Very interesting. I've known for a while now that it mainly depends on your video card. The standard is a 32 Meg 4x AGP. If you are running less than that (like a stock Intel chipset), then OBVIOUSLY your system won't like it. Stock video chipsets are stupid. Meant for nothing more than a 'net box or an office computer, or some computer for your kid. Not for the minimal power user, which is essentially the type of sys you need for stuff like this.

I'm with Frogboy on this one. Make a 3.6 version for 9x/ME with the config menu from 4.1 (minus some items of course), MAYBE find a way to get the 4.x skins to display properly in 3.6, and then call it the final one for 9x-based systems. Then the fellas can get busy on WB 4.2.... EVERYONE should have at least upgraded to Win2k by NOW...If you haven't...I feel for you when Microsoft stops supporting your OS in a year and you dont want to upgrade. Windows 98 original ALREADY pushes up da

..and that would require a serious hack of a few resident (and necessary) .dll's to increase the 128k GDI limitation...if it even turned out to be possible to make it go higher. From my point of view (and I hate to say this, but it's true), I think that you guys have hit a brick wall on the 9x systems, Frog. I'm thinking that perhaps 98/ME systems are simply not capable enough to warrant much more than an update to WB 3.5. <img src="http://images.stardock.com/images/smiles/notsure.gif"

Still awaiting the multiple dock feature..but this build looks like one or two builds away from it...animation and effects are MUCH improved on my system, and it fades text now...still get that curious rough-font thing on the first dock object (my computer), like it's not antialiasing the edges...the memory useage is MUCH improved also. A good step. Keep em coming boys. Nice Job.

hmmm..... Maybe its time to start working on the Macintosh ODNT stuff Frog... I'd be using a Mac already, if not for the limited customization. ODNT is the ONLY thing stopping me from going out and buying an Ultimate G4. Well, that and the love that I have for AMD stuff. Mac can run Linux stuff too... I might just get one anyway. <img src="http://images.stardock.com

Works great on mine -- GeForce4 MX 440 with the latest drivers and DirectX 9. Do notice some pixel garbage on the last couple pixel rows of any given window when using transitions. Probably just the card because WinFX is ATI optimized. Good stuff tho. Thanks guys.

Well I did the test. I set the entire Matrix Reloaded site as an Active Desktop item, expaned it to cover my etire desktop, navigated to some of the more resource-juicy areas (like the quicktime VR tours), and then fired up the following programs: Desktop X Object Dock (with about 33 different icons at 24 pix size and the magnification set to 64) Fruity Loops 3.5 (and I turned on the demo song and let it play) SmartBar XP with the resource pane turned on AND Paint Sh

The only really big-time hang up I see with this so far is just needing enough Video Memory to handle the output, having enough RAM to facilitate, and having a processor capable enough. I run WinXP, a GeForce 4 MX series, 512 Meg DDR, and an AthlonXP 1800. That should be enough to make this run decent AND keep the system from running in a lag. I can get my GF4 to crank out 120 frames a second on games like Mechwarrior 4 (albeit I've tweaked my system and my stuff is a bit overclocked), so there

well, If you take a look at the whole interface and navigation system on the Terminator 3 official site,I'm talking about all the stuff going on --- from the transitions and effects when an item is clicked on up to the whole structure of the interface and all the automated animation and fx. While I'm sure that it would take a hell of a LOT of work to get a windows GUI to do everything that's going on in that example, I still think that it's possible to do it somehow on more than an active deskto

After visiting some of the new movie sites such as the X-Men 2 and Terminator 3 sites, and seeing how both have a VERY high-powered Flash-based interface going on, the inevitible question springs to mind: Does ANYONE know of any project going on ANYWHERE to create a Flash-Based Shell Replacement for the ENTIRE Windows or OSX (or better yet, Linux ) Interface? If not, I think as a member of

Good Deal. I've been a registered user of Aston since December. It's really a pity more people don't use it..as far as stability goes, it's always been top-notch compared to Talisman and HoverDesk. It's compatible with WinStep and all Object Desktop products, and gives you a LOT of customization options. It's a good shell to use, and MUCH more customizeable than Explorer. Aston and WindowBlinds make the perfect pair, everyone. You really should give it a try. <img src="http://images.stardock.co

KenLin, it didnt work. No problem. Frog and the guys probably have the multiple dock feature in the works, once they get the program running with as little resource draw as possible. I can wait for it.

Good work fellas. I eagerly anticipate the arrival of an ObjectDock that can wrap around corners, have multiple dock bars, and which can support the same animation tricks that CursorXP can. I imagine you guys are hard at work on that too.

As far as the version for 9x/ME/2k, I see what they have to try to accomplish. I'll break it down as I understand it. Lets say you build a program. You make the program the very BEST that you are able to make it. But in doing so, you end up making that program incompatible with the older operating systems. So, you need to make a version FROM SCRATCH that will run on these older OS's, but that will in the end do the same thing just VERY differently than the original. Realise als

Thank you very much, Frog. It's guys like you, Stardock, WinCustomize, and all the other sites and talented skinfolk who have made computing more fun than the days of OS/2 and Windows 95. Thanks a zillion.
