Quoting Tridus, reply 234 Quoting Sythion, reply 232 Again, sounds needlessly complex. It's not trivial to implement, and not particularly visible to the player. The gain of realism is not worth the costs IMO. Okay, so you'd solve the problem of units with skills that only work while they're in cities gaining XP and levels... how exactly? The solution actually isn't
Quoting kenata, reply 27 What I think would be interesting would be to make all three wonders require being built in the same level 5 city, and then adding some mechanic where after the first one is finished the city in question becomes visible to every other faction. Otherwise, a faction could simply rush through the civic tech tree, build all 3 buildings without anyone knowing where or how to stop you. As for the same city
It's pretty much how Heavenfall said, though I can list a couple exceptions. City-String Exception: In my experience, if you're playing a Kingdom, you only ever get one Caravan. Because of this, if you ever end up starting on a peninsula, or a canyon, or anything at all causes you to string out cities, it can be a good idea to caravan string from City 2 to 3, 3 to 4, etc etc. Conceivably, it's always better to send Caravans 2 through X to City 1, but the problem ar
Does the AI know what the player is doing? I don't know what they are doing when I play so is the AI cheating?
At present, I tend to doubt the AI even knows what its doing, much less the player. They may have sight of you and all sorts of omniscient information, but they can't do squat with it right now. They can't even do squat with the information on their own realms. Fortunately, that looks like it's changing
Well, this proves it. Ya'all are the masters of your game. I won, finally. My auto-save was in a pretty decent place. I only lost maybe 15 turns, not enough to really even phase me that far in. Took me another 500+ turns, but I did it. Didn't get the Conquest I was looking for, won on Culture after eliminating the Krynn and Drengin, but I'm glad it turned out that way, and in my eyes I still won my Conquest. See, I didn't wanna kill the Terrans,
@MK: I've actually thought about designing my own Colony and Constructor Ships, but could never be bothered. At least at my difficulty, it's not really an issue. Knew about the Enhancement projects too. Depending on my starting techs and galactic circumstances, Soil Enhancement is usually an early priority for me. I think Impulse and Warp Drive techs are also worth +1 movement to... Well, everything. I could be mistaken, might just
30+ Turns Later.... Wow... Like... Well... How... Wow........ So I've been basically running this game on auto-pilot more or less. Pretty much, I'm just reacting to whatever seems to happen in the galaxy. If I see missiles, I get missile defense. If I see Freighters, I get Trade. If I see resources, I get Constructors. If I see Influence eating my planets, I get Constructors. If I see I'm not number one in military, I
Okay, so starting a game... Used the handy CTRL-N function to get a slightly stronger start... Because my first two starts were so far separated from the rest of the galaxy, each time I got colony ships near a decent planet, it got sniped out from under me and I was left with just the two around my home star. Here's the basic rundown of my game at present: Habitable Planets, Number of Planets, Number of Stars: Common Star Clusters: Tight Anomalies a
Some additional easy recommendations: 1) If you really feel you need to rush-buy a colony ship (as it would take ages to complete), don't buy it straight away but when it's already half built. That makes a huge difference in price. Always explore the cheapest rush-buying option (cheapest as in lowest total cost) 2) Don't build starports on every planet. In line with the recommendations above, in a small/medium galaxy I start
This is great stuff ya'all. I'm liking what I'm hearing. Seems like ya'all have really played this a lot and figured out how to maneuver through tons of different situations using various means. I'll give some of these ideas a go later on and let you know how it goes.
Howdy ya'all. As you all can see my name, I won't bother with that bit... Anyway, I just bought GalCiv 2/DA recently. Like about a week ago. Here's a rundown of my basic situation. I've been playing on all the standard settings, I think... I did change a few, but I think I appropriately changed them back, using the video tutorials as a guide on what's standard. I've been playing on Beginner difficulty with Sub-Normal AI Intelligence... And I
You tend to have some really good ideas/thoughts on things. You think I have good ideas!? I haven't had a good idea since Beta... I know how to produce results... Out of other people...
@ Black-Knight: Okay... I get the crusade... I'm sure we all do at this point... Make Teleport Optional/Remove It... Yes, we know your stance on that. This isn't AoW bud. Hell, it's not even a whole game yet, just hold yer horses. PBEM: Great, hope it gets implemented so guys like you can actually use it. Really, no sarcasm there at all. Not even implying I don't want you on my MP Server. Seriously, TBS games take a lot of
Okay, guys... About the Production thing... I dunno if it's like this for Kingdoms... But any level 4+ Empire city can get the ability to produce units in one turn... Quick aside, if I seem condescending... Well, it's because I'm being just a little condescending, but only because I can't believe none of ya'all have figured this out. Back to the point; If it -is- like this for Kingdom's, then it would be Level 5 Cities only, as that's the level required f
See, I don't care about a graphics card... I've got a pretty damn good one. Not the best, not even top of the line or brand new, by any means... But by any means, it's still pretty damn good. That's why I'm not going to submit a spell... Unless... Dear Derek, If I win... Can I get a copy of the Heirgamenon and a copy of Destiny's Ember's for free instead?
Whoa whoa whoa, hold the phone... Essence is gone?! *Turns to his imaginary assistant.* GET ME THE VP! No, seriously though, I'm... Well, just a little shocked. Only because this change wasn't exactly made very clear... Whether that was the choice or not on your end, I don't know, don't really care, honestly... It's just a little surprising. In hindsight, it does make sense though... Perfect, logical, rational sense, and I really

This makes me wonder how people can find you distasteful... Every single fucking thing I've seen written by you has been a stitch. And this... THIS was just plain epic-ly hilarious. Point aside, I loved this story. Point taken, I love the point you're making, and I totally agree. Seriously though, you should formulate all of your gripes in this manner. Not implying that you have any real problem with this, just assuming like a moron that you do.&nbs
You said it'll be a week. If you're lucky, you'll get your comp on the same day that the 1.1 Beta is released. This is far more dependent on Stardock than your end... But like you said, the Elemental Deities are smiling on you... Consequently, we'd all be getting lucky too... ELEMENTAL DEITIES! CAN YOU HEAR ME?! KEEP SMILING ON GCFL! BLESS HIM! That is all.
SavyG has a point about Nintendo though... Sure, the gameplay concepts in their newer franchise titles are generally new and 'fresh,' but Nintendo's also marketing to easily the most idiotic market on the planet... Kids. Kids don't see the Gameplay, the Gameworld, or the Strategy of a game... They see Mario, Kirby, Sonic, what-have-you, and piss and moan until their parents buy them the game with their favorite character in it. This is obviously not their fau
@Lord Xia: lol. Here comes Xiahou Dun, making the Internet a safer place, one sexual deviant at a time. Now if only you could do something about that pedobear character... @Derek: Read some more posts on the forums earlier... Sounds to me like you've already got things well in hand with Elementals forward progress. Can't wait to see what else you (apparently,) are going to bring to the table. *The Unibomber takes off his sunglasses and draws
Well, sounds to me like you guys have been doin' some serious thinking about the direction of the game since release and are figuring out how to get to the destination at last. I gotta say, as sad as I am to hear that our precious Beta's getting delayed, it's mitigated by the feeling that you're doing it right. Keep fighting the good fight guys.
