Multiplayer

So it says up to 10 players in multiplayer. Does this mean its like starcraft where everyone picks a race and the fun begins? or are people of the same race on the same team ? that last question seems pretty stupid but you never know.

Each player can be whichever race they like and teams can be setup before the game starts.

How will you allow for a degree of Uniqueness amongest the different Factions, or will they all be the same as the other members of the same faction? ie all TEC are the same, all advent and vasari are just like other advent and vasari.

I think he means more if every Advent player is on a team vs. every TEC player.

As far as I can tell, it doesn't look like that is the only option.

Wraith, if you were responding to me, I was trying to ask, how will each side be unique. What i mean is if there are three TEC players, will the only way you will know which is which is by what color and name they have? Will those three TEC player be identical in every way except where they are in the game, what they have in terms of territory and tech, and how they play? I could understand older games like Star Craft and WC3 and the like since they really had to worry about the limits of hte technology they had to make the game. For todays games, there should be a few minor ways to give to a player a sense that the forces he has are unique, yes there are other TEC factions out there but it is more like the way our race is today. Yes, we are all humans, but we have divergent blood lines, the most basic of which are I think Asiatic, African, Middle Eastern, Caucasian, Naitive American, and Pacific Islanders, I think.... Well anyway, you get the point. We are each a little different, however we are all basiclly the same.

I was just wondering if in a MP match will there be 3 seperate races with clones, or will we be able to do a small amount of custumization either pre-game, or through in-game elements so that it wont just be clones fighting clones of another race.

well your ships to get experience, that can be used on eg. carriers for more fighter/bombers and more.
Try and look at races here. And you can do alot to make them more in the way you feel useing them.

hope that helps

So ok your not going to be locked on a team if your the same race, thats good. That's really all I was wondering about, hey thanks

I'll be a damn bother to balance if everything wasn't equal. I don't think there'll be team colours or anything, but something like identifiers on the user interface or tactical user interface.

Inert - It wouldnt be all that difficult my man, atleast not anymore diffiult then anything else( mind I myself have no "official" balanceing experience), what you would do is something similar to what MOOII did, that being give a stock option page for the race bonuses for everyone and a few tech tree options in game that once you go down one path, you begin to lose options for the other paths. Fairly simple. Perhaps the side wont be drasticly different but it would be enough. However, once the beta comes out, there will be much more to talk about and most ideas will most likely have to be changed.

Each faction, if you will, has their own icon to distinguish them and there's an option for team colors. Two TEC players would have access to the same ships depending on where they put their research, etc. since they're playing the same race.

Thanks Yarlen, cleared that up for me

Further clarification please... What you are saying is that if 2 people both choose to be the TEC, and are on the same team. They will have different icons and their ships will be of different color to tell them apart? Or will "team colors" be more of a effect that when you select an allied ship it will have a different color selection highlight around that ship, rather than the selection color around your own ships?

I think I made that above question/statement confusing...

I think an icon represents every race, but the icon will be different colors based on your country's color.

quick question: I can understand Advent being their own seperate governments (they are completely asswhooping, they dont have to worry about being overrun) but the Vasari and TEC have so much difficulty surviving that I can't see them in seperate factions, especially fighting one another. (as in TEC vs. TEC or Vas vs. Vas)

I could deal with that, thanks schem...

This is where "IT'S A GAME" comes in. Meh, it don't make sense, but it will still be fun, focus on tha I guess.

That's why the Trader Emergency Coalition was formed, but there are always those who don't agree with policies of that organization. Imagine a world that has massive industrial output that refuses to join the coalition but is annexed by the rest of them anyways because they deem it neccessary to fight the war. Imagine worlds that did join but are now questionning the ever increasing powers of the Coalition's ruling group. Imagine a world that was sacrificed for a broader military strategy. It doesn't take much for groups to differ on policies, especially when so much is at stake. And this doesn't just apply to the TEC. Surely, there are those in the Vasari camp who feel they should cut their losses and try elsewhere and not all the Advent are as "inline" as one might first think given their social structure.

sorry i'm new, will the MP have coop missions? What HW and GR did wrong is have a single dimention MP. (They only have deathmatches). Please dont tell me that Sins would be the same .
Well Sins MP is not deathmatch as such, but its not co-op either. You don't start the game at war (unless you want to), you can trade, make alliances etc, or of course declare war. Basically there are more ways to win than just killing everyone else.

But from the buzz on the forums, that seems to be what most people want to do.

Sins is not a persistent universe right?
Nope, each game is self contained and ends once the victor has been established.

I'm also assuming the game can be paused and saved should any player need to leave.

Here, this gives insight into multiple aspects of the game, including MP.

Ok now i'm nervious, MP game would take forever then. (i only get around 30-50 minutes of gametime on my comp). This is the main reason why I didn't like swords of the stars. If it was a persistent universe then the mechanic would be understandable. But a server based???!!!!

This is like DarkSpace all over again.

Read the 1up preview, games will last anywhere from 30 minutes to a full week, depending on the starting variables.
