Welcome to the beta test for Sins of a Solar Empire - Entrenchment!  This micro-expansion is jam packed with enough features to qualify as a full fledged expansion pack, so we know it'll keep everyone busy for quite awhile. ;)  That said, this is a beta - put simply this is going to be very buggy and somewhat unbalanced.

If you don't want to deal with bugs, balance issues or providing feedback to improve the game please wait for the final release!

The Entrenchment beta is available in English only!

Here are the highlights for Entrenchment:

  • Starbases:  Construct powerful bases within any gravity well to help fortify your empire and project your power across the stars.  Each race's base is unique and upgradable with a number of abilities via research.
  • Defense Tech Tree:  Improve your defenses with the new Defense tech tree. Here is where you'll learn how to build starbases and upgrade them, in addition to improving your existing defense technologies.
  • Upgraded Defense Structures:  Improve your defense turrets and hangar bays with new abilities and better firepower!
  • Mine Fields:  Each race can now build (with the appropriate tech) mine fields within their gravity wells (or those of others).  These powerful devices can lay waste to an incoming enemy fleet if positioned properly.
  • New/Updated Frigates/Cruisers: New and updated frigates and cruisers will give you the power to lay mines, establish starbases or bring them down with powerful attacks.
  • Improved AI:  The AI has been improved substantially to be more deadly than ever before and now uses fleet tactics better.
  • Improved Graphics:  New stellar backgrounds, particle fx, and textures make Sins look better than ever.
  • and much more.

To install Entrenchment:

  1. First, you will need the full version of Sins of a Solar Empire v1.12.  This update can be obtained via Impulse (http://www.impulsedriven.com).
  2. Once your pre-order is charged, you will see Entrenchment appear in Impulse under your My Games tab. Just click the Install button and Impulse will handle the rest.
    1. If you don't see Entrenchment appear after getting your order receipt via email from us, try Checking for Updates in Impulse (click the Stardock orb in the upper-left and select Check for Updates).
    2. If that doesn't work, you can manually register your Entrenchment serial number in Impulse. Click the blue ? in the upper right and select Register a Product.
    3. NOTE: Your order number is NOT your serial number.  Your charged pre-order receipt will clearly list your Serial Number.
  3. Once Entrenchment is installed, regular Sins will disappear from Impulse.  You will only be able to play online against other Entrenchment players during the beta.

Most importantly, unless you like long games, set all the Game Option speeds to Fast. Doing so will help with pacing quite a bit.

why does this have to be said?   Shouldn't that mean that 'fast' should become the normal speed?

Whenever i try to launch it, it just goes to a black screen, and then i cant do anything to get out of it, except restart my computer. Any ideas?

Greetings all - There was something misconfigured on the server which was causing some Entrenchment installs to not work.  If you fall into this category (and I imagine you know who you are) please do the following:

1) In Impulse click the Stardock logo (orb) in the upper-left and select Check for Updates (or restart Impulse).

2) Install Entrenchment normally. If you have an install in progress and don't want to take any chances, Cancel it and start over.

if it wasn't already mentioned here:

beware if you have a mod on auto-load with your 1.12 sins install.

 

I had "urban expansion beta 1" installed - updated to entrenchment and everytime it startet I just got a black screen and my pc just hung there with no response.

nothing helped except a full pc-reset.

tried several times with the same result until I deleted the mod and it worked right away ;)

Is there a way I can tell if my preorder actually happened within Impulse?  I haven't received any email as of yet, but I don't think I ever received any email when I preordered... so now I'm concerned...

Hi Jimmy,
-When you get the black screen how long do you wait?
-Can you try CTRL+ALT+TAB when this happens - be sure to wait a good 20 seconds or so first.
-If this doesnt work I'll need you to find your user.setting file and change the line "ISWINDOWED FALSE" to "ISWINDOWED TRUE"  On XP you can find user.setting here: C:\Documents and Settings\user\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Setting
-If you can't start in windowed mode, I am concerned that your video card may not be sufficient.
Let me know how this goes.

Did you pre-order it with something else? If you got it with Elemental for example, it wouldn't process until Elemental is available. Your best bet is to check with [email protected] if you're sure you pre-ordered it but don't have a confirmation email.

Mods broken for Entrenchment Beta, can we expect the same for the full release, or compatibility?

They'll stay broken for a while :P There are many new entities and other changes, mods will need to be updated.

Mods won't work with Entrenchment until they are updated. And as usual, saved games and replays will not work with the new game.

Looks like I did find a confirmation email from Nov 21st... I guess I just need to be patient....

I have a problem. I ordered in the past with a card that had sufficient funds in it. Now however, I'm not so sure that it has those funds. If it turns out that I get declined, an email notifying me will still be sent right? The wait is killing me, and I need to know if I should go ahead and try another card. Thanks!

like I said Nov. 13th and I haven't received it yet and I have plenty of fundage in the bank account that I used.  As soon as I get my confirmation email...I'll post to let e1 know they are on the 13th.

Be patient...young padawans...it will come as soon as they can get it.  play v1.12 until that time arrives.:thumbsup:

Yeah, hopefully ours, Nephilim, will go perfect...hopefully...

So instead of studying for my french culture (:( ) final, I stare at a blank Impulse that is no Pulsing with Updates Available or something like that.

JK, I'm doing other things...but nothing for school lol...
