Symantec products haven't been good since Norton 2002. My $.02 is that Microsoft is doing a good job with their new stuff (Windows Defender, OneCare is very good) while on the other end of the spectrum, IE7 is a worthy browser and has come a LONG way since IE6. Yes, AeroShell works. It uses Samurize. The author (who is a good friend of mine) tried it first using DesktopX and had problems with transparency or something. Don't remember exactly what the problem was beyond that.

I have your solution for your desktop icons. Go to Aston Setup, the Desktop option, and click on "Get Explorer Icons". Voila! You have your icons back. I first tried Aston and Talisman about three or four years ago. Aston struck me as being more stable, while Talisman seemed to be good at crashing out. Since then both programs have added features. The difference is that Aston is STABLE. Rock-solid stable. Aston has an easy learning curve, and has the benefit of having MANY plugins, which likewise are stable. AveDesk is one of the coolest programs I've ever had the pleasure of using. And it owes it's existance to DesktopX and ObjectDock, with both programs being the inspiration for it. AveDesk is tops in my book and has the benefit of a LOT of people supporting it's development. Like IconX on steroids (which, of course, IS cool), but does what OD and DX does too. I'd like to see DesktopX become a shell replacement. Only thing stopping it from being a full-fledged one NOW is the taskbar and systray hooks don't work when explorer isn't running. I'm sure that both of those issues could be fixed easily, if Stardock decided it was worth doing.

Not a very wise thing to say to someone who gave APPLE the idea for Aqua in the FIRST place. After all, Stardock was making ALL of this stuff in the early and mid 90's on OS/2. Well, most of it. I'm not saying that DX or anything is BAD --- just that it's too hard for most people to figure out right off the bat like most other PC Software. I can't make a WindowBlinds skin to save my own life (to give an example) because SkinStudio is too cumbersome for me to make much of anything work properly. We need a set of clear-cut standards. Not necessarily dumb things down, but do more with less. And easier.
