A few bugs I noticed during the last game:

- During the turn in which I took over the last Arcean planet, I was still able to contact them in the diplomacy screen. This occurred after the defeat movie was played. Though they were already defeated, I was able to get a starbase and all of the rest of their money and influence in exchange for a peace treaty. There were no planets on their planet list in the negotiation window. Once the turn was over, the Arceans were properly removed from the game. Unlike the rest of their starbases, the one they gave me did not disappear and was now under my possession.

- The minor civilization screen has espionage/destabilization sliders. Though it does not have the sliding gizmo, I can change the value using the arrows. I don't think it's actually using the numbers, because they don't change as I cycle the active minor civ. Oh yeah, one of the numbers seems to go below 76.

- The first civ I met did not appear on the relations screen until I met a 2nd civ several turns later. Even thought they weren't on that screen, I was able to contact them by clicking on their planet.

Ok, disregard that last report I made about ships not building. Apparently you can't have more than 16 ships in orbit around a star. At least, when I moved a few away my colonies there could make them again.

I wish some of this stuff had been in the manuel. :notsure:

I'm just glad my game's not hosed. :)

Hello. I've got a crash to desktop bug that happens quite a lot. When I change to a Republic Government and then the next turn when the Government votes, as soon as I click Next I crash to desktop.

Any suggestions? Any way I can give you more info?

Please help as I love this game....its the MOO3 I was waiting for.... LOL

Playing with patch 1.02.

BUG: If you buy a scout on Earth right on the first turn, you hear the 'coins falling' sound but nothing shows up on turn 2, you just lost your money! >:(

It happened 2 times (you bet I restarted each time!), then I chose to wait one turn before buying and...whooplah, everything normal!
I was on large map, loose clusters, adversaries at sub-normal, if it helps.

Here's one I'm not sure of, with 2.049:

The empire is evil. The only two forces left on the map are the Archieans and the Torians, both Neutral. I have an alliance with the Archieans, and the Torians and the Archieans have an alliance. At this point, aiming for alliance victory because I've not got there before and it seems possible, as long as I don't trigger a cultural one.

Ironically, named empire "alliance."

Try my best, I can't get the Torians to swing round to "close." I try giving them tons of tech and planets, but nothing seems to bring it up further than "friendly." Okay, reload to point before giving away the cow, forget alliance victory, aim for tech tree action. Then the weirdness sets in.

One, random event with the increased xenophilia. Planets start to come around to my empire. Shortly thereafter I get to victory screen, with FMV that I presume is for alliance victory, but the text read for the influence victory, but in the metagame record it was listed as alliance victory.

It's odd if not a bug.

In planet detail screen if you attampt to move an item's build priority to the end of the build list under the imperial/generic gov,it will cost the game turn to end an advance to the next turn. the item will move back to the top after leaving the bottom edge of the build list window. If you have hard time understand me, do this. load up a game where you have researched many buildable projects. go to the planet detail screen choose the generic/imperial gov then in the build list priority choose any itme then click the down arrow until it move off the bottom of the window if you keep on clicking the down arrow the game turn should end or some time the item will show up at the top of the list or there may be multiple item of the same name may show up.

One more thing I want to say. I'v been playing the game for many times it appears to me the york empire is always very weak. :(

Suddenly being in an alliance without asking for it, and without the AI asking me. This seems like a bug behaviour.

I think this might be a bug: After installing the update I played my first game with a tiny map size and close clusters and abundant worlds. SOL had an extra class 15 world so I colonized it. After 15 turns I received an intelligence brief about an evil presence on one of my worlds. The next turn SOL turned into a hostile system and started kicking out rangers. My other colony was hopelessly squashed 3 turns later. :sniff!:

doh!!! just saw this thread. here is what i posted in a different topic just now.

or at least im 99.99% sure its a bug

what happened is that now im pretty late in the game, in fact the only reason i let the game last this long is so i can research the entire tech tree. DAMN its taking forever. anyway, im at a point now where all a sudden my money fluctuates very strangly. like one turn, ill have in between -500 and 500. next turn, about -1000. next turn, about -1500. then it will all a sudden go back up to -1000, then -500 or 0 agian, then back up to 500 or 1000 or so, then drop down to -1000 again. wtf? also i noticed that when it drops like that, i fluctuated between having about 55% of the influence in the galaxy to having about 75% and back again.

thought i should let you guys know about it for next patch

oh, and i forgot to mention, that when i tried to go to government spending to try and get an explanation for this problem, sliding the bar back and forth no longer has any effect, and the number doesnt change. also ive gone through probably 3 or 4 economic booms so far, and nothing changes.

