My version differs from other players version

Whenever I install and run Sins, my ingame version listing is vb5.0. My stardock lists it as 0.90[b].034. Now when I go to connect to a game, I can't since my version doesn't match up with what my brother is running. He's running the same Stardock version, but in game he's got vb5.1.

I've uninstalled and reinstalled and still have vb5.0. This is on XP SP2, on a Vista SP1 build, it still is the vb5.0. I've asked others in the lobby and they have the 5.1 version as well.

I've searched the forums and if I've missed an obvious answer I apologize, but this one is very much confusing me. I appreciate any help and your time for reading this.

I think if we both have the wrong version, maybe we can play each other :O

Problem is, the issue appears to be degradative -- its getting worse as time passes.

It's fixed now. Anyone having issues should re-download the game from the US-1 server (US-2 is still syncing).

I tried and got an "Excessive Activation (#) Error". Beta Error: 6.

What is the deal?

means you've updated too many times, it continues to work but they want you to stop uploading it to your friends :P

speaking of which I want that problem reset on my account, I've been bounced between computers and the message only BEGINS on my best machine, pfft.

Yeah, I'd love to know how that problem occurred.

Done. Oddly enough the IP never changed so the error strikes me as strange to say the least.

Activation isn't based only on IP. :P  Still, I thought we'd fixed this issue so I'll bring it up to the powers that be again.

As for what went wrong, I'm still not 100% certain. It looks like something got locked so some data wasn't copied over. The really wierd part is that the download actually should have failed to install with a CRC error.

Yarlen, may I (strongly) suggest that you SD guys make figuring out what went wrong a priority?

Speaking as a techie, I'm very curious about the nuts and bolts behind the particular error -- I'm sure it will make a fascinating read when you get around to releasing the details, if you ever do.

Speaking as a consumer, thats a very large turn-off, which would likely make me seek out other options for my money if it ever became habitual. And if it weren't for the fact that I'm (very) well aware that SD turns out quality products, it'd probably be a turn off if it happened just once or twice.

Probably human error (mine) and no, we won't be releasing details of it. The entire backend is being rebuilt anyway so it's nothing to worry about.

I'm beginning to feel like we've stumbled down down down the rabbit hole into... some sort of secret government agency...
doing tests on the strategic space decisions of children?

Who would want to kidnap a East Coast prick? Washington has plenty of those already :P

When I'm allowed, I'll post some screenshots of the new application that will be replacing SDC on Sins' release (it'll be on the DVDs). :)

Hehe, but what about those of us who are doing digital downloads? :P
Reply #48 Top
In theory, you'll get it too (or you can keep using SDC) - you'll just need to download it. ;)

OK, but do me a (huge) favor:
