Sins of a Solar Empire - Entrenchment Beta Information

Welcome to the beta test for Sins of a Solar Empire - Entrenchment!  This micro-expansion is jam packed with enough features to qualify as a full fledged expansion pack, so we know it'll keep everyone busy for quite awhile. ;)  That said, this is a beta - put simply this is going to be very buggy and somewhat unbalanced.

If you don't want to deal with bugs, balance issues or providing feedback to improve the game please wait for the final release!

The Entrenchment beta is available in English only!

Here are the highlights for Entrenchment:

  • Starbases:  Construct powerful bases within any gravity well to help fortify your empire and project your power across the stars.  Each race's base is unique and upgradable with a number of abilities via research.
  • Defense Tech Tree:  Improve your defenses with the new Defense tech tree. Here is where you'll learn how to build starbases and upgrade them, in addition to improving your existing defense technologies.
  • Upgraded Defense Structures:  Improve your defense turrets and hangar bays with new abilities and better firepower!
  • Mine Fields:  Each race can now build (with the appropriate tech) mine fields within their gravity wells (or those of others).  These powerful devices can lay waste to an incoming enemy fleet if positioned properly.
  • New/Updated Frigates/Cruisers: New and updated frigates and cruisers will give you the power to lay mines, establish starbases or bring them down with powerful attacks.
  • Improved AI:  The AI has been improved substantially to be more deadly than ever before and now uses fleet tactics better.
  • Improved Graphics:  New stellar backgrounds, particle fx, and textures make Sins look better than ever.
  • and much more.

To install Entrenchment:

  1. First, you will need the full version of Sins of a Solar Empire v1.12.  This update can be obtained via Impulse (http://www.impulsedriven.com).
  2. Once your pre-order is charged, you will see Entrenchment appear in Impulse under your My Games tab. Just click the Install button and Impulse will handle the rest.
    1. If you don't see Entrenchment appear after getting your order receipt via email from us, try Checking for Updates in Impulse (click the Stardock orb in the upper-left and select Check for Updates).
    2. If that doesn't work, you can manually register your Entrenchment serial number in Impulse. Click the blue ? in the upper right and select Register a Product.
    3. NOTE: Your order number is NOT your serial number.  Your charged pre-order receipt will clearly list your Serial Number.
  3. Once Entrenchment is installed, regular Sins will disappear from Impulse.  You will only be able to play online against other Entrenchment players during the beta.

Posting about Bugs:

Please check out Annatar's stickied thread about providing feedback to us about the beta:

Keep in mind that this version of Entrenchment is not finished. We're at the beginning of the beta process, not the end. ;)

Just started downloading! 91 MB @ 100 kb/s shouldn't take too long. Ironclad keeps impressing me with these small download sizes :)

Sweet, I am finally off work and leaving for home.  Will get it downloaded and once the kids are in bed (and wifey too), will make my way back downstairs to the computer sanctuary for a night of pure bliss.

how long does it take to install? The download completed, but it has been installing for about 15 minutes

My face used to look like this :).  It has turned to this :|.  It is almost :(

It just showed up in Impulse for me

I got the email confirmation about an hour before Impulse showed it, even with manually adding the Entrencement Registration - I now have the Rego listed twice ^_^

And now there  is the wait for the download - nearly 300MB ...

Can't wait to get into playing though.

So far, I have seen three issues with the mod. First, the Terran Starbase wasn't upgrading, and second, there is a bug in the mines. If you lay out a field and then right clock to cancel, you get all the money for the entire field back for each mine you clear. Also, the game will let you go way into the red, rather than stopping you at "0".

The mines are also too powerful. You can seed your enitre system with over 750 patterns of them. There needs to be a top on the number allowed, either by tactical slots or just a set number.

Well this sucks.  A friend of mine just preordered a few days ago and he already got his serial.  I preordered MONTHS ago and still don't have mine.

What's up with that?  Better to order late?

I just wanted to make sure I'm e-mailing my minidumps to the proper Ironclad E-mail address.  Should I use support(at)ironcladgames(dot)com or is there an e-mail address just for Beta feedback?  Thanks.

You're good on the email addy, Cripple_X :)

Any word on how to fix the dump problem yet. Can't play at all atm.

Dear Lord,

Did you update to 1.12 before you received entrenchment? If not, you could have a whole slew of minidumps and other problems.  If this is the case, dont worry about it. Download both 1.12 SINS and Entrenchment again and you should be fine. If you are still taking dumps after that, then please send them to [email protected] so we can investigate.

it was in one of craig's or blair's past posts about 1.12 crashes and the fix was obout tweaking the graphics in the option menu. i think it was bump maping to low and all else on high and not the highest. well it worked for me.

p.s. and i do have v 1.12

Well, it's been more than 24 hours and still no serial number nor any word from Stardock on what's up.

Can I please get my serial number?  I ordered early in the hopes I could get it early.  Now I'm just hoping I can get it at all.

I emailed Stardock sales, but still no word from them either.

Any chance you sent it to a different e-mail address sbradfor? You should have received it by now.

I can`t disagree more. Again, as I mentioned in posts about strategic abailities/cannons many moons ago, don`t allow your opponent to mine the piss out of every sector - MOVE. DO something. This year.

I`m not trying to be arsical (!), but mines SHOULD be deadly... thats the point of mining a sector... denial... threat... . I love how the mines work. The name of this expansion *is* "Entrenchment", not "Combat Scenario Subtle Supplement".

Yet yall update and the game still mini dumps after 7-10 minutes!!!!!!!!!!!

Pre-ordered on the 16th around 7pm GMT and havent recieved my serial, emailed support that evening and was told I should have it by midday next day (late evening my time) and if not to contact again. I did and havent heard since.

Mavvv be Concerned much :(

ags19, try getting your latest video card drivers and/or turn down your texture quality settings. These early dumps often are caused by texture overload.
