Skype channel

It is time to start ramping things up.

Please add me on skype. I'm Draginol.  Make sure you let me know who you are and why you're contacting me. :)

Going to create a Star Control Founder group as we are quickly reaching the stage where this once of a month thing ain't gonna cut it.

Would Discord be useful? Its the 'hip' thing with the kids these day. I have no idea how it works though :P

If twitch hadn't made IRC known, I'd just reinstall mIRC and get a channel going that way haha :)

I've made a point out of ignoring cell phones and social media, I am technologically trapped in the early 1990s, haha.  So I don't actually know what you are talking about, other than being confused because I always thought Skype was like a telephone over the internet.

Please tell me you don't still use a flip phone or one of those big bulky walkie talkies...

Skype is voice chat and instant messaging... Kinda sucks for that, but it's what Microsoft went with...

Haha, I avoid cell phones like the plague.  I've only ever had a cell phone once, when I was the Terminal Manager of a major international customs freight terminal I had to have one.  That was a long time ago, it was a Motorola Razor.  The few years I ran Land-Air Denver was the only time I've ever even had a cell phone.  I've never liked the idea of people being able to call me no matter where I am or what I am doing, or in carrying a tracking device with me wherever I go.  It's not a paranoid thing, it just seems like an insane thing to do... everyone carries a tracking device with them at all times.  It's just a really dangerous concept in general.  So I've never liked the idea of cell phones, but from a philosophical civilization type of perspective and not any kind of paranoid fears.  It just seems like a really bad idea that will ultimately backfire on civilization in a really bad way.

But mostly it's because I rarely ever get a phone call from anyone, so it really isn't worth having for me.  If I were on the phone a lot I would have one, but I really don't use phones much.

Few people call me, but I'm on the phone all the time. I'm writing this on my phone right now...

Question: Are you on dial up internet?

Answer: yes, using the Kermit protocol & currently logging into a BBS hoping to set up a proxie connection or learn how to do this PPP stuff. any advice? if so, please page me. thanks.

Ahh BBS that's Old School, just make sure you dial into a server on a local exchange :)

For those wondering about Skype...

Microsoft purchased Skype since well basically it rendered 2 Microsoft platforms obsolete... Netmeeting & MSN Messenger were killed & rolled into Skype.

So unlike Teamspeak/Ventrilo it has easier user management of friends lists along with a more powerful instant messaging client & the added functionality of video calls.  -- Thankfully it also doesn't require you to configure the client to connect to a server manually as it handles it when you log in.

What part of PPP are you needing help on?  -- It's been awhile since I've worked on anything using dial-up but I may still have some of my notes laying around somewhere.

I wonder when Brad will start screen sharing with that Skype Founder's group......  O:)

Haha, I loved the era of dial-up local BBS on a 300, then 1200, then 14k in the final days modem.  I was the Wargames guy and knew all the local BBSs.  I bet few people know this... I live in Colorado, and that movie made us all try to find a computer for NORAD.  There is so much military in Colorado Springs that we were all finding military contractors and stuff looking for a Cheyenne Mountain number.  So they actually set up a NORAD BBS for us to find just to make us stop looking for it, haha!

I've been "online" since 1981, so I've always been at the cutting edge there.  I've used a cable modem for a long time now.

Here are some excerpts from Skype group chat that some losers here aren't willing to join:

[Wednesday, February 01, 2017 7:17 PM]

Brad Wardell: A couple people here are working on the physics system for Star Control.
We still don't like how ships feel in battle.

[10:00 AM]

Brad Wardell: The old Star Control controls aren't intuitive.

Ctrl, Alt, arrow keys

Right now, we haven't implemented any other control schemes.

Xbox controller will come.

^ Brad's online 24/7, but he normally talks couple of times a day. It's only been 2 days too. And, I think, he works... XD

Just so you know, you don't have to be online/logged into Skype to get the chat transcript. You just need to be part of the group.
