Playing my first game of GalCiv.. Not bad! I am enjoying it more than I thought... EXCEPT for the random crashes. These happen when I am moving my ships around (not settling or anything).. The game blanks out, then I am returned to my desktop.. All work lost.. :sniff!:

Anyone else having a problem?

Whoops, almost forgot. Currently running the newest version. The same crashing to desktop problem crops up even if I try and switch governments. When I hit "next" for the election results, back to desktop :sniff!:.
Here is that bug report.

Using CD version of GalCiv, updated from standalone 1.02.049

1. When a colony ship is loaded from a system with more than one settled planet it takes some people from each settled planet. But only the current active planet has its stats updated, the other planets will have incorrect stats showing until you click on them or come back to them later.

2. Some of the minor races seem to be immune to defection due to influence. In my last game I had the Scottlingans and Caranoids both massively influenced (over 3500 influence in the sector), and for hundreds of turns they never budged. The Alexians I took down in a normal fashion, so it's not all minor races that are immune.

3. The Happiest/Most Populated planets listed on the espionage detail list aren't updated when the planet mentioned defects (had a planet that was the Altarians happiest and most populated defect to me, and yet it kept showing in the espionage list, I looked several turns later and it was still there).

4. The various sorted planet lists that show up on the right hand side of the screen tend to pop up in an unsorted state. I.E., you look at the planets ranked by production, switch the window to something else, take a turn, then pull the window back up and the list isn't sorted correctly. It's not even the old list now out of date, it's just a mish-mash of various planets. I end up having to constantly hit the up-arrow to manually refresh the list.

5. Killing off a civ by absorbing its last planet when it defects due to your influence produces no 'This civ is toast' notification.

6. In the planet list that is available on the right-hand side of the display, the following sort types are sorted in reverse order by default: Name, Social Turns, and Military Turns. The rest are all sorted by default correctly.

I've had the same bug that others have mentioned about ships losing their attack bonus after loading a saved game.

Another thing I haven't seen reported yet is that, after loading a saved game, the hit point bonus for the ships and stations gets reset. During the first turn after loading, the hit points revert to the standard amount. After the next turn, the hit point bonus from the War Party kicks in as if I had just won the senate back.

That would be fine, except that the ships then have to repair themselves back to the new full amount every time I load up a saved game. Basically, it's like having my entire fleet of ships and space stations half destroyed each time I return to the game.

Some of my ships are invisible. They have no picture and I can not select them directly. I can move them if they are in a fleet with a non invis ship. This tends to happen mainly with late game ships like atavars and terror stars, When it happens it tends to affect all of that type of ship I build. I dont know if anyone else has this problem but I have it almost evry game.

Additional problem with my game crashing. It appears that it happens with the Galactic Senate (or something like that meets. The screen flickers (like its going to switch to a movie) and then exits to Desktop.

Latest version as of 4-19-2003

Repeating crashes, very annoying. I have managed to catch one in a savegame, let me know if you want it.

Stand alone version 1.02; medium galaxy, above normal diff.

- defeating Arceans with influence, nothing was mentioned (no sceen or anything). Same happened with the torians, who were the last ones in the game. So it might be for all races (not sure about that)

- if you conquered a race, it is still possible to make peace with them and get tribute (for many turns). Tribute over a number of turns should STOP when you don't keep your agreement or the race dies. So if i get 20 bc for 20 turns because of a cease fire, that must stop if i go to war against them.

- when in governor menu (when having the star federation government). It says: star \v federation. Probably that \v should be a 'next line command'.

- Let's say I give orders to a ship to the other side of the galaxy. And let's pretend the ship can make approx. 8 movements in a turn. Ok... after giving the orders, the ship starts moving, but if i click on an other ship before the first ship did all of its movements, the first ship stops moving. So if the first ship did 4 of its moves, and i clicked on a second ship, the first ship would do only 4 of its possible 8 moves.

- actually a suggestion: when in starbase menu (when upgrading) it would be nice if you could use your mousewheel to scroll through options

- an other suggestion: the UP event which gives transports +20 is much to strong. They can be used as cheap dreadnoughts. See this thread http://www.galciv.com/forum.asp?BID=GF&ID=44817

I had the same. Is this a bug, or are the Carinoids programmed this way? An other minor civ did defect.

Brad posted on a thread in the main forum where I mentioned this that minor races have significant influence resistance. Evidently it's -real- significant. :)

What I found weird is that apparently not all the minor civs have this resistance, as the Alexians in that game went down faster than a Tijuana prostitute to my influence, whereas the two I mentioned were living comfortably in a >3000 influence zone of mine for decades without a flutter. Maybe some minor civs are major-minors and others are minor-minors? LOL

I could be wrong but I think there is a bug in the planet quality ability. If I have it, colonize a planet and then later destroy it the planet does correctly revert to its old number... however if someone else conquers a planet I've colonized the quality does not revert.

And the AI doesn't colonize lower level planets even if it does have the planet quality ability. It's a bug that really lets me get an advantage, even at genious level.

Stand alone version 1.02; medium galaxy, above normal diff.

After capturing an enemy planet (torians) I can build dreadnoughts at that planet, even though I don't posess the required technology. This is probably the case because the planet keeps working on the project it was working on.

ps I also didn't get the dreadnought technology as a result of capturing that system. So this really is a bug.

To confirm and add to what was posted earlier, the +military production and +social production racial bonuses are not working (neither the government type or the bonus abilities, both are non-functional).

