Stardock announced a huge free update for Sins of a Solar Empire today, the award-winning title from developer Ironclad Games. Additionally, fans that pre-order the expansion will be included in the upcoming beta for “Entrenchment”. Fans can pre-order the expansion at www.impulsedriven.com.

Highlights from the 1.1 change log include:

  • Alloy Networking Technology – allows for seamless multiplayer without needing to deal with port forwarding or other router settings
  • Major upgrade to the graphics engine for better performance on all systems
  • Updated/improved graphics (textures, new models, explosions and more)
  • Mini-Underground Window – allows you to buy/sell resources and make pirate bids on the main gameplay screen
  • Improved game balance
  • Improved AI
  • Bug fixes and much more

I got mine downloaded and working finally.  Just had to "Resume" several times, but it finally downloaded it all.  GREAT explosions in the game now.

I have the same problem as lifeat30fps. It doesn't show up in Impulse. I went through the "updates" in game, and that didn't work. If I enable "Show Pre-Release Versions" I can download 1.09b, but no 1.1. Some help would be really appreciated. I really want to play this.

EDIT: Nevermind. Just tried again, and now 1.1 is there. I hit the "Check for Updates" and then it appeared. This is weird, because that didn't work last time I tried it. Oh well, at least I can get it now.

Might be a dumb suggestion, kyogre, have you tried re-logging or hitting F5 to refresh? Without pre-release checked, what version does it show as available? 1.05?

1.1 is not Entrenchment :) The January 1, 2009 date for Entrenchment is a placeholder. The beta will be out "soon", with the final release date depending on how the beta goes.

I am downloading the patch normally.  I have 1.05 and have never done any betas.  It still says Verifying Download.  Should I try logging off or something?

If you're running Vista, make sure you run Impulse as Administrator otherwise it apparently won't verify. I'm not sure if you'll need to re-download, but I don't think so. Just close Impulse, right click the icon and Run as Administrator. The patch should show up as paused in your Updates tab and you should be able to continue.

How do you download it?  There is no link to the patch in the download section.  Also, the update button on the splash panel for the game calls up an Impulse panel that doesn't do anything.  Every time I type in my account info it returns with "Server not responding please check your connection".   This stupid Impulse service has been like that ever since it was implemented.   The only time I was able to update via the official "update" button was when I first got the game a few months ago.   Later I got the Impulse add on and it was broken thereafter.

HOW CAN I UPDATE!!???

Yeah I got it.  I just logged off of Impulse and it worked that time.  Thanks.

New Fighters and Bombers are a nice touch too.  Purdddddyyyy explosions.  Nice TEC Capital Ship Factory detail increases!!

Thanks Stardock and Ironclad.  Much appreciated, will finally play a game with 1.1 sometime later I'm sure.  Plus, I really enjoyed that after having the game updated to the beta, it only took a minute or two to fully update to the final version.

I installed IMPULSE, logged in, and all I can see in SINS 1.05.. and for $39.99...

Did you register Sins? It should show up in My Games if you did with a yellow (!) that indicates the update. If you haven't registered, click on the blue question mark in the upper right and select Register a Product, select Sins and put in your serial ;)

Ok Guys, no matter what I do, I cannot ping 38.98.152.155. Is the server down? I can't install Impulse at all! Can someone please help me?!?!?! I tried everything! From moving to the DMZ to closing firewalls and Antiviruses to trying to install on a different computer that can ping it (still didn't work). What can I do?

I've paused, restarted and refreshed multiple times and closed and reopened impulse (as an admin), but it do anything else.  :(

Maybe someone turned the servers off when they went home for the night?

Can I get DRM and a direct download of the patch?

Restarted this morning...

Impulse updated itself - looks and feels MILES better! Great job!

Resumed downloading patch...

Got it at 150Kb

Havent had much time to test it but it seams that game runs 5x smoother and better and as many pointed out new explosions are frekn genius!!!

Awesome job guys and keep up the great work :)

Is anyone having issues connecting to the game? I started up after upgrading and my account name was wiped in ICO - putting them back in (correctly I believe) gives me "Disconnect from ICO" error message.

I also had to reset my resolution...

The ship deaths?  Yes those are very nice.  But most of the TEC missile impacts make me want my 1.05 mods back <_<

Oh well, it's a good update and I know the MOD community will forge on ahead.

 

Just one question though, I like the TEC's new bombers but why did you change them?  Did battlestar Galatica threaten to sue? :rofl:

Pretty sure the reason was explained that the fighter and bomber looked too much alike.

Only played a little tonight, but liked the little I saw so far.  Had to shut off the default camera twist though.  Ugh, that was weird.  Camera still feels a little strange, but I think it's me and not the game.
