Multiplayer Crashes

Multiplayer Crashes

I apologize for the MP dumps. I've addressed this multiple times in other threads but they've been buried so it isn't because we are ignoring it or trying to hide it - its just impossible to comment on it everytime it reappears in a new thread. Tech support has also been in email contact with a variety of people (including some in this thread).

The MP bug is 1 of 2 major bugs we are aware of and its a sync bug. Statistically, it is very rare which is why it is so difficult for us to track down (we have yet to see it ourselves but we have something going out soon that will help us find it from those who do get it). Also, any multiplayer fixes are scheduled to go out in 1.1 not 1.04. They are in seperate code paths and completely seperate systems being worked on by completely seperate people. This isn't a matter of just throwing the fix into 1.04 and 1.04 development is not slowing down 1.1's development so don't feel we are wasting time on 1.04 (balance + misc) when the *real* bug is in 1.1 (multiplayer).

Now, to save you all a lot of headaches - the nature of the sync bug is that once you've had a game where it happens it is very unlikely you can recover from a MP save game. If you load the MP save game and continue to play you will crash again. You will then load a more recent save game and crash again. The crashes will come more and more frequently. If you see this behavior just start over as its very probably that its the sync bug and the crash is nothing to do with your machines, network, or drivers. If you don't see this behavior, its likely a driver problem or you are running out of memory or you are running a bad mod (at least based on the data we've collected through tech support).

As soon as 1.04 is out I am going to make a post looking for volunteers. I have a special 1.04 build that will track the synchronization info we need to track it down. Since we can't recreate it we need to have a few players who it happens to regularly to play 1.04 with this build and then send us their logs when it goes out of sync.

P.S Minidump is the generic term for a general crash - it could be anything and is not caused by any specific problem. We can decode the minidump to get useful information on the true nature of the crash.

I've installed the 1.05 patch, the fixed exe from thread comment #49 and I've updated the graphic accleration driver for my nvidia geforce 7900 GS.but i still get the out of sync bug. I only play with one computer played opponent on a big map. Is the snyc bug already fixed? Is there anything left I can do? Perhaps I missed something because my english is not that good.I don't think you're experiencing a desync. The desync bug that this thread is about is specifically about LAN/Multiplayer. You can't desync if you're playing a single player game against an AI.If you're getting minidumps, send them to [email protected] and they can help you figure out what's causing them and if there's anything you can do.@darkcurrent:If you want to be banned, by all means, keep insulting in every thread you can.

I know but the thing is that I play against an AI and then I get the message than I'm disconnected.Oo

Um, okay :P Not sure what to tell you there. If you're playing through the Single Player option (not MP LAN/ICO) you shouldn't be having any issues. I honestly don't know why it would be giving you disconnection messages if you don't have any other players or anything. Didn't think you could even start an MP game with no players :P

@Kitkun

Sins only uses one core after loading textures, so CPU power has a lot to do with it. I'm coming up with the T2400 being 1.83GHz, and the Q6600 being 2.4GHz. And as the_Monk noted:

Oh god, are you that mentally retarded?

That's the POINT. Me and my bro do use different frequency CPU AND the fact that very rarely can play a game without minidump and desyncing demonstrates that it's NOT A CPU ISSUE.

Besides, how fast a CPU works is NOT directly correlated to CPU frequency. Ever wonder why at 2.4GHz Q6600 is MUCH faster than a 3.6GHz prescott when using a single thread?

It's the INSTRUCTIONS per sec and how efficient the CPU is.

Please get educated before replying, hell, go send this "fix" to stardock and you'll only get laughs in return.

That doesn't demonstrate that.

I know that. I posted that cause I was googling it for more info. At first I thought they use the same architecture, though now that I check again, I see they don't.

If there's anything more buggy than Sins of a solar empire, it's the_monk's brain. He just gets minidumps every time his neuron tries to fire.

He can't seem to get his facts straight, nor can he realize that a turd could beat him at an IQ exam.

Please, if you're going read his posts, you might as well wallow in mercury, at least they'll drop your IQ at a slower rate than the_monk.

@ darkcurrent,

Now that is some funny shit...did you come up with that all on your own?

Yes it does, idiot.

If you needed to google for more info, I think you should shut the F(_)CK up about whether CPU frequency causes the desyncing.

