@cuorebrave:  It's perfectly coherent if you integrate the concept of sarcasm.  I'm not trying to insult anyone; if you don't like what I'm saying, it doesn't make my post "flaming".  I get why you're excited.  I got excited once over SC3 and got punished for it.  So, I'll wait and see, now.  But you?  You think it's worth it? If it ends up being another SC3 piece of scrap, are you going to be fine with this 99$ gamble?  If so, then I have nothing to say against what you're doing.  And I'm being straight, no sarcasm here.  Enjoy your excitement; I don't mean to spoil that and I don't see how my post should do that.  I never said anything along the lines of "people who pay 99$ are idiots".

On the other hand, I do mean to criticize the approach.  I get from user "sendinsignal" that the founder programs have always worked like that?  It's weird to me, but hey, if it works for other people, then go for it.  Still, you should be straight when you send your survey, Stardock; explain what you're doing.  Otherwise, for someone who doesn't know how your Founder Programs really work, it sure looks like a scam, and it's pretty insulting.  "We selected you to give us money!".  Wow, thanks. (sacrasm).

That's how I feel and any company worth 2 cents wants to know what potential customers want and think.  So, I don't see how my post is "pointless" as well.

Juffo-Wup fills in my fibers and I grow turgid.  NOW GO AND MAKE IT A GREAT GAME!

Get people excited, launch a survey to select the founders then tell them they've been selected!  OH JOY!

99$?  Sure, I'll pay 99$ for what *might* be another SC3-type flop.  I'll pay 99$ to see crash before others.  Or I'll pay 99$ to help steer it in the right direction; 99$ for the honor of working for you, sure.

You got a great read on the crowd, there.  So many people are excited about this, you get to really milk the *silly cows*.  99$, that's like 50$ (at most; when you look at the content of today's 50$ games, there'd better be a whole lot more material there was in SC2) +49$ in DLC's??  And absolute faith in Stardock.  I don't say you can't pull it off, but there's risk.  Just look at Creative Assembly and Rome 2.  Planned DLC's, always a big plus.

Early access is great, but usually, the "privilege" compensates for the risk.  Now it sounds like you evaluate there's no such risk.

Seriously, I'm disappointed, to say the least.  Maybe I would've bet some money on you, but this "YOU WON A CRUISE IN THE BAHAMAS!"-type approach + 99$ asking price?  It's a sad, sad joke.  You deserve all the *jumping in front* in the world.

This is an awful start, but I still wish you the best.

The game will probably cost $60 cost $40 on start. It will be highly moddable. Let's say we'll get 3 DLCs $10 each So far we know about 3 major expansions ($7 each?) plus a couple dozen DLCs ($1 each?). That's $90 $85. What's $10 $15 extra?... Even then. Refuse yourself going to a restaurant couple of times and you get your money for a spot in Star Control development history and the game itself (by naming a planet). Imagine showing it off to your friends (if you have any). If you can't afford $100 game than stick to humble bundles I guess...

I've been asking about a SCII-style "instruction"/lore book for a while. Also, good to "see" you again. I finished founder registration yesterday, not sure if I'm too far behind the power curve to get in. Have been slammed at work, haven't had time to log on for gaming. Good luck & have fun!

^ I would gladly pay more if Stardock would throw in a loot crate with posters, toys, a making-of book with concept art, production notes, etc.

Might be out of their area of expertise as this is something usually done only by bigger companies, but I would buy it without any reservations.

Same here, I would love to see more opportunities to support this (and some ways to show off my love of star control around the house. I would LOOOOVE a history of star control hardcover that delved into some of the old concept art and stuff, I wonder if they could work with the old creators on something like that.)

As for another SC3? Honestly, I'd take it. I know SC3 has a sour taste for many people but there were some gold moments in that game and I spent many hours enjoying it. Just because it wasn't near as good as the prior stuff, it wasn't absolute trash either, personally. With the modding tool opportunities, I hope to see the ability to play many complete adventures in this style.

But, you know, I'd throw money off a cliff if people told me it was how to get a new star control.

You quote Star Control like you're a true believer - but instead of being excited like the rest of us, you take the time to rain on our parade and come on here specifically to badmouth what we're all doing in some pseudo-sarcastic way. You want just like, free stuff? The game for free, the expansions, DLC for free? You want to name an actual planet in-game for free? That's what it would take to not be "insulting"? Some world you live in where that's normal!

Either way, we're just prolonging the inevitable. I need to go back to celebrating. @Hunam - wanna come?!?! It'll be more fun than sitting here arguing with the commoners!!

Super excited to work on this with you guys. For what its worth, I would probably have spent over $100 on a kickstarter without half of the perks we are getting here, this is an awesome project.

Hello all!

I too am looking forward to a new iteration of Star Control and want to openly thank the devs for allowing me the opportunity to do so. I think this is a great opportunity, even if it did cost $99. Personally I think that providing funds prior to acceptance is nothing more than a tool that allows the devs to ensure those participating are truly interested. In other words they have put their money where their mouth is....

Try not to judge to harshly those who think paying for the "privilege" is wrong. In some circles I walk it would be an insult. With this crowd (gamers) I would expect nothing else since organizations like Kickstarter and Indiegogo have proven the willingness for "users" to support the game creators in a significant way even if the game is nothing more than an idea in someone's head.

So congrats to all who have been selected and good luck to those who are still trying.

To go with others, anything we can do to decline the invite? The initial email given out made no mention of the price, and while I do think it's likely to be money well spent, it's not money that I have.

Though I will say, probably best to put that information in the initial email as well, just to save time on both sides.

Yea!!! Thanks for inviting me in to the founders program.  I haven't done anything like this in over 15 years, and never thought I would again.  I really am looking forward to helping out with one last game... especially this one.

You could just keep the email and save money until you have enough to participate.

Are the founders email link transferrable?   If the person doesn't want to pay the founder's price to get into the vault could he give it to his friend instead?

Don't feel bad.   I took the survey too and didn't get accepted.   Told a friend to do it and he got it.   Been checking my email every hour with no luck.  Depressed.  :(

Same here guys. I've been a fan of Star Control for a long time. Took the survey the other night...waiting for an e-mail the way kids wait for owls from Hogwarts.

^ Don't lose faith. Not everybody got it in the first batch of emails.

I think you guys made a mistake in the email.

Star Control prototype builds and tools [Winter 2016] - shouldn't it be Winter 2015?

Are they still accepting new applications? I sent one out earlier but it is not up to the quality that I would normally deem...acceptable (that and I did it on a machine that was not optimal for typing)

The survey is still open.

Quoting TheUr-quanMaster,

Mixed feelings about the founders program. I got in! But it costs 100$ to access anything! I would be willing to pay some money to get in true, but 100$? That is crazy! Why are you charging so much money?

Was it really necessary to post the same thing in three different threads?

Got one reply in the other 2, and like 6 helpfull comments here. So yes, it was worth posting to three threads.
