Hi Neil,

What's the name of the service? Even once Start11 is manually started I don't see anything running resembling Start(XX...) in Services.

How do I 'install' the service manually if it comes to that?

TIA

Chris.

If you run Services.msc you should see Stardock Start11 listed.  This should be set to automatic and should be running.

If it is missing I recommend uninstalling Start11, rebooting and reinstalling.

Should it still be missing it is possible some helpful AV app is blocking the install from working correctly.

Quoting sdRohan,

Quoting mfarmilo1,

I've had the closing immediately issue. I believe it might be linked to my having the Taskbar set to autohide, as the problem only seems to happen the first time I click the Start button. If I click again it works. Also, tapping the Windows key on the keyboard works every time.

That test build mentioned there appears to be Start10, not Start11. Why are you pointing me to it, as we're talking about Start11 here?

This issue will be addressed in the next Start11 update too.  It is an issue introduced by a recent MS update to Windows 10.

As it impacts both Start10 and 11 I think there was some confusion.

Is there something we can do to help with the few people, who have reported Start11 not making not any changes at all, even thou' it's running -- like me, for example?

Settings, configuration inside Registry, missing files, event monitor, debug logs ... ?

The initial first step would be to uninstall, reboot and reinstall to rule out installation issues.

If thats not working then the next thing will be to open the config app and see if that prompts for activation.

Stardock personnel suggested me to reinstall earlier and I did just that, please see my earlier post with images and description in this thread. I tried starting up as a trial after re-installing, to see if it would correct the situation, but no. I just checked the config app and it's still happily running the 30-day trial, no request for activation.

If I uninstall a universal app, the entry remains in the Start11 Universal Applications menu.

Edit: OK, it's gone now.
I guess it takes a while for it to go.

Hi there,

Windows 11 Version 21H2 (Build 22000.160).

I have two issues:

  1. When I tried using the centred taskbar setting, the Windows start menu pops up and not Start11 despite it being enabled.
  2. When using any alignment setting (both left and centre), there is a green area on my second monitor (see image)

Does anyone have any suggestions on to what I can try to fix these issues?

Edit:

When using the centre aligned setting, clicking on this green spot on my second monitor actually brings up the Start11 menu in the right place, but on my second monitor:

Hello,

Start 11 would have to be bought separate and you need to save

your installer for future installs also.

I was happy with Start 10. Will there be a version able to run on Windows 11?

No.

Start10 will not support Windows 11 as the OS changes stopped it working correctly.

Start11 is supported on Windows 10 and 11 and offers everything Start10 offers on Windows 10 plus new features and Windows 11 support as well (some features in Windows 11 may not be available due to OS changes)

Hi Neil, your recommendation worked thanks (should've tried that first I guess). I also ran the Purge_StartAll.bat file after uninstalling so maybe that helped.

Cheers,

Chris.

My user name is typed in Arabic but, it is typed with mirrored characters + I have a small suggestion, make power menu looks like Windows 11 style when I use this start menu, it would be better.

Hi I purchased Start11 yesterday and finally got it (sort of) working.

However, it delivers a menu that is not like Windows 10 -at least I can't expand it out over the desktop and (re)create groups of apps like I had in Windows10.  Secondly,  The start button stopped working. When I enable Start11 in control -"clicking start button opens Start menu,"  nothing happens. I CAN enable the menu by pressing the keyboard Windows key (enabled in control).   Earlier, I had fights with the software -pressing the start/windows key or clicking the start button would display the Start11 menu for one iteration -then the native Win11 menu would reappear on the next click. I reinstalled (2x!) and it did not seem to change. A third reinstall and slow process of -enable/disable/reenable every feature brought me to the point where I have the keyboard Start11 option working, but not the start button/screen button.  Right clicking the start button brings up the "apps and features (+)" menu.

Finally, the  Start11 menu looks pretty much identical regardless of choosing Windows 7 Style or Modern Style. [And] both options deliver menus that won't let me group icons over a broad start panel like Windows 10 offered in both tablet or desktop mode.

a) Can I get Start11 to display a broad windows 10-like panel that allows me to group 3-6 app icons together as a separate bunch?

b) Is this no-start button click thing unique to me or a known issue (during the first two installs the start button was always responsive!).