I also get the CTD with the 1.02 patch. I've found that the game will always crash when trying to display the string "[39_Message] Our story so far..." This will happens everytime and is repeatable.

(Not sure if this has already been reported, but since a) I loathe web-fora, and b) the search engine is, umm, basic, I couldn't be asked to see if had been ;)

The problem is with the minor race diplomacy screen, where using the sliders for spying and destabilising (or more accuratly the arrows at either end of the slider, as the sliders aren't shown) doesn't work for the minor race in question. Instead the sliders seem to be linked to the last major race viewed.

Which brings up the question: Is spying and destabilising supposed to work minor races?

I have what looks like a bug and this is with version .049. I spotted this in a very early game (Aug 2179?) in a medium galaxy with all bright AIs settings. An Altarian colony ship had arrived at my home system and colonized a planet and I discovered that the Altarians had only colonized one system in their home sector by then and they were four sectors away from my home system. I found later that they do not have a starbase and they had some systems in nearby sectors that they could have colonized first (and they did, eventually) but no, they sent a colony ship, their third or fourth colony ship it seems, right straight to my home sector four sectors away never mind the range limit. There is another odd thing. They had colonized a planet of class 15 in a purple star system in my home sector. I had ignored the purple star system because I thought it could not have class 15 or better planets. I was wrong! :( So not only yellow stars but other colors of stars can have class 15+ planets?! I have the save game if anyone wants to see it.

Don't know if this is a bug or not.

Early in the game I'll use colony ships to boost morale (and to make my Civ bigger) I eventually get to a point where I can't colonize any more planets for a while (range limits & such) but my population is rising & morale is dropping. My solution when it's not feasable to build morale boosting social projects, is to man colony ships & either keep them out in space until I need them (no maint cost), or simply dump the colonists into space by disbanding the colony ship. I'm playing a "good" civ & there doesn't seem to be a ethics penalty for mass genocide on your own people.

Latest version as of 4-21-2003:

When conferring with minor civs and returning to
"minor civ overview", the picture of the selected civ is wrong.

I won a UP ruling givning me a new planet (that had just been found or found to be suitable, can't remember). Anyway, this planet did not update my travel range, so I cannot send ships to it. If it produces ships itself and they are not kept in orbit, they cannot enter orbit to protect the planet.

In latest version as updated by StarDock.
XP Pro, 786 Ram
After playing for a few hours this morning ( and doing well I might add)the srceen went blank as if a system event had kicked on GalCiv to the Task Bar ... well it kept going :(

Task manager only showed my clock sync as a running process. (Thank gawd for auto save ! :CONGRAT: )

So the question .... I have added some mods, actually most of them and am wondering if maybe reinstalling and updating the orginal would work (course that would probably kill my game in process).

Also ... I will be taking the family to the beach for a short vacation, ok to load my version on the work laptop and play there, or do you want a second license?

I noticed that if I installed "Labour Unrest" even from lib, the game will crash if I try to load another saved game.
Sorry if this has been reported.

Two Bugs: Game had been running for about 6 hours and once i got terror star, started to make one. Well when I made the first part the starbase vanished. it was still "there" but there was no graphic for it and you couldnt click on it, had to put another ship there to select it. reloaded the game it worked ok. but still shouldnt have happened ya? ;)
second, defeated the carinoids by using said terror star (once it was visible) to destroy all three of their star systems. iirc got the animation saying they had been destroyed but their ships continued to attack my units after that, more than once turn afterwards, i have a saved game showing their units after they've been wiped out, if anyone wants me to email it in.

