Your thoughts on Marijuana

Your thoughts on Marijuana

Hey,

I have tried having this conversion on other forums but it always gets out of hand with people flaming eachother. I just want to have a conversation about the subject and hear peoples thoughts on it and maybe clear some rumors about it up. There are many people who think it's bad and that it's very bad for your lungs. Me being from Canada I smoke it regularly so I don't have a problem with it. The only factor I can see is that it is bad for the lungs as is any smoke to inhale. I was thinking for medical reasons, if they extracted the THC from inside the plant and simply put it in canisters and distrubute it to patients much like anesthesia. That way there is no lung damage from inhaling the smoke and the patients can be given certian dosages to scale rather than having to smoke up.

Say what you have to say. All opinions welcome.

Maturity does not come with age, unfortunately...

I am all for legalizing these drugs but then don't come dipping into my tax dollars when you are in need of rehab or you are so fuked up physically that you need someone to nurse you.

I think all smokers, alcoholics, and drug addicts (other than those that get it from childhood, being born from a drugger mom) should not be provided with any kind of insurance benefits that "normal" people use so that the others are not forced to pay for the weakness of the addicts. The state can tax the drugs and use that tax money to run rehab programs but not a penny more than that. Call me a ruthless guy but I believe in Darwinism. The weak should be eliminated...

In for a penny - Webgizmo's logic as it was presented was fatally flawed.

The I know a man argument...... - well in the UK today a woman was in the paper who died aged 105 after a lifetime smoking without ill effect. By his logic we could all go out and smoke without worrying.

Well thats just silly. I was simply pointing out how ridiculous the comment that..."chronic users are very unreliable usually reckless by nature, and cause a social/economic burden to modernized industrial societies"...was. It wasn't an argument nor was I giving anyone any justification to take any action effecting their life...just an observation. And you certainly don't need to smoke pot to be a burden on society.

Just because I choose to do something does not mean you should go out and do it as well...and since everything effects everyone differently I'm not going to deny myself certain experiences in life simply because you decided it was bad...for you. I may find quite the opposite.

We are told how great his friend does with drugs - of course we will never know how much more he may have done without them.

I think he's pretty happy doing what he does...he followed and realized his dreams. How many people really get to do that?

To argue that poor Government choices on the international stage justifies an individuals right to choose which laws he will and will not obey is a tad spurious also.

Poor government choices? I think it's way more than that...giving weapons to terrorists isn't a poor choice...it's insane!

Just because a law is made it doesn't make it right, and that does not mean everyone should go out and start breaking every law on the books. But it's your responsibility as a citizen/human being to challenge any law that is unjust. Especially if it effects your life directly. So I suppose if you can get a drug from another country that can save your life, which is deemd illegal to do, you will choose to follow that law and possibly die because someone made that a law? Not me! I think for myself. I'm responsible for my life...not the government. I choose to challenge authority.

"It is NOT the function of our government to keep the citizen from falling into error; It IS the function of the citizen to keep the governemt from falling into error. (U.S. Supreme Court in American Communications Association v. Douds, 389 U.S. 382, 442)

(Sorry Webgizmo, nothing personal - that darn frog of yours made a couple of leaps too many)

Not a problem. I don't expect everyone to understand.

My last comment on the subject...drink or smoke responsibly. But whatever you choose to do, don't do it just because someone said it was alright. It may not be right for you.

I DO NOT encourage anyone to do any form of drugs but if you do----know YOUR limitations!

sorry wasnt shouting maybe i'm abby normal but it has never affected me the way some of your responses have described i drive while high on weed and it dont impare my judgement any i've even taken a state administered driving test and passed with a road test so dont give me that crap about comparing weed to drinking and i used to drink and drive but after 2 d.u.i's and a couple of bad single car accidents i realized the dangers of it but weed has never made me wreck a vehicle nor run over and kill somebody

Steve, actually no. My knowledge of the law is quite correct. The law says "Driving while impaired" and what applies to alcohol also applies to drugs, including marijuana.
What happened to your friend is that previously, one had to VOLUNTEER to test for drugs, while now since November 1 2004, the policer officer will REQUIRE the suspect to be subject to the drug test.
The law against impaired driving was always there, except that before the police couldn't force you to take the test to prove that you are on drugs. Now they can.

