When "Mom" is Away the Kids Burn Down the JU House

When "Mom" is Away the Kids Burn Down the JU House

Wow, I go on vacation and come home to see all sorts of "stuff" going on here.  It looks as though Mikimouse is gone.  People are commenting left and right that things are getting nasty here.  Sir Peter declares war against the morons.  Wow!

So what is the cause of all of the nastiness?  My husband says I am a calming force in his life.  Maybe I can do the same here.  I just don't even know where to start.

I do see a lot of complaints regarding personal blogs vs blog "journalism".  I think this is an old subject and simply don't understand why anyone cares what is being written about in other people's blogs unless they are named personally.  I do think that people should keep "personal" blogs off the forums.  Likewise goes for any blog that you really don't want people to comment on.  Don't waste our time if you don't want our input.  You are just being a tease if you post to the forum and don't allow comments.

I personally enjoy JU and don't plan to ever leave.  I might not be on here as often as before due to my busy Summer and hopes for getting some sun.  I do enjoy popping in for an occasional quick visit whenever I get a free moment.  I hope people can be real and be civil to one another.  The rest will sort itself out.

This is giving me a headache.

Guys, repeat to yourselves: This is for fun.

Why are some of you trying to suck the fun out of things for others? This isn't some party where you have to tolerate the presence of others. You can totally avoid other people or ignore them.

And I concede - Stevendedalus is right and I'm wrong, some mommyism is needed.

some mommyism is needed.

At this point I think a serious thrashing at the hands of a mod is called for. This is beyond stupid. I don't think this sort of thing will be drawing in many new bloggers or traffic to the site.

I am thankful I am not a single mother!

I think you all at least know that I care about our JU family and truly want things to calm down.  Therefore, the naughty children need to go to their rooms for a "time out" and Mom will make some cookies

A bit of advice: the next time something in the blogosphere pisses you off, take a deep breath, count to 10, then ask yourself "is this worth my energy?"  The answer will be "no" more often than not.

With friends like that, who needs enemas? (adds smiley face for Mugz's benefit)

Thanks LW! hehehe...

*Mugz runs off singing lalalalalalalala*

BAM!!!

stevendedalus, thanks for bringing things back to subject.  I am glad you liked the title.  I missed the Draginol discussion regarding mommyism.

Greywar, I think mommy might have to open a couple of cans of whoop ass soon

Clearly, Sir Peter was promoting physical harm or injury against individuals

It is also called vilification.. If he keeps posting things about gasing gays and people with AIDS he is in for a very nasty surprise with the appropriate authorities.

Real or not real, most people arent to know that and he insights hatred and really hurts with his articles. I cant see how this is being allowed on this site.

Sorry Jill to bring this up on your thread.

Im fairly new to this as well and it seems that since I have been here there has been alot of emotions going on, Ive also met some beautiful people like Dharma who has helped me heaps.

Hopefully the fullmoon has gone and all will settle from now on.

Pheonixboi: it is beyond belief that you could read the previous few posts and still come out of the blue and bitch about Sir Peter.

Dunno about mommyism... bt if someone wants to give me admin status and the ban button I can have this problem fixed in about 2 minutes, with casualites on BOTH sides. Enough is enough. Now STFU and let JillU have her thread back.

Bakerstreet sorry but I hadnt seen the last few posts they must have come in before I posted, and Jill sorry again for that.

People really have to understand that this is the internet and it is not just confined to our loungerooms there is a wide audience out there of real people with real feelings and emotions and just because most seem to be hiding behind masks of nic names doesntmean what they are saying doesnt hurt, joke or no joke.

Yeah I agree with Dragnol this is supposed to be fun but when the slander and threats come out then it needs to be taken seriously.

If you don't like what people have to say, don't read their blogs. If you have a "real" problem, email the powers that be. If they don't administrate the site to suit you, find another site. How is this so complicated?

Sir Peter is... well... Sir Peter. I'm not sure how you guys overlook the billionaire aristocratic stuff and then get soooooo upset when he says something you don't like. Geez, in for a penny, in for a pound. I think if you take any of it with a grain of salt, you ougghta take it all that way.

If this were a workplace or a playground you people would know exactly what to do. I call for an immediate cease-fire and suggest the banning of the next person that starts something.

"Don't start no sh*t, there won't be no sh*t", to quote the urban vernacular... though I'd take it a step further and say don't entertain any sh*t at all, whether somone else started it or not.

This too shall pass.

That's all I have to say about that.

For now, though, we should keep the matches out of the reach of the children and make sure there are plenty of fire extinguishers around.

but id have you for a friend any day of the week

Right back at ya!

Dharma, people will either forgive and forget or simply move on.  Either way, like you said, "This too shall pass."

Amen, Little Whip.

And, Jill, thanks for being the matriarch, hopefully restoring sanity and ending Draginol's headache.

Stevendedalus, I think Draginol will have a constant supply of headache inducing material

As a mom, I am well familiar with the fact that even the best of kids can be cranky monsters sometimes.  Things just seem to escalate far faster online than in the real world.  The problem being, you have a bad day, say something nasty, everyone in the communtiy is there to jump all over it.  In the real world, you have a bad day, say something nasty, chill out for a while, then make nice.  Online things get escalated to a point where making nice is no longer an option.

