Sins v1.1 Beta Information

Sins v1.1 Beta Information

Read this before you get started!

The Sins of a Solar Empire v1.1 BETA will become available on Thursday, July 24th. As the name states, this is a BETA release and it will have bugs and other issues. Please do not install the BETA unless you're willing to accept all that testing it entails. We will be looking towards users to give us feedback on what's broken and what you'd like to see improved during the test.

The version 1.1 BETA will be available in English only and only via our Impulse client (the final release will be available in multiple languages for those who purchased the game from Kalypso).  The Impulse client is free and may be downloaded from http://www.impulsedriven.com

If you have a forum account here or on any other Stardock website, you may use it to log into Impulse.  The Impulse client should automatically see your Sins install; this assumes that you registered Sins of a Solar Empire under the same account (i.e., email address). If you did not, you will need to manually register your game in Impulse by clicking the window icon in the upper right corner (see screenshot below) or clicking on the Orb and selecting "Register a product."

Impulse Registration

At this point, you should see Sins of a Solar Empire appear under the My Games tab. If you want, you can drag and drop other games' shortcuts into Impulse to launch them from here, but that's off-topic...

As this is a BETA, you will need to tell Impulse that you want to see pre-release versions of the game. You can do this by clicking on the Orb in the upper left and selecting "Show pre-release versions."

Show pre-release versions

Impulse will now check to see if an update is available for Sins.  After we've released an update, you will see a separate Update tab in Impulse, but you may also update the game from the My Games tab. Just select Sins of a Solar Empire and click the Update button. Impulse will compare your installed files against what's available on the server and update accordingly.

Some Final Notes on the BETA

  • Impulse will show the Sins update as v1.09.  This is normal as we're working up to v1.1.  As we put out updated BETA versions, the version number will increase until we hit the final v1.1. :)
  • You will only be able to play multiplayer games with others using the v1.09 BETA (you can still play single-player games too).
  • If you run into problems or have other feedback, please post it in the Beta Feedback forum. We will be looking for reports here and if you post them elsewhere, they may be missed.
  • You can read over the Change Log here.

The Sins v1.1 BETA will be made available on Thursday, July 24.

UPDATE:  If it's taking a long time to download the Sins update, you may want to uninstall the game and reinstall the entire beta fresh. Full installs come off our Cachefly network which has a multiple servers and loads of bandwidth. ;)

It is not like you to miss easy things.

Yes it is. You obviously haven't seen every thread I post in.

I'm suprised you can remember anything!

My secret is: ... I don't. X-( I often have to read a few posts before I remember what a thread was about.

My excuse for being on so much is that I'm just going to college part time, and waiting for somebody to call me back about my applications. As much as I like squatting on the forums, I need to pay rent more. X-(

And yes, I am getting enough sleep, but only thanks to midday naps. Those are 'cause I'm a procrastinator. I have an essay to write for my class that's in twelve hours, it's 10:40 PM here, and I haven't slept yet. It's why I'm writing this big 'ol (For me) post instead of working on it or sleeping. ;p

Now enough about me. Back to the thread:
Anyways, the first two lines still stand as I haven't thought of anything else.

...From the looks of things (and my internet issues and stuff) I think I'm going to pass on the beta this time. My internet is kinda slow anyways...I know its kinda early but do you know when the final version will be out?

Guess you guys don't know right now then...lol
Ah well, I'll keep an eye out on this thread.

Probably a while. I think they were planning on having the Beta go for a month or two to iron everything out.

When I try to get the download on Impulse it says "download starting" and never does anything. Anyone else have this?

Click the blue orb in the corner of Impulse to access the preferences, and try the alternate download mechanism option in there.

hmmm...hello, KHMBLR. It's been a couple years since I saw you last in EVE, eh? I'm combing through the forums trying to find out how to download the beta and try out Sins. It shows my old 'The Corporate Machine' login from years and years ago, but unfortunately I'm forced to conclude that I would have had to purchase Sins previously in order to get the beta.

It's too bad, I would have liked to try out the game, but obviously not if I have to buy it first.

The beta is a patch beta for retail Sins. So yes, you sort of have to own Sins to be able to patch it :P

You can always download the demo if you want to try out the game.

What else would it show as?
Well they said 1.1

Also, i've had it updating for a hour now and its stuck with no bytes downloaded on Processing. Whats going on?

1.09(b) is the 1.1 beta :P

Clicky the orb in the top left, and try the new download mechanism. That should fix your download problem.

They said that the 1.1 Beta (1.09) would come out in mid-July, and they have said that the expected to have the Beta run a month of two. That's all.

Also, i've had it updating for a hour now and its stuck with no bytes downloaded on Processing. Whats going on?

Try:
Click the blue orb in the corner of Impulse to access the preferences, and try the alternate download mechanism option in there.

Jedi_General_501,

the "processing" it's doing is comparing 800+ files to see which ones need to be updated.

I'm getting an error when I try to update; "There is not enough space to install this application". I'm installing it to an External Hard drive with over 70 gigs of free space. Whats going on with it?

Is the main drive real low on space? Setup may be trying to use some temporary files that use up the space.