I've smoked pot for years o an occassional basis. If it were legalised but under restriction like alcohol or tobacco I think it would improve things. If it were controlled in this way, it could be quality controlled and minors would find it much harder to get hold of it (I believe that the fall in illegal dealing would be proportional to the drop-off in illegal alcohol peddling seen in the USA after Prohibition was withdrawn). The controls in Holland, which I have visited a few times now, are a perfect model. Coffee shops are incredibly stringent and ID anyone who looks under 25 as a matter of course, even though the law only forbids sale or use by under 18s. Furthermore there are reasonable restrictions on how much you can buy.

Steve, here is my problem. Hippy has come to terms with his past. Webgizmos has lived fifty years and has a philosophy of his own. Many of us, like HGE and myself and many others on this thread, have smoked pot. I have also dropped acid, smoked crack, taken speed, downers, ludes, rush... cigarettes, alcohol. Now my love is coffee, an admitted addiction, also.

But you seem to believe that all of these "statistics" by non users are all false, and that the experiences of those who smokedd and quit for good reason, are all wrong. What gives you such incredible insight that nobody else has? Why is your "human" body so superior to the bodies of us mere mortals? You created a great windowblind, but cannot learn from the experience of others?

One difference between humans and animals is our ability to record history and learn from our mistakes. But I'll be damned if humans choose to learn from other's mistakes. We all choose to make the same mistakes and then learn. Are you smart enough to listen to people more than twice your age? Are you willing to listen to those who have lost loved ones? Are you willing to listen to people in the medical community? Or are you smarter than all of them?

I have one more thing to say, and then (hopefully) I will leave this thread to those that have more insight than I do. I would like any of you to prove that standing in the middle of a freeway is bad for me. I have done it often, and have never been hit. I have a couple of friends that do it on weekends (and they are successful engineers and doctors). I even know a man who stood on I-55 here in Illinois every day during rush hour and he lived to be over 90. My mother told me not to play in the street, but I think she had some personal agenda. My Dad told me I was being an idiot, but he couldn't see how standing there on that yellow line made me feel so alive. Some people told me to try a brain on for size, but they had never tried it, themselves. What do they know? I had a O.R. nurse try too convince me by showing me pics of people that had been hit by cars, but I'm not that dumb to get hit.
Really. I want someone to prove to me that standing in the middle of a freeway is bad for me.

I'm done! Again!!

Just made some whole wheat pasta with olive oil, 4 cloves of garlic, 1/2 sweet onion, a bit of salt and a boat load of parmesian cheese. Anyone hungry? I'm high on that aroma, right now.

Different folks may have different experiences with marijuana, just like with other drugs. It actually has stimulant, depressive, and hallucinogenic properties. As in most conversations with those who use the drug, I find that they mostly focus on how they are not impaired. Might be true for them, however, research and common sense dictate impairment. That's why it is considered a "mood and mind altering chemical". Addiction is possible, and probable, in long term chronic use. The easiest type of addiction to identify here is psychological addiction, however, physical addiction is also something to look for. Physical addiction is usually not noticeable due to the "apparent" lack of withdrawal symptoms. I say apparent because the THC stores in the fatty tissue of the body and leaves so slowly that it provides a cushion against withdrawal symptoms.

first- making comparisons to others chemicals is an ignorant approach. Lets take Maijuana on it own. Thousands are killed by "toked" drivers every year. Is this okay?

second: abilities. long term use of any drug will have permanent effects on a person - so much for winning skinning contests.

third: consequences. If you kill someone close to me while driving "toked" do I then have the right to fry your balls while you watch?

I'll bet Steve doesn't even smoke. Just wanted a thread with 120 responses. Smart thinking, Steve.

