One or two culture structures at your front lines are usually all that's needed, maybe plus one on your HW initially.

Sometimes the AI isn't even smart enough to protect its planets with culture structures either, but if they're on the higher settings, they'll have already completely filled out their logistics capacity, and are too dumb to scuttle their other structures. So you might be overthrowing their planets every 10 or 20 minutes, and then they'll recolonize when one of their caps pushes your culture back for a bit, they'll fully upgrade the planet, they'll lose it to culture again... etc.

Funny, but quite aggravating when one of your allies happens to be an AI and is too stupid to protect its planets with culture.

LOL i beat an unfair ai vasari with an economy made up of culture temples boosting resource and tax revenue , crusaders, guardians, illums 1 capital ship (Mother Ship).

 single player is a joke

One way to increase the difficulty is to refuse to build any starbases, forcing you to rely on your fleet.

I just started the game, but I like to play the Advent.  Sorry to hear they are weaker now.

Thanks all for the great strategy suggestions.  I will try them all over time.

Especially: Kefra post #15.

True I suppose, completely relative to game speed of course but I find most people acting as the Eco booster on their team as TEC go for the early advantage of massed trade ports rather than using those slots on civ labs. Granted I play with a select group on private online games only but I find most people don't go past Civ Lab 6 unless the game goes past an hour or so. You have to really want Pervasive to grab those last 2 labs as there isn't much other reason to go for them and you kind of have to know that you will have the time to get your money out of it. Just my opinion.

In most balanced games online no serious feed will be given before 20-25 minute time mark. Early feed hurts the team since instead of building bigger economy you are giving cash away.

If you get pervasive before serious feeding therefore fleeting starts you catch a train that will fill your slots and do a lot of research basically for free.

The way I do it is to build some (cca 10-20) trade ports while researching all up to T3 mineral bonuses then build 3 more civ labs. after 4 th is build I start on the path of cargo hold expansion. When all 6 are build I go for development mandate. Once this is researched not all cargo holds are researched yet so I build some more trade and build 2 more labs. Once those are done perv is my goal.

If you are really low on minerals discounted prices for black market might be worth purchasing. In most cases time delay is too long though.
