Win 11, Ver=21H2, Build=22000.132 / Start11, Ver=0.5

Sometimes (not always) when I click on the Start icon (bottom right) the cursor starts wandering - as if there is remote support also moving the cursor.  Only started after Start 11 installed, but it may be a Win 11 problem.

Mouse = Logiteck M510 with Unifying Receiver.

Thanks, John

Wandering where exactly?

and this constant or only each time you click or ?

Did anyone see my bug report last week? I have my Taskbar set to autohide, and when I click on the Start Button (after the Taskbar appears of course) the Start11 menu appears and then immediately disappears again, so I have to click the button a second time for the menu to stay open. I think this is linked to the Taskbar being autohidden, because if I let the menu close but keep the Taskbar open, clicking Start again works fine. The problem seems to be linked to the first click of the Start button after the Taskbar opens (after being hidden). Tapping the keyboard Windows key opens the Start11 menu fine (ie I don't have to tap it again to get the menu to stay open).

I've not been able to find where you can change the start button!  I have a nice collection, and would love to change it again.

1) It only starts happening when I click on the Start button in the lower left (shell icon)

2) It is NOT consistant. Shome times I don't get the wandering cursor, sometimes I do.  If I can get the cursor to click on anlther open window (or start task manager) it goes away  (I think???).

When I click the start button, the start menu does not pop up correctly and nothing happened.

The only way to open the start11 menu is by clicking Windows key.

Ctrl + Click can open start menu.

Did you see my posts about my issue with Start11 opening then immediately closing? I've posted twice on here now about it. It seems to have something to do with having Taskbar autohide turned on. If I click the Start button a second time it opens correctly, it seems to only show the problem when I first click the Start button after the Taskbar appears.

We will be investigating that later this week.

Win 10 Version 21H1 Build 19043.1165

My issue is that Start11 won't load when the desktop comes up - I have to start it manually. Should there be a link/shortcut in the 'Startup' menu or (where)?

While attempting to troubleshoot this I came across a similar forum thread for Start10 which mentioned trying Start10tweak.exe in the program folder. When I look in the Start11 program folder I found many 'Start10'-named files (including Start10Tweak.exe).

Directory of c:\Program Files (x86)\Stardock\Start11

06-Aug-21  05:58           337,872 Start10.exe

06-Aug-21  05:58           159,240 Start10Shell32.dll

06-Aug-21  05:58           182,448 Start10Shell64.dll

06-Aug-21  05:58         2,024,736 Start10ThemeEdit.exe

06-Aug-21  05:58         2,473,632 Start10tweak.exe

06-Aug-21  05:57         1,443,440 Start10_32.dll

06-Aug-21  05:57         1,753,728 start10_64.dll

Should these be there or are they somehow leftover from my previous Start10 installation?

Cheers,

Chris

Windows v 21H1 Build 19043.1165

Start11 0.5

After uninstalling Start10 and installing Start11, then rebooting, one of the program shortcuts pinned to the Start11 menu, for Microsoft Sticky Notes, returned an error when I clicked on it. I can't remember exactly what it said, I think it was "the program the shortcut points to no longer exists, do you want to delete the shortcut?".

I deleted it, searched for "sticky notes" using the Start11 search, then re-pinned it and now it works. However, the shortcut no longer appears in the spot it should, based on alphabetic order.

There was also a recent cumulative update to Windows, KB5005033, but I don't remember if it was before or after I upgraded Start10 to Start11, so it could be the culprit.

edit: Just had the same problem with a shortcut to Snip & Sketch, so it appears to be related to shortcuts for "Universal Applications".

I had the same problem, go into the Start11->configure->places list and re-select the items - they'll be recreated. To get there from the config dialog click "Start Menu" then "Change what the menu should show" then "Change right hand shortcuts"

For shortcuts pinned to the main start window you'll have to manually edit them to use the launce.exe in the start11 program folder (in my case they we still pointing to the launch.exe in Start10)

HTH

Chris.

Windows 10 - Version 21H1 (OS Build 19043.1165)

Half the time I try to open start11 it closes immediately and I have to click it again and its been making it really difficult to use :(
Its temperamental, it will be fine for a few trys then it starts happening again randomly.

To add, when I'm in a fullscreen app like a game, I can no longer keep the menu open when I alt+tab to my desktop. It keeps closing every time. (This issue is with bot start 10 and start 11, I bought 11 thinking the issue would be fixed) I've never had an issue with this software having used it for quite a few years too so im confused.

Those should be there.

For compatibility reasons the dlls and start10.exe will remain with same names and the theme editor and tweak tool are identical to Start10 ones so remain the same names.

Start11 should automatically start.

If it is not then check the Service is installed correctly as most likely it is disabled or missing.

I've had the closing immediately issue. I believe it might be linked to my having the Taskbar set to autohide, as the problem only seems to happen the first time I click the Start button. If I click again it works. Also, tapping the Windows key on the keyboard works every time.

I have been able to find some programs from my user's start menu folder though so they are not all missing.

This issue is looking really similar to one experienced by other users with Start10.  https://forums.stardock.com/504805/shortcut-search-broken

I tried Open Shell Menu and it is able to find the shortcuts that Start11 cannot.

What can I do to help you diagnose this issue with Start11 not being able to find all programs in its search?

Is there something we can do to help with the few people, who have reported Start11 not making not any changes at all, even thou' it's running -- like me, for example?

Settings, configuration inside Registry, missing files, event monitor, debug logs ... ?

Windows 10 - Version 21H1 (OS Build 19043.1165)

Migrated from start10 to start11, start11 was still using some of start10's old AppData.

Specifically, all the Universal Application shortcuts were still pointing to the path for Start10's Launch.exe, so none of these shortcuts would actually work.

Clearing the start10 AppData allowed Start11 to recreate these shortcuts.

Not when the taskbar is at the bottom of the screen?

Your OS version should have that.  It does not appear in the menu when at the top or left or right of the screen and it only appears on the primary monitor taskbar.

That test build mentioned there appears to be Start10, not Start11. Why are you pointing me to it, as we're talking about Start11 here?

Windows 11 Beta Insider 22000.132

Small icons in Start Menu have bug that some of the program icons are too small, for example: Messenger, Notepad and Feedback Hub. Bug doesn't exist if you set big icons.

Hi Neil,

What's the name of the service? Even once Start11 is manually started I don't see anything running resembling Start(XX...) in Services.

How do I 'install' the service manually if it comes to that?

TIA

Chris.