Two big buggers relating to Terror Stars:

If you nuke a star that has an empire's last base, I have had planets defect to that empire still. (In my case it was the I-League). The defecting planet becomes the capital, and when it defects back to me due to culture-bombing, the empire goes back into nothingness, but since the last-defect bug prevents the empire from being removed, the planet can defect back.

Also, after blowing a star system, a new Minor Civ showed up at the system. So, even though the star didn't display it was there. I tracked it's trade ships back, and used the production minimap to invade. It treats the planet as if it were there, even though it has been destroyed.

So, hmm... some if-checks seem to be missing.

Also, if a minor civ (such as in my first example) have been nerfed and they have no capital, on the Minor Civ screen, the game crashes (Unhandled Exception time!) since there is no capital planet to display for the civ...

Hmm... that's all for now.

Love the game, bugs and all.

I was playing latest patch last night and noticed:

1. I had a planet close to defecting and had the skull and crossbones icon on the star. I bought News Network, entertainment net, and research lab then attacked the only alien controlled civ in the sector and overtook it. My skull never disappeared. It stayed all the way through the rest of the game, ~150 turns.

2. Late in the game, I can't see ships, starbases, or techs from the diplomacy screen. The side sliders are there but there's no information. Maybe they didn't have any tech but I could see starbases and couldn't demand them for peace or select them as a trade item.

3. Planet quality slowly slid up for some planets. This isn't necessarily a bad thing and it wasn't major, but I had planets at 14 in a system with another I colonized and later I noticed they had changed to fifteen. Maybe something worth looking at.

4. Trading tech is still wacky. Why is it that if I want to trade a base level tech (Medical Theory) to a civ they won't give me more than 40 or 50 bc but if I want to get it from them they'll settle for nothing less than 2D Phasing?!? An exaggeration to be sure but not too far from the truth.

The game mentioned above was small, loose, subnormal across the board on PIII 450, 256MB RAM, W2K Pro, NVIDIA 128MB video.

Latest version:

- When a ship is lauched (automatically) from a planet and there is already a (small) freighter ship there, i cannot select the launched ship.

- In diplomacy screen. I go to the minor races tab and talk to the alexians. When i click 'done' instead of the alexians picture, i saw the picture of the altarians. Not a big problem, just strange.

Harry, did that game with the missing info in the trade screen have the UP event where tech is traded between races? I had that happen to me in my last game, all my trade goods tech (I had about 5) vanished, the slider was there but the window was empty and clicking in it did nothing. It might be a coincidence but a few turns before this happened I had one of those UP votes where tech is traded.

On another note, Frictionless Clothing isn't given any morale bonus. Tested it today, 54% planet morale before, 54% after completion, 54% the next three turns. So it just isn't giving the bonus. I need to try and make sure and test the other +morale items to see whether they give their bonuses or not, because the event looked fine in the game data file so it might be a more generic problem.

Bug where the governor will override what you selected to be built on a planet. Let's say on Earth I select an economic capital to be built. That seems to hold until I modify the governor's queue. After modification is done, then all of the planets revert to what the next entry is in the build queue and override anything I set specifically for a planet.

I think Robert Frost might have written, "Something there is that doesn't love a reload."

Loading saved games causes GalCiv to CTD, nearly all of the time; since this problem cropped up (for no apparent reason), I've managed to load a game exactly once.

I've completely reinstalled the game attempting to get around this. No go.

In addition, CTRL-N to restart a galaxy caused an immediate CTD.

I sent a savefile and galciv.exe.cra file to [email protected].

Llaamaboy (post # 165) -

It sounds like you ran into a crash. Only by successfully using SmartException (available under the software "freestuff" tab) can anything be found out about what caused the crash. Also, I remember reading in this tread somewhere that one of the mods did indeed have a problem that could cause a crash.

Uninstalling and reinstalling Galciv, if I understand the process correctly, will not remove the library mods (or any other mods that didn't modify _only_ the base modables).

Since there have been a few known CTDs (Crash To Desktop) in Galciv (without mods) mentioned in this thread, it is also possible that you have run into one of those. Only a SmartException report can give enough data to determine if this is the case.

Corwin Grey (post #166) - The last I saw the submit exception report button did not work. Posting SE reports on these forums has worked well for me in the past, or you can clip and past them into a note to the address for Galciv support.
