Question: Does Sword of the Stars play more like Sins or GalCiv or Civ?
Looked at some game footage. Dunno. Not bad looking, but it would take me a bit to bother investing in a new game. First, I hate steam. Second, I find Sins, SupCom, etc. very replayable. Third, unless it gave me something really dynamic (I enjoyed the way ships in the Homeworld series moved) I would probably pass on dishing the bucks.
First, here's the demo so you can see for your self. For me, never played a RTS till Sins came along. Sins spoiled me so when I'd played SOTS, was not used to turn based games other than RPG's from early Final Fantasy series. The tech tree is unique in that you won't developed the same tech in back to back games. Also, the game has tankers, so if you run out of fuel, your ships will limp through space for the next hundred years.
The best thing I liked about was the ship damage and customizations that was available to you. When you ship is heavily damaged, it shows, pieces dangling, scorched marks, very nice. Various choices for ship customizations for frigates, cruisers and capitals once you research the tech.
IMO, it's a good game but like I said, sins spoiled me and that's I fully could not get into it. Otherwise, when part 2 comes out, will check it out and see what the changed and may pick it up if it is like sins.....Bison...
