lol I should just make Sargent Johnson's voice the only voices on the UNSC side.
But I honestly don't know if we are going to use Game sounds. Honestly, I might have to ask Bungie about using them (or put up a disclaimer syaing there aren't mine) but i think it would be cool if I could get my hands on some.

actualy they are coprighted under microsoft, microsoft owns the halo franchise, not bungie
as long as you put up notices saying the sound clips are not yours, are not your intellectual property and you did not make them etc etc, you should be fine. Microsoft etc can/will only charge royalties if you intend to make money from the mod, but because its a free thing, and its a mod, they cant/wont charge you anything. copyright is a different matter but like i said before, put up notices saying these are original game sounds and not made by me etc, MS/Bungie should be fine

erm....i am a fairly avid halo fan, so, i thought id point out that, there is in fact pictures of the UNSC Destroyer and Covenant Destroyer, and even one of the Covenant Frigate, as well as Covenant Fighters. here they are if you didnt already see them...

I noticed you have said something about a beta in december or january, but are you planning on tying this mod into Diplomacy in febuary?

Well, Diplomacy seems like it would be non-existant for the UNSC/Covenant war anyways. However, given enough time, I plan on having releases for every version of Sins.
technically, there shouldnt be diplomacy between the Vasari/Advent/TEC either. we were told vehemently that the hatred and relentlessness of each of the races was unsurmountable, yet now they're playing nice...
however... diplomacy between the UNSC and Covenant is not unheard of... even with the Flood at some points (Halo 3)
It doesn't realy apply, but the Jackels are not really part of the covenant, they are just like an ally
Shouldn't the humans be not able to glass a planet? I have always thought it is the thing for The Covenant. Humans only capture planets.
So, my suggestion here is the following: The Covies have normal borbardment -thing, but when they do that, they (or anyone else) won't be able to colonize the planet for a long time (at least smthn like 10 minutes game-time, note AT LEAST), but as their ships are numerous, they aren't able to get the recources for them easily from other players. That should balance things, as the Covenant won't get their hand's into recources, they can't answer to the humans endless ship-assembly-line tactic with more ships of their own => balanced game.
The humans are kinda opposite. They send troops down and take out it's health in a traditional way (shouldn't be a problem for the modders either, they just tweak the ammunition of the human's ships into something that resenbles like ODST attack, pelican troop transports and stuff. No modding here, and we got land warfare into game too :D). They work as the "real" Sins races. This also makes things more "realistic" to the saga, as the covenant didn't colonize human-habitet worlds, only killed them. The humans in their part were always fighting on the ground, not bombing the hell out of the worlds.
Covenant should be also able to do this "ground war" thing. They would suck at it, balancing the game, but it should be possible, as the covenant attacked with force, when they did attack, making the game again true to the halo series. Glassing sould be some kind of low-antimatter-requiring ability. This gives the Covenant two options. Humans have only one, but its economy friendlier, and they get a large empire, but suck realistically in space combat, but rule in ground war. Covies get ships slowly, but will fight equally with humans. Tactic for covenant to colonize worlds is amassing slowly a huge fleet of warships, and then own the humans, like in the saga. But if the mod is set right, the humans have a realistic chance of winning, in the early game. Both can win.
The tecnology trees could also be set like the covenants have only few or bad options, and advance slowly, but they are anyway better, so it shouldn't matter. The humans should suck in this aspect of the game too, until in tier 7-8 technology or so. Then their ships would nicely and quickly rise to the Covenant's level of space fighting, and that's the counter-tactic for huge Covie fleets. And true to the saga. And balanced. Shouldn't this be just perfect?
Also, in my opinion, CSS-cruiser should be not a Capital, but a cruiser. The player should be able to get his/her hands on loads of CSS's, as they are the basic warship of the Covenant fleet. And I love them.

Yeah, I know Chaoktay and his mod. I've had touble making his models look good in Sins though. They have rather bare textures.