I SEE THAT THERE ARE MANY DIFFERENT OPINIONS ON MARAJUANA. IT'S INTERESTING TO READ ABOUT THE OPINIONS OF OTHER INDIVIDUALS. I WOULD HAVE TO SAY THAT ABOUT HALF OF WHAT I'VE READ HERE IS NONESENSE. I PERSONALLY HAVE BEEN SMOKING FOR ABOUT 11 YEARS NOW AND DON'T PLAN ON STOPPING ANY TIME SOON, BUT MY HABIT HAS GONE FROM DAILY TO ABOUT TWICE A WEEK. IN THAT TIME I HAVE DEALT WITH ALL THE INS AND OUTS OF MARY JANE, SOME GOOD SOME BAD. THERE'S NO DOUBT IN MY MIND THAT IT HAS A NEGATIVE AFFECT ON PERSONAL HEALTH. THE OBVIOUS AFFECTS ARE MOSTLY RESPATORY, SHORT TERM MEMORY, AND OF COURSE THE MUNCHIES. I WORK OUT EVERY DAY, AND DO A LOT OF CARDIOVASCULAR TRAINING, AND I MUST SAY THAT IT TAKES TWICE AS MUCH EFFORT TO RUN A COUPLE MILES AS IT USED TOO. I REALIZE THAT IS PARTICALLY DO TO AGE BUT I KNOW THAT MOST OF IT'S FROM TOKIN. AS FAR AS THE MEMORY ISSUE GOES, WELL THATS ABOUT AS FAR AS IT GOES. I'VE BEEN RACING MOTOCROSS SINCE I WAS EIGHT YEARS OLD, AND TOMMOROW I WILL RIDE A LITTLE BIT BETTER THAN I DID TODAY. THAT'S HOW IT'S GONE SINCE I WAS EIGHT. AND YES, MOST OF MY SEATTIME I'VE BEEN STONED, I ONLY RIDE BETTER. CALL ME STUPID OR CRAZY BUT IT PUTS ME RIGHT WHERE I NEED TO BE. THE ONLY BAD THING ABOUT THAT IS MY LACK OF STORAGE SPACE FOR TROPHYS. I FEEL THE SAME WAY ABOUT DRIVING A CAR, DRINKING AND DRIVING, AND SMOKING AND DRIVING HAVE ABSOULTELY NOTHING IN COMMON. THE BIGGEST ISSUE WITH MARAJUANA IS THAT IT IS DEFINATLY A GATE WAY DRUG. YOU CAN SAY ITS NOT SO, BUT I'VE WITNESSED MANY OF MY PEERS GO THROUGH THAT INTREGING GATE, AND THATS THE LAST TIME I SAW THEM. I ALSO STEPPED IN, BUT I WAS FORTUNATE TO HAVE A FAMILY MEMBER THAT RECOGNIZED MY BEHAVIOR, I'LL JUST SAY THE GATE DIDN'T HIT ME IN THE ASS ON THE WAY OUT. BUT I'VE GOTTEN A GLIMPSE OF WHATS ON THE OTHER SIDE, AND IT WAS ENOUGH TO STAY WITH ME FOREVER. MARAJUANA IS VITAMIN C COMPARED TO OTHER STREET DRUGS. SO ALL IN ALL I WOULDN'T RECOMMEND MARAJUANA TO ANY ONE, AND IF YOU ALREADY SMOKE JUST LEAVE IT AT THAT. AND IF YOU ALREADY SMOKE AND HAVEN'T JUST LEFT IT AT THAT THEN I WISH YOU THE BEST OF LUCK.

in uk its semi legal.. as long as you dont blow it in a policemans face you are not likly to be arrested.

i personally think its great, to me its a benign substance that i can use to relax without causing any problems. i been smoking it for about 20 years and its been fun. the only really bad thing about it is that it may make a non smoker into a smoker.. this was the case for me. so it can lead on to stronger things.... cigs!

The drug companies do produce a product that can be used by patients which is extracted THC and it is caled Marinol, not sure of the spelling. Most patients find that the dose is far too high and it is much easier to regulate their doage intake by taking one more toke if needed. I have heard that most people get uncomfortably stoned and it can last from 12 to 18 hours so they prefer to smoke the drug.

Sleeping Dragon, I never said i was right and everyone else is wrong. I was simply telling my story and my philosophy on life. "Are you smart enough to listen to people more than twice your age?" What a stupid thing to say. Age doesn't make a difference there have been many people older than me that were dead wrong. Look at Hitler, was he right? Should I have changed my views and listened to his, simply because of his age?

jaidaksghost try to post something useful, thousands of people die from stoned drivers every year? Show me the facts, until then thats useless, because I have heard and read the complete opposite. As for speaking about me personally leave that out stuff like that is what gets posts deleted.
