Sins of a Solar Empire - Entrenchment Beta Information

Welcome to the beta test for Sins of a Solar Empire - Entrenchment!  This micro-expansion is jam packed with enough features to qualify as a full fledged expansion pack, so we know it'll keep everyone busy for quite awhile. ;)  That said, this is a beta - put simply this is going to be very buggy and somewhat unbalanced.

If you don't want to deal with bugs, balance issues or providing feedback to improve the game please wait for the final release!

The Entrenchment beta is available in English only!

Here are the highlights for Entrenchment:

  • Starbases:  Construct powerful bases within any gravity well to help fortify your empire and project your power across the stars.  Each race's base is unique and upgradable with a number of abilities via research.
  • Defense Tech Tree:  Improve your defenses with the new Defense tech tree. Here is where you'll learn how to build starbases and upgrade them, in addition to improving your existing defense technologies.
  • Upgraded Defense Structures:  Improve your defense turrets and hangar bays with new abilities and better firepower!
  • Mine Fields:  Each race can now build (with the appropriate tech) mine fields within their gravity wells (or those of others).  These powerful devices can lay waste to an incoming enemy fleet if positioned properly.
  • New/Updated Frigates/Cruisers: New and updated frigates and cruisers will give you the power to lay mines, establish starbases or bring them down with powerful attacks.
  • Improved AI:  The AI has been improved substantially to be more deadly than ever before and now uses fleet tactics better.
  • Improved Graphics:  New stellar backgrounds, particle fx, and textures make Sins look better than ever.
  • and much more.

To install Entrenchment:

  1. First, you will need the full version of Sins of a Solar Empire v1.12.  This update can be obtained via Impulse (http://www.impulsedriven.com).
  2. Once your pre-order is charged, you will see Entrenchment appear in Impulse under your My Games tab. Just click the Install button and Impulse will handle the rest.
    1. If you don't see Entrenchment appear after getting your order receipt via email from us, try Checking for Updates in Impulse (click the Stardock orb in the upper-left and select Check for Updates).
    2. If that doesn't work, you can manually register your Entrenchment serial number in Impulse. Click the blue ? in the upper right and select Register a Product.
    3. NOTE: Your order number is NOT your serial number.  Your charged pre-order receipt will clearly list your Serial Number.
  3. Once Entrenchment is installed, regular Sins will disappear from Impulse.  You will only be able to play online against other Entrenchment players during the beta.

Posting about Bugs:

Please check out Annatar's stickied thread about providing feedback to us about the beta:

Keep in mind that this version of Entrenchment is not finished. We're at the beginning of the beta process, not the end. ;)

I have a stupid question !!

does the 9.95$ that I will pay will allow me to play the final release of "Sins of a Solar Empire: Entrenchment" ?!!

Yes of course :) We don't pay just to test. We pre-order to get the final, and be included in the test :)

where are current change logs. i just got beta 1.1 and it would help alot to evaluate the beta if we knew the current state of changes.

This would be nice. Just patched it to 0.91.002 and it would be nice to see what the changes were so we can test them, see if they are working properly or if you broke something else.

Thanks!

Greetings,

I've purchased the expansion, and received my email with my serial number. But for the life of me I can't get impulse to let me download it. I've tried updating, and I've tried to load the registation manually as per the instructions given at the beginning of this thread. If anyone has any suggestions I'd be more than happy to hear them.

"Dear Lord,

Did you update to 1.12 before you received entrenchment? If not, you could have a whole slew of minidumps and other problems.  If this is the case, dont worry about it. Download both 1.12 SINS and Entrenchment again and you should be fine. If you are still taking dumps after that, then please send them to [email protected] so we can investigate."

Did you purposely word your post this way?

"Dear Lord," ? and "If you are still taking dumps..."

Just caught me as pretty funny.

ags19, try getting your latest video card drivers and/or turn down your texture quality settings. These early dumps often are caused by texture overload.