Thanks for any help with this!

Mark

Here is my Start11 menu (keyboard press called) regardless of choice (win7/modern)

Here is my control options showing click the start button calls Start11

Thank you!

Hello Mark,

Is this your first time using Start11/Start10? If you have Start10 before on this system, have you uninstall it before installing Start11? And are you on Windows 10 or Windows 11?

Thank you,

Hi Basj!

Thank you for the reply! :-)

I apologize for the data gap :-(

A. I have the following Stardock apps still installed:

1. Deskscapes

2. Fences 3

3. Groupy

4. Object desktop

5. I had Start 10 installed as well, but Start 10 was uninstalled either automatically or by me after a prompt to do so, when I first installed Start 11.

B. My Computer & OS configuration are as follows:

1. I have a desktop machine just over a year old.

- HP Pavilion Desktop - TP01-1127c // Memory Size 32768 MB RAM

- BIOS Date  03/19/2021 // BIOS Revision F.31

- Processor (1):  Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-10400F CPU @ 2.90GHz  //Current Processor Speed 2871 MHz

- Memory  2x DIMM2 (32gb total)  // Manufacturer Crucial, Serial Number E43FABAA, each DIMM = 16384 MB , 2667 MHz, DDR4 // Synchronous array

2. My MS Windows version is a preview version of Windows 11

- Microsoft Windows [Version 10.0.22000.160]

- Install build: 22000.160 co_release

- I am in the Windows Insider Program Beta Track, and this is latest beta track version --perhaps several days old.

Comment: After the initial install, when I enabled Start 11, and clicked the start menu, I could see the pause -literally for seconds before showing the native Win11 for most cases (finally got it to show Start 11 but only ephemerally, one view and then reverted! (This computer rarely has to pause in any normal activities like opening windows, pressing start, opening explorer or apps; so watching this pause was disconcerting.)

Then did the re-installs and tweaking each and every function of Start11.

I must note that prior to finding & installing Start11, I  had tried the Regedit hack of adding a DWord (32-bit value) called: ShowClassicMode (Value Data =1)  to the  HKEY-LOCAL_MACHINE\SSOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\WINDOWS\Current\Version\Explorer\Advanced Part of Window 11 Registry.

That did not work, so I repeated the process and added the DWord value as a 64-bit entry (I am running 64bit Windows), but that did not work either.  I subsequently read somewhere that this change was nullified in the latest version of Win11 -the 160 co_release.  I deleted these entries from the Registry and rebooted prior to the install of Start11.

OK, I appreciate any insights you might offer and thank you for your help in advance!

;-)

Mark

P.S. I don't think my AV program is interfering -it is McAfee All Access and it did not interfere with Start10, plus I did not get a warning about it.  I may disable and retry running the Start11 with the start button (I can get windows key to trigger Start11 now).   Thanks in advance!

Hello Mark,

I saw some report from others that Start10 was not properly remove from system before installing Start11. So what I will suggest is

  1. Uninstall Start11.
  2. Do the purge steps as mentioned here: https://forums.stardock.com/486022/start10-support-faq#reinstalling. Just make sure to re-download the latest version of Star11 from your account. Reboot after the purged. Reinstall, and Reboot again after the installation. Retest it. Report back here.

Thank you,

I installed Start11 and found that it disabled the the snap layout function.  With Start11 loaded the maximize/restore no longer gives you the snap layout function.  The minute I uninstalled Start11, the function returned.

That is not normal.  Start11 should have absolutely no impact on that feature of Windows 11 and it doesn't seem to be having that impact here.

Is it possible the feature started working again because you had to reboot after uninstalling Start11?

The function returned after roughly 15 seconds after uninstalling Start11 but before I had a chance to rebboot.

I have an intermittent issue where a separator is missing between This PC and Control Panel. See screenshots. I'm running W11 beta, 22000.160. Sometimes it shows, sometimes it doesn't.

What scaling factor are you using?

In Start11 scaling is set to default, 100%. Windows is running at 1600 x 900 on this laptop, also at default 100% scaling.