The research bonus -looks- like it isn't working if you look at your 'turns to go' value when you first start up, but this is a display error. After the first turn the 'turns to go' will correctly reflect your research bonus (e.g. you will have 16 turns to go like you would without the bonus, but after a turn goes by you'll only have 11 turns to go instead of 15). I researched 3 down the tech tree to confirm and +research definitely works.

To be thorough I tested some other abilities that seemed easy to quantify, and the economics, defense, weapons, morale (tested by how high I could move the tax slider before morale dropped below 100%), and hitpoint bonuses all work as they should.

Mike mentioned that the +50% hitpoint bonus wasn't working right when they restarted their game (ships restarted with normal hps, then on next turn the bonus kicked in resulting in damaged ships effectively), I did a save-then-load with that bonus and it worked fine (ships came back at full health with bonus hps counted), but I didn't try exitting GalCiv entirely and restarting it. Or perhaps some other factor was involved in the problem? Mike, how long had the game in question run when you noticed it? Had you ever lost control of the Senate in that game and then regained it? Some people seem to feel that process has some flakiness about it.

There seem to be a few 'takes one turn when first loading to get correct values' issues with GalCiv. Like when you start up and it says you are doing okay tech-wise when you are actually totally dominating, or when it starts you up with a screwy economy (waaaaaay into the red for no reason), or how you start with your influence not projecting correctly, stuff like that. It's like a lot of the algorithms that set values only take place at the end of a turn and thus allow a saved game to be loaded with 'plain vanilla' values instead of what your civ should actually have at that point until a turn passes.

Hello,

Like others I am also experiencing a CTD whenever the UP convenes. This bug began after I upgraded to the latest version (1.0.2.049) on April 18th. Previously, I had played 6 games and had no crashes. Sadly, no more galactic cilizations till this one is fixed. I'm including my specs and the cut-and-paste of the debug.err (which has a modification date at CTD time). I can also send in the save game that causes it, but I don't see any place I can submit a bug with attachements

I did not see this problem in this thread (I could have missed it), but since I am the only one that ever ran into the missing system planet list problem I guess I am the only one that will see this one.

The entire right side of the display failed to complete a switch from something (I think the planet list of a defection screen). The boudaries were there, but the graph, mini-view, event list, stacked ship list, and the "turn" button were all missing. Also, the "find" button was missing the right portion. I think some or all of the buttons for the graph and mini-view were also missing, but I am not sure, as the GNN research completion screen popped up before I could check everything, and when I finished with the GNN completion screen the buttons for the graph and mini-view were there.

When I finished with the project completion planet views (the planet lists worked fine), some more of the missing stuff had returned, but I had to toggle the empire planet list up and back to get the events list to a state where I could read the items. After I clicked on one of the events in the list and returned from the planet view, the item I clicked on had an overlay of two events.

After I had attempted all I could to get the missing stuff to re-appear there was still no display of graphs or mini-view (just the border and the buttons). Clicking on the graph and mini-view buttons had no affect. Even the mini-view zoom buttons did not change the galaxy display (the zoom percents did change).

Saving and reloading the game restored the display to normal.

Your not the only one, that gigantic game that messed up on me last night also had the same (or very similar) problem. I didn't report it because I wasn't sure if it was due to an overflow from my huge civilization causing game corruption. But since you got it too I'll chip in and say that it's a definite game code issue. Mine came up when I'd hit the next turn button and my various complete projects/ships came up, the right hand side that showed the system planet information was missing (so no way to set the launch population of a colony ship in orbit, for instance). Once this window went away I never found a way to get it back, so couldn't colonize or do anything that involved selecting an individual planet. Reloading fixed it as mentioned above.

Lucky, how big a game were you playing? Mine happened at the very end if a gigantic game with a huge number of colonies and 9000 billion pop, that was what I thought was causing the problem. Was your game also huge in that fashion or just a 'normal' game?

The tribute bug report I made on the previous page is partially in error. The 10bc tribute shown in the economy section of the domestic policy screen is for for a tech I bought for 10bc for ten turns. I was unaware that this was reported as tribute.

However, the stats screen errors I reported are definitly real.

Been gone for a week. Just downloaded the latest revision through SDC. Started a new game. Huge Map, Tight Clusters.

I have been getting blank events i.e, description missing and am unable to upgrade starbases. When i send a constructor to a starbase, the list of available upgrades is blank.

I noticed that one cause for crashes was an error in the LabourUnrest event. For all of you that have installed that, go into the event file and change the second line from:

EVENT Labour Unrest

to

EVENT LabourUnrest

i.e. remove the space in the event name.

This bug causes a chain reaction of related errors in the debug.err file and causes the game to crash when the UP convenes.

Whenever I do my first invasion of a game it used to show a movie where a bunch of ships shoot the crap out of a city, but now it shows the movie when a civilization is destroyed(the one where a bunch of ships fly towards a gray planet) And my last game, I had an alliance victory, but the message at the overview screen gave me the same speech as when I got a cultural victory.

There are also a lot of misspellings and stuff, but those aren't all that important.

:CONGRAT: :sniff!:

Vorlin_Varelse (post 117) - Your problem is like what I was getting in the Beta and Gamma. Cari had a devil of a time trying (unsuccessfully) to reproduce it. For a while we thought it might have been something to do with my PC or OS. So here is what I have:
My PC is an AMD 1GH, the display is a GForce2.
My OS is WinME.
My galaxy size I was using was gigantic with abundant planets, and the problem occured towards end game with a huge number of planets (over 400) and ships (over 300, almost entirely constructors).
My current game is also a gigantic with abundant planets (now over 225) and scads of ships.
