Tutorial Authors Needed

Write a tutorial for one of the programs from Stardock

I'm often searching for tutorials for the programs that i use from Stardock. There are only a few here, so I am proposing that we start to make some tutorials for the programs that don't already have one. I'm sure that I'm not the only one who is often looking for tutorials, so this project is for anybody who is like that.

My thoughts were

  • Pictures to help the reader understand what to do better
  • Put together into a PDF file to be one big tutorial file in the end as well as separate tutorials.

Please try to upload it as a MS Word document, but if you can't, a PDF will do.

This project is open to everyone, and every contribution will be more than welcome!

SkinStudio - Open
CursorFX - Open

LogonStudio Vista - Open
WinMedia - Open
ScreenSavers - Open

WinAmp - alibear123 - In Process
SysMetrix - alibear123 - Completed

If there are any others that I haven't included that you would like to do, please just say and I'll add it.

Already done:

  • DesktopX
  • IconPackager
  • WindowBlinds

alibear, while I appreciate the effort you have made and want to make I think that the wiki is the best way to handle these.  It's supported by Stardock, it's an open format, it's open to revision.

Why do something different and more limited?

I think the person is referring to alibears site. Haven't seen alibear around recently......probably busy with school or something (He's 11 or 12 years old) XD

Hi, I'm back - Yeah, I had to take the file off of my web site because A) Everyone in my classes at school was looking at my site and calling me names for what I had on it and B) I have kept on looking at the forum threads I was related to and nobody was talking on them. I also had to rebuild my computer so I lost all the  skins I was working on... :'(

But I'm back now. I won't bother with my tutorial thing anymore as there is, as so many people have pointed out, the Wiki.

However, I have uploaded my SysMetrix tutorial to MediaFire - You can get it here:

http://www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=254cf251802813bb111096d429abd360e49147db9a93f249bf1b77d2eb488dac

It's a Zip file containing everything necessary for the tutorial. The actual tutorial is a Word '07 .docx, so I will be creating a PDF version soon.

I am not a Tute writer but as a newbie I know we want them kept as simple as possible. My last know language was HTML and some CSS so you can imagine how in the past I live. Just remember you all have been doing your area of expertise for a long time. Slowly walk us through. You can always add a definition list elsewhere. I saw this because so many tutes I read are "techie" and for others who know the process its simple to comprehend...newbies...stumble trying to figure out whats what. I am soooo glad this post was made because I have been round and round this site and found many times I cannot locate a tutorial on whatever I am doing. So Kudo to the author of this post. Please hurry we are waiting Skinners and Artists!!

um, this post is almost two years old and there might just be some tutorials written since then, well, okay, I already know that there are, so, go to the bottom of the page and click on the wincustomize wiki link and see what there is that might be of use to you.

I'll agree with you some, if you do not know how to make graphics or what layers or masks are, it will seem rather techie. it still is techie to me at times but that is what the forums are for, to ask questions. but again, you need to have an understanding/working knowledge of your "paint" program (photoshop, paint shop pro, gimp, etc.) before the skinning part makes sense.
