Introduction

The Maelstrom Mod introduces four new races to the SoaSE Universe.

It keeps the original races, the TEC, Advent and Vasari who are still to be found building and battling as usual.

All of the new races are independent of the original races and have unique strengths and weaknesses.

where did you get the inspiration for the new races?

Drugs.

Windows 8

I'd say that's the source of many of your issues.  Even if it claims to support 8, I know many older game engines still aren't fully optimized on the 8 platform yet.  Rebuilding the kernel always has drawbacks like this.  Usually takes until the 2nd iteration of the software to work out all the major problems.

Norlamin race is from the series of books "Skylark ..." by Doc Smith

Replicator race is built and conceptualized around the replicate ability ... developed from there

TA originally BSG concepts and models

For some reason, the planet graphics seems to be glitched.

Problem here is the meshes for the original planets changed from one patch to another and it appears my file check software does not consistently check binary files (i.e mesh)

To fix ... go into the Maelstrom mods folders and the mesh folder in particular. Delete all planets meshes for Terran, Ice, Volcanic and Desert

Computer is Windows 8 64-bit, 8Gb, i7 processor (up to 3.2GHz) if that matters.

Have you tried running the .exe in compatibility mode? That I know solves issues for a lot of games.

The DLC worlds still allow for vanilla mine counts.

My game keeps crashing at about 1.7G of ram, everything else works fine though. I have windows 8, so I assume it's being its usual unhelpful self. I'd like to mention, it isn't popping up with the usual minidump error, it's just crashing to desktop with no errors.

I have ship detail on high, everything on low and most of the tick boxes off. I don't really care about graphics, but I like ship detail on high, cause they're very nice (props to who made them). ALSO, DAT PLASMA EFFECT that the replicators have, its just epic.

Can Replicators settle Greenhouse Planets? I can't find any research that mentions it, or I may simply be blind.

Also, does the Rebel Replicators titans ability called, nano disassemblers (I think, the one that heals the titan and does mild AoE damage)work as the tooltip says?. It turns off after about 2 seconds so doesnt really restore any hull points. Says duration of 20second

Couple of problems with the new planet research in R6 (DLC) ... so no you are not blind.

Quick question, they just released new content - Stellar Phenomena, will this mean that the new content will break compatibility if I get it?

Also, were black holes meant to destroy trade ships? They seem to be killing them right now.

As far as I am aware ... DLC's do not break the game if you do not have it/them.

Yes, no ... maybe

Maybe?

They seem to destroy strike craft, but also tradeships as well. At least the Replicator one gets destroyed.

Edit:

It looks like all of the races seem to have issues with black holes and trade ships (including base game).

The DLCs should not break the game if the modder is careful when updating the game (which I'm sure Maelstrom is). However the 1.8 patch that was released for Stellar Phenomena does break every single mod with new races, so I'm afraid that does mean you (and everyone else) won't be able to play this mod until Maelstrom releases an update. ;)

That's what black holes do ... and why they are relatively rare ...

Thanks for the clarification GoaFan77.

I assume when you referred to the "1.8 patch" you are referring to the v1.79 beta patch?

No, the beta is over, they released the official 1.8 patch and the new Stellar Phenomenon DLC today. Everyone is on 1.8 now.

Yep. New patch + new dlc.

Still, it's pretty good that Ironclad/Stardock are updating still. At least it means that there's ample development going on.

Eh.. far moreso Stardock than IC.  IC has been too busy making their upcoming failed endeavor (it will in a MOBA market flooded with LOL and DOTA) Sins of a Dark Age.  Rebellion has been primarily a Stardock Entertainment game then, and will be in the future.  I wish they'd just buy up the IP or studio.