I'm not saying I think this is good, bad or even if I think there is anything that can be done about it.  I do think pride gets in the way of people just walking away and moving on.  I also think that people form opinions to quickly and too all encompassing.  I personally try to judge each new blog on its own merits whether or not I had a bad interaction with the author.  Sure, if I quickly find that no matter what the person writes, I get irked, I avoid that author.  I don't, however seek to have them sent packing (unless they are being griefers).

But that is just my opinion.  I am pleased to see that my opinion is often welcome around here.

Let's all make nice ^_^

Seems simple, doesn't it?

Maybe I'm just naive but I never noticed all of the negative things you spoke of. I have a strange feeling it has a lot to do with frustration over the war in Iraq though. I could be wrong but that's my hypothesis.

Capt. over and out!

Looks like one particularly large child has managed to reach the matches again....somebody'd better call the fire department on this one.....

I think if the site were truly interested in such, the discussion "Masks on JU exposed" should be closed. The author has openly stated that the only purpose was to "expose" or otherwise attack another member here at JU. It is that thread that has caused much of the problem.

If JU thinks Sir P. isn't to be taken any differently than anyone else, then by all means deal with him. If, as I think the administration does, JU feels that Sir P. is a fictional character and a form of expressive entertainment and parody, I don't think there is any need for there to be protest movements against him, since there is no 'him'..

Either way, this is something that can best be dealt with by administration, not by vigilante efforts to expose and humiliate. For that reason, I think "Masks on JU exposed" does more harm than good. Sir P. has just done what he has always done, the author and others involved in the aforementioned effort are the ones causing the turmoil at present.

Have you not seen the progression?  He's gone from being mildly funny to really offensive.

You can go on about the parody and him being a muppet all you want to, my point is still that there is a person, a real live human behind the parody and the mask. The character only says and does what the writer tells him to do.

At what point is 'parody' taken too far?  Will it be when he hits a particularly sensitive subject with you, Baker?

That will be interesting to see. I agree with you Dharma there is a person behind the persona. Otherwise is it just miraculously manifesting itself? This person seems mentally disturbed, and Bakerstreet seems to want to now censor my thread in order for this character to continue his reign of hate on this site, all in the name of entertainment? Well im certainly not entertained by descriptions of wife bashing, gasing or nazis.

Should I demand that professional wrestling be banned because of the heinous violence I see there? People are assaulted and abused constantly on the WWE, women are abused. What would you think of someone who ranted their outrage that such awful things were occuring on their TV? How is Sir P. much different? Wrestling has it villains spouting hateful things, too. Are those wrestlers awful people, or do they just play one on TV?

I dislike most Rap music. They talk about killing people, abusing and degrading women, acting as antagonists to the police and society as a whole. Should I have the right to tell a store I am in that they can't play the music? Do I have the right to insist that the radio be changed when I am in someone else's car? No, I can decide not to ride with them next time, or go to a different store.

Who are you to say Sir P. doesn't have a right to post on my blogs? I deleted one of his posts the other day because I thought it was tasteless, and told him so, and had he done it again I would have blacklisted him. Whenever that happens, he always reacts well and I have never had to ban him once. It isn't my job, though, to tell him what he can post on OTHER PEOPLE'S blogs. That is what you are essentially trying to do.

I don't like what you write, Pheonixboi. Sometimes the way you express your "Poz" lifestyle is disturbing and beyond the pale of taste to me. Should I be allowed to say that you aren't allowed to post on OTHER PEOPLE'S blogs, out of fear I might accidently read your opinions? Wouldn't that be up to the owners of those blogs?

If this was a case of a neo-nazi spreading hateful propaganda, he'd eventully get banned for his conduct, not his opinions. So far they all have, and I have delighted in it. No one with half a brain would believe that Sir P. is a real person, though; the story is posed far, far too "out there", and purposely so. If he made himself more believable, then the hateful and bigotted comments might be taken as real attempts to harass or offend.

I think the hand behind Sir P. has made every attempt to let people know that this is parody. If he has been abusive to you, ignore it or report it to an admin. This "war" is stupid, and you are acting far more like the people than normally get exiled than he does. I'm not too surprised that Pheonixboi would act like this, but I would have expected more out of Dharma.

I think what should be most telling is, for virtually every popular post on this site, he comes up with a parody post. Perhaps that's what annoys people most, is that his post tends to play up the ridiculity of an argument that is dear to them.

As I have said before, I don't find his approach particularly amusing; it is often banal, occasionally hilarious, and usually worth the read. One of the reasons he seems to be a "one trick pony" is, his targets are often aimed at those who take themselves far too seriously.
To me he is this site's "Triumph the Dog", or professional wrestling villain. On the one hand he can really, really annoy you, but wouldn't you feel idiotic for taking him this seriously?

Pheonixboi reminds me of someone that would go off and physically assault some poor wrestler because he thinks that somehow the villain schtick is real. Come back to reality, folks. Those guys aren't really beating each other senseless and Sir Peter isn't really influencing international politics and killing Russian mail-order brides.

Bakerstreet If you feel like you have to attack me personally then please contact me personally ... let me remind you I am not a persona or character but real person. You see the difference between me and you is that you live your life behind words, and I live my life. I have the balls to stick up for what I believe in, you seem to find it funny to laugh about human suffering.

Bakerstreet you remind me of a closet queen who does the beats, but has a carrot stuck so far up his ass that he cant bare to lower himself to understand the viewpoints of those who might be hurt by what others say about them.