What? No response to how retarded your idea of how CPU and Connection speed differences causes the desyncing problems?

idiot.

darkcurrent,

Please read reply #6 in this thread by kmiller1610

In particular pay attention to the last paragraph of his post. Maybe you'd like to insult him as well?

I would like to volunteer to help with the crash debugging issue, if it is still needed. I have a multiplayer save which gets a crash that is most likely due to the sync issue.

Let me know by private message.

I believe IC plans to release a sync log tracker in the next beta push, until then there's nothing to do ;)

So a minidump crash is "normal"?  I feel bad for the other 5 guys who were in my first multiplayer game ever.  Not the best experience, seeing as how I just got the game and all.  Looks like this has been a problem for 5 months...I guess there's no quick resolution.  :X

I played my first multiplayer games a few days ago. Never had any problems in single player.

But when I see this bug exists since april or earlier, I look on my calender which says tomorrow is November, I feel very sorry for this. That are 7 months now without the bugs beeing so far terminated that gameplay becomes enjoyable.

Enjoyable would be to be able to play at least 4 games out of 5 without a crash. Actually it is ever 2 games someone dumps... In the lobby are like 60-80 people in the evening and I see the words "fucking dump" several times every day I am on.

When I look on the press, news and articles on their website where this game is advertised like hell as being very good, record sales and bug free I feel like starting to cry.

I really wish this game is *NOT* another rip-off where this bug is still there next year and noone on the dev team is working on it anymore. I bet they already made good money out of the game regarding the amount of sold copies.

The 1.1 patch is announced quite a while, when is it finally coming??? Will it fix at least some dump reasons? Noone can tell us...

Before you start to flame me, please think about what is so hard to fix a bug in 7 MONTHS (!!!) ???

Well, enough said. Could post more, but I am sure 50% of the people don't want to read anymore :)

P.S. Good luck on fixing the bug(s)!

A friend of mine and I connected through Hamachi and we were able to start a Multiplayer Game.  We started by making sure we could ping one-another and it worked like a champ.  We are on the .38 build.

I was hoping to find a complete fix for the bug at the end of this thread, but I guess I'll just have to try the test fix....

Anyways, I just got the game, and I have had several minidump errors clearly due to desync. Do I send the logs to Brian, or would they even help, since I was playing without any updates?

i'm encountering the desync every time i play (playing entrenchement beta currently) - sometimes earlier sometimes later in a game (most of the time later). sometimes its not even crashing. it simply runs out of sync - when my buddy an me playing with teamspeak he tells me that a planet is raped by pirates, in my copy of the game the planet is all mine - no attacks...

what is the current state of the desync problem? will it be fixed with entrenchement release?

in the 6 times i tried to play online with my friend, they all ended up with the desync problem.

This isnt just with some people effecting. Ive had 12 games crash myself, and evry time someone starst one it crashes. Abotu 6-7 of us got tired of tyrign since yesterday ot play a full game and came here to complain. On one occasion of it I got a minidump when evryone else got disscannected if it helps at all to know:)

This is rediculous. All confidence is lost when my friends and I get the desynch problem 3 out of 4 games, usually not showing itself until 2 hours into the game. It's to the point where we don't want to play anymore because the ending is usually depressing.

This bug has been around since 1.04? Why are they working on new features and enrichment packs (which I own, too) when they can't even get basic multiplayer stable?

Just bought entrenchment, I really enjoy it...when it doesn't dump every other game.

Am i really reading this thread right?  This problem has been around since freaking April and there is still no fix for it?  You gotta be kidding me!  There is just no excuse for this...10 MONTHS!!  Honestly, are you guys even trying?

Come on Stardock,  can't we get a crappy little work around or maybe just a dev logging on giving everyone a warm fuzzy saying, "Yea, we're still working on it.  Should have a fix within the next 10 months"

They have FIXED a HUGE amount of bugs that cause MP to crash (Mini-Dump). There was more then one bug that caused it, and there may be more then one still outstanding.

It is impossible to prove a program is bug free, only that a bug exists... If you are having issues, send the mini-dump file to the iron clad support email address so they can look into it...

Hello,  we have just started playing on a closed two pc lan.  When we added AI's for multiplayer the game crashes .  But it is not the host but the other pc that stops responding ( in the interface it says "lagging" for the other pc) Both PC's are IDENTICAL and we have the better requirements for the game.  Is there a patch or something for us to use.

Thanks Jerry
