If i'm a gamer, i just use windows. If i'm a professional + gamer i install windows + Linux or MacOS. Emulators or implementation of the Win32 libraries just to be able to play some games gives you more problems than just installing 2 OS on the same machine.

I like the complete list, expecially Nr.10, it's annoying as hell to keep your CD/DVD in your DVD-ROM just to check for the original. No-cd patches are still not allowed to use, but i use them nowadays anyway because without them - it hurts the CD/DVDs in the long term (CD/DVDs should be only needed if you want to install the game) - and it's just super annoying to switch the discs, expecially if you have like 20+ games installed. <p
Ironclad has two additional micro-expansions in development as well. One of which adds new diplomacy features to the game and another that will add new technologies and ships.
Sounds like a good plan, instead of selling 1 expansion pack for 29.99$ you develop 3 mini-expansion packs for 9.95$ each. Players can just buy the features they really want. I like all three, so i will just buy everything anyway :p
Shader 3 - that's DirectX 9, right? That's the GeForce 6 and 7 series - you should be able to get one for $20.
If i had to buy a card with shader 3 i would want atleast an high-end 7800+. But yeah, s3 cards are actually cheap :)
Can't wait to show you guys what we've been doing
Can't wait to actually play or maybe beta test all the new nifty things, the good thing is, i just like every theme and Not-MoM will be very interesting.
I agree 100% with that. I also think that your team has took the good decision for GCIII (comes after the new fantasy game). GC III will be just better!! Regards, P.S. Sorry if my English is not good.
Yeah, shader 3.0 is what most of our code is written for. Theres some cool stuff in s4 we'll make use of, and we NEED to support s2 (turn based games don't hold the same hardware clout as FPS's), but in the end we're shooting for it to look great across the board.
Yes, totally agree with s2.0, i know many friends who just can't afford a new card with s3.0, let alone 4.0 or 4.1 support. It would suck to not be able to play such games only because of the

Well, normally i would say a quadcore isn't the right choice for most of the games still, but since you do have the Q9450 CPU you are actually in a good shape. I have a similiar Setup but with a core2duo E8600 (3.33 Ghz), 4 GB DDR3 1600Mhz and Geforce 9800 GX2, bought GX2 because it runs faster on 1280x1024 resolution than the 280 which has the lead in the higher resolution 1600xsomething. I actually plan to trible SLI 280 one day though. However, i notice the same issues
DirectX 9c (Shader2) will be our min requirement. The engine is built to allow DirecttX10 and 11 support too, so we'll see what expanded features those libraries allow.
Make use of Shader Model 3.0 or better 4.0 too :)
1 thing which could also be fixed with the AI is its tendensy to retreat quickly when they become under attack because nearly every time i attack the enemy AI's planet with 100 ships and they have 100 ships, they run nearly instantly from an even fight Also when the AI attacks without scouting the enemy planet, phase jumps in and retreats almost instantl
Yeah that's really annoying, and if you come to help an AI ally, he flees anyways, even if you outnumber the o
the real isn't isn't "would you buy multiplayer if you could?" the real issue is "would you prefer SD devote its resources to multiplayer in lieu of other features?" and the answer to that question was an overwhelming, "no, focus on other features."
Yes, that's the bad part about this. An extra team would be great for this, but that's just impossible.

The carriers are uber, i rather build 2 or 3 carriers instead of 1 capital-ship. I have to agree with the entire carrier, strike-craft and flak problem and i hope they can balance it somehow soon.
The thing thats annoying me at the moment is that all the missions are against my 2 allies, and each ally wants me to trash the other one.
That happened in every game i played so far, and it's getting on my nervs. The AI behaviour, the diplomacy, the missions, all this needs some more development. Some espionage would be awesome too. Heck i can't even offer missions, i was quite surprised about this. The AI in general acts very dumb as well, ev
Well, interesting, so this is a very old thread. How about a new poll ? i'm sure the yes/no ratio will change drastically today. It would, but not in the way you'd want. Yes probably wouldn't get more than 10%. The people still playing are the ones happy with the single player game.
Well i don't really need multiplayer, but wouldn't mind it. But it would be interesting to see the current interest of the players regarding the multiplayer feature. I actually believe t

So i tested arround a little bit more with the info boxes and text messages. It seems to drop the FPS only if: - there is a special ressource or artifact on the planet (all other planets and asteroids without an special ressource/artifact don't cause an FPS drop with the info box). - there is/was a huge amount of ships in an enemy controlled planet/asteriod (info box) - if i offer any trait to an opponent or ally (actually just any text message)

This was actually the thread i was looking for, so i will just copy/paste it, sorry for double-reply then. But it fits in here well. I can confirm this perfomance issue. Windows Vista 32bit Athlon 5200+ 4 GB ram DDR2-800 Geforce 9800 GX2 SATA II Harddrive with 16mb Buffer Sins only starts to drop FPS on a huge map if some text shows up of the opponents or allys. Windows Vista 32bit Athlon 5200+ 4 GB ram DDR2-800 Geforce 9800 GX2 SATA II Harddrive with 16mb Buffer Sins only starts to drop FPS on a huge map if some text shows up of the opponents or allys. It also drops the FPS as soon the info box of any object pops up (planet or ships). Restarting didn't help. So the game would run awesome smooth on this machine, even on a huge map with multiple big fleets in one gravity well, but there seems to be a problem with the tex
