barrel to aim certain weapons than it is to aim radially like a clock. Again, it's situational. There are times when I'd use different camera modes. Being locked into just one view is a disadvantage.
Agreed, don't lock the user into one view, give him choices or the ability to customize, especially given ships with different movement and weapon mechanics. IBNobody, your featu
I just want to reiterate that unless you're speaking to the same individual all the time, the subject as well as the backgrounds should vary, to reflect that you're talking to different members of the same species. Background music/ambient sounds need not change, but the indivi
You are probably asking yourself why I see a difference between the two approaches. Let me use an example. Imagine having explored 100 worlds. 10 of these worlds have a secret stash of special minerals buried deep beneath the crust. If high-tech scanners were required to detect special minerals, I'd have to re-explore all 100 worlds to make sure I didn't miss any of them. If low-tech scanners could detect but not identify special min
A clone is usually defined as a copy of a competitive product that has the same or close to the same mechanic features and systems. Typically a clone's design is a copy of a successful design but is not implemented correctly or executed as well, and is released while the competitive product is considered viable in the market. There is typically very little to no iteration or innovation in the systems between the cloned product and the ori
Aren't you building a clone? Isn't that what we want?
They're building a new and improved clone with (compared to SC2) better visuals and gameplay. This clone will be familiar to the original, but likely in many parts will be unrecognizable. Whether that clone will actually be better though... only time will tell.

Totally totally agree. If SCR gives you the freedom to explore the galaxy or customize your fleet, you should also have the freedom to take whatever path you want to reach your goals, good or bad. There should be multiple ways to the same end, if not for moral freedom, at least for redundant ways to complete tasks/missions.

Voted. I'm open to varying arena physics based on the environment, so maybe sometimes its inertia driven, sometimes its arcade assisted, and sometimes its something else, depending on where the battle is taking place. I care more about not dying after winning a fight because I inadvertently bumped into the planet afterwards. [e digicons]:annoyed:[/e]

Beautiful rendering, nice job SD! The Mukay seem like an amiable race, wouldn't we be shocked if they turned out to be evil despots? The concepts of the planet exploration all show environments that could be argued as earth-like though on a planetary scale, since each planet seems to be so tiny as to have a curved horizon. I'm more curious in seeing the more exotic worlds, ie the so called treasure or rainbow worlds (or even gas/liquid worlds). The st
