I just picked it up at GameStop and am installing now.  Why do all websites (including this one) say that it's not out until the 14th?  Will I be able to play this when it's done installing?

Wonder what the response will be from Stardock? Wonder if it's too late to cancel my preorder..no offense to good 'ol Stardock, but if I can start playing now and get to practicing..why wait for them to start slowly passing out keys Tuesday and then spend most of the day downloading?

Maybe they'll offer a bonus to make up for it. *Hopes in vain.* Well, it's too late to pick it up now but we'll see what they say by tomorrow.

If Gamestop is indeed selling it (as opposed to it being a fluke of a couple of stores) please bear in mind that buying from them prior to release is rewarding those stores for violating their agreement with us and we make far less revenue per copy when it's sold through Gamestop than when it's purchase direct.

It's your choice of course but I would urge you or anyone else who has pre-ordered from canceling it.

Frogboy, the phone number of my local gamestop is (703) 707-9053.  They have one copy left for sale today.

But why give the profit to Game Stop?

Buying from Stardock all the way.

Quoting Frogboy, reply 22We're investigating. Its street date is the 14th.

I actually had a friend call me and say he just picked it up; he was wondering if I had gotten the release date wrong. I've known him since highschool so I know he's not kidding. He works here with me so I'll see him in an hour or so to confirm it, but it seems true. No collector's edition though, just normal edition at the two eb's I've called and the one he got his from.

If not for wanting collector's I'd jump and pick it up during my lunch break.. I still might, and then gift the normal edition to a friend. What's 40 bucks to get some practice in over my weekend? Plus I'll get yet another buddy joining me online.

On that note, anyone have any luck finding an EB with collector's edition?

The store i purchased mine from had just 1 copy of the CE and 10 copies of the regular....

I didn't cancel my pre-order....my son has decided that he wants to play now so i'm giving him that copy and i'll play on the one i just purchased from Gamestop...

I understand whats your saying and i support that all the way...but.... i get to practice now till tuesday :p ...on a side note...you really should look into allowing the digital pre-orders to be able to DL earlier...

Well I purchased the game today at a gamestop in Dallas... Was surprised when I got the call last night telling me I could pick up my preorder today... Thoes calls come from the main headquarters so they didnt know about a streetdate apparently. I even asked about the fact that its supposed to be on the 14th not the 9th... Guy at the store said hmm looked it up and even checked the corporate emails... According to him there was no street date on the product from corporate so it was fine to sell.... I assume all the gamestops and ebgames will have them on sale today... Looks like someone screwed up and didnt pass the streetdate info along to the stores or something.

No worries Frogboy, I've decided a bit ago not to cancel. Too much hassle, and it's not your fault, and I'm just being an impatient idiot. At best I'll pick up a normal addition to lan with and maybe even to avoid the download with and then gift it.

Still, you have to understand the position of the customer. For many people, this fluke of eb games is 1000x more effective than waiting for Tuesday to download or pick up the game. It's not your fault and it shouldn't of happened, but a lot will still cancel just because it's the more effective choice at the moment considering how release is going to be done.

Thanks, though it doesn't matter much now. At best I'll stick to a normal copy and continue to get my collector's through Stardock.

Sounds like those stores are all breaking street date.

It's not uncommon for stores to get the product prior to the stree date.  This allows them to start selling day 1 without having to wait for a shipment to arrive.

BUT... they're suppose to put the product in the back and NOT SELL it.

Often times, if some breakes stree date, they as a company get fined $$$ and it opens the flood gates for everyone to be able to get it sooner...

Will see if that happens.  Not that it matters much for me, as I've got family coming into town this weekend and won't have much time to play.

Aye, that's how it works. Usually only for larger companies or big games though, I'm too used to picking up games on release day as they get the shipment fresh from ups on my way to work.

I remember when Funcom allowed customers to purchase AoC a week before street date, that was pretty cool. In retrospect though, they probably  just wanted to make sales before people played the game through head start and canceled as you can't return opened pc games.

Yeah being able to play all weekend long, Friday - Monday, is a huge deal.  Waiting until Tuesday, while the actual release date, seems so far off when we have all weekend off and could be playing.  I will not cancel my preorder however.

the collectors edition has a poster/action figure/sound track only right?

nothing in game?

If somone who has bought a copy of Demigod from a retailer could send us a photocopy of their sales receipt, that would be very helpful as they are telling us this is all fantasy. Please send it to [email protected].

I'll have my buddy let me photocopy the receipt and I'll send it to you. I'm sure the more examples you have the better you can argue your case.

In the meantime, if we verify that a substantial number of Gamestops are selling the game early, we'll be making the game available to those who pre-ordered on Monday.  We'd do it today but our offices are closed and the servers are not fully enabled yet (since the release was supposed to be after Easter).

I think that Gamestop can get away with this, They just say it's an error in the computer system.  Stardock is a smaller publisher.  This happens to alot of other AAA games.

At most you would lose $2,000 in lost revenue due to gamestop.  Think of it as free advertisement/hype.

That's what I call a quality company. When this happened to Hellgate:London, Flagship just laughed and said "Oh well, wish them the best of luck as they enjoy the game a week earlier than expected."

I greatly appreciate that you guys are doing the best you can to clean up Gamestop's mess even though you have zero obligation to do so. I'll eagerly await the game come Monday.

Aww.  Hope this doesn't end up costing Stardock/GPG too much.

Just got done picking up my copy from gamestop, after talking to him for a bit, he was under the impression that they had a contract with the distributor to sell the game early to help boost pc sales in their stores since pc sales are way down.

I hope gamestop gets tar + feather + flame on toe!  (I hate EB/Gamestop with a passion!)  10 years ago they used to be good stores...

Now they're the used car salesmen of the game industry.  Screw them and thier required pre-orders (and trying to talk me to buying used stuff so they make more money).

I'll stick to giving developers my money, save gas money, don't have to wait in line at a register and just digial download.

When i bought my copy of Fallout 3 there was a huge sticker on the top saying not to sell it before release date.

BTW, thanks stardock, this kind of direct customer contact is something very rare to see these days.

Well, that's pretty crappy for Gamestop to do. Go get 'em, SD!