Craig, I get a md only when I exit the game ,can play for hours.(As soon as I hit end game) I wonder if the ram on the 8800gtx is the reason I dont get the 10 min md. But there is a mem leak.....

jjz- I was laughing at that too ahhaha

Sorry, I just couldn't resist :P

@wbino - yeah, that could be a problem. We'll need to look into it further.

I downloaded SINS 1.12 and then entrenchment, but the mini dump keeps popping up at random times and the game stops working. What then?

In the starting post stands that the regular Sins of a Solar Empire entry will dissapear after Entrenchment is added to the Impulse account BUT for me both are shown up... that means i have the regular Sins of a Solar Empire and the Sins - Entrenchment entry in my "My Games" list...

I wonder why this is so because both entrys launch the Entrenchment game (what seems logic cause there is only one installation directory) but when i update the game via my regular Sins entry in Impulse i kill my installation and I have to reinstall to play the game... only if I use the Entrenchment entry to update the game it works correclty... this is no prolbem to me as far as I know this now :) but wouldent it be better that there is only the Entrenchment entry in Impluse and not both games shown there ??

(if it is hard to understand or the spelling / gramma is bad, I'm sorry (not native english) )

I have the same issue with both appearing on impulse. I think however it's mroe to remind the person they purchased  both games, since some people who never bothered registering their original sins game can only download the expansion (afaik)

*shreugs* either way Entrenchment installed fine for me and is well worth the money, only downside is there's not way to launch into 1.12 sins to play games with mods.

Silveressa: make a copy of the sins folder before installing entrenchment, that way you can have both.

BTW, is there any official word, unoffical word, wild speculation, crackpot stories or bathroom gossip when the next update to Entrenchment will be coming? :P

I don't remember which thread, but saw somewhere at the beginning of last week that they were compiling all feedback and working on some things and "hopefully" would have something for us by the end of this week...If I Remeber Correctly.

You are coorect TheSpydyr.

It was said that potentially an update could be released on this Thursday (1/15).  Granted that is if they get all the community requested changes, fixes and suggestions they wanted incorporated into the update.

I'm VERY exited wherther they implemented all the suggestions I've read in this forum cause I don't want to change back to 1.12 ... its kinda... that I love the improved defence abilities and well... it seems the AI is better then without Entrenchment but could just be an imagination ^^

and at least Vasari's star base can move :D

And refering to the problem that you have two entries in your Impulse .. (the standard version of Sins AND Entrenchment) its solved for me... there is only one entrence from today.. the other one dissapeared.

so i was a dummy and didnt read this post before tryin to uninstall the entrenchment expansion...and summarily was aggravated with self cuz now i have to re-download it grr.  <X3   some how it uninstalled some of the sins files too now i have to redownload those as well...*sigh* long night in the desert for me.

*edit* btw my problem was the black screen of non-playability cuz i had a mod active *doh*:dur:

wait - so this so called "life expanding" stretegy is a cash scoop? i smell a big rat.

:annoyed: :banhammer:

anyway, how much does this cost and when will i see it instore way over in australia?(oh sorry, canberra) >_>

It costs $10 US, but it will never be on a store shelf by itself. Impulse only, on February 25th (or beta now).

litle pet slinki -

There's only a "rat" if someone ever claimed it was going to be free, which they didn't (in fact the pricing came out with the initial announcement), or if not having it somehow breaks the game, which it doesn't.  What's being offered isn't exactly horse armor for spaceships - there are many fun (imo), functional additions to this mini-expansion for only $10.  Check out the threads, see what you think, and figure out if it's worth it to you!

If you dont wanna to pay $10 for the huge amount of changes Entrenchment will bring then dont. Life will go on. And Vanillia SINS will still be an awesome game.

But shame on anyone for bashing the extreamly low price of $10. For all the work they have put into it, Most other companies would of chaged at least 3x that.

Hehe...we were well over budget a month ago. This expansion was not priced properly, i highly doubt anyone will complain about its value once they've played it ;)
