Beta ETA

Beta ETA

Hi all

first post here, got wind of the game just a few days ago and have been very impressed with the info thats available so much so that ive pre-ordered the game, and downloaded the stardock file manager, ok straight forward enough, im a bit concerned about the actual release date,

at first reports from the forum and the web suggested a release date of this month for the beta, now i am seeing next month being mentioned

understanding that it is a game still in development with a full release date of winter 07, I would love to hear some info on how the beta is progressing, (perhaps a sins of a solar empire developer blog???) and how close we are to a public beta release, if theres any developers reading this let us know what you think, especally about the developer blog, it could be a great idea

thanks all

As others have said, if you miss beta 1 and pre-order later, you'll have to wait until beta 2 before you'll be able to try out the game. If you miss beta 2, you'll have to wait until the final version is released. Beta 2 is set for this spring.

brain.....hurts.......

wait.. so I can still get into the first BETA if I pre-order the day of and or a few days after the first beta comes out? I just don't wanna miss the first beta, and I still need 3 more weeks till I can order...

Safe bet, yes.

I wasn't really planning on pre-ordering till the beta is announced to come out on a specified date, but nice to hear there'll be some post beta release entry leeway. Knowing my luck, I'll lapse in my visits to the site, and somehow miss the announcement.

The Beta should be out sometime in Feb 2007, we are ALL very excited, as this game seems to have a combo of Homeworld goodness and GalCiv empire building.

I wasn't to happy with that GalCiv myself. I downloaded the demo of the 2nd one. If this is anything like Homeworld, I will be VERY VERY happy with the game. I really enjoyed HW and do have to say I was good at it. Then again that was what...4 or so years ago!

I will also pre-order this game. I just ordered all my new parts for a new computer and would like to test it out on something like this.

Being my first post I would like to say it does look VERY impressive. Just curious what is meant by the empire building...should I play the GalCiv more or what?

Since you played homeworld its probably best to draw a comparison to that. Homeworld was about taking your fleet and engaging other fleets. Essentially, your mothership was your homebase and there were resource units floating around. When you defeated the other fleet the game was over.

In Sins, your home base is initially a planet and you build stuff on the surface and in orbit. This would include things like cities, mining facilities, resource buildings, orbital defense, ship factories and so-on. You then build up potentially many fleets and fly them around the solar system(s) to fight, explore what is out there (more than just enemy fleets), to conquering and colonizing new planets, and whatever else you want them to do. Losing one of your fleets is not the end of the game. There are also plenty of non-combat options to play with when your ships aren't busy. Trade networks, research, diplomacy and so-on.

Your empire is your collection of colonies and everything you own is used to grow and maintain it. Homeworld style combat is just one of many tools to 'build your empire".

Thanks B, that thoroughly explains a lot. Just got done watching the trailer. It does look amazing and by the way it looks; the different planets in other galaxies blew my mind. That looks as if it could be quite a challenging game.

So I take it you don't start out with a mothership like in Homeworld? But you actually build from a point where you are on the planet first? Then in a sense start building your stellar buildings and so on? If that makes sense...

Your home planet starts with some basics down on the surface (you don't actually go down) which are effectively selectable upgrades and there are some basic buildings and ships in orbit. Once you've built up your empire enough you may choose to build ships that have many similarities to a hw2 mothership. However, in Sins, it is usually the case that nothing is more important than your home planet so protect it!

homeworld

I played Homeworld, good game. But the battles at times could be underwhelming with smallish fleets shooting at each other, plus the plot was underdeveloped, I reckon Sins will be better.

Makes sense, a homeworld is gonna be the most economically developed worlds with its colonies less so. I prefer this idea to Homeworld's Mothership

Me too.....I changed right after honest.

Blair,

So will harvesting of resources be done both on the planet and in space? I just noticed you work for the company

I saw a post on here about resources as well...and a picture on the website, looks as if there are some kind of amethyst (crystal), water (maybe has to do with research), metal, gold...

You get it sooner than if you would go to the store.... But also! You don't have to pay taxes on it!

I am going the way of digital download AND have them ship me the game!

I bought some tokens or whatever and am trying to figure this out...I want the CD and as well as the digital download. I don't think that option was available though. Damn...can I still get the CD?

If you order the cd version, you can also get the digital download

But the ordering of the cd. Is more to get my hand on the manual, and to show of with the box

Oh and blair, or yarlen or who ever can tell me. What is in the cd box? (doh yeah the cd) but will there be a poster or something?

Is this going to be formatted to be on a Widescreen monitor as well? I just ordered a 22" Sceptre...along with alot of new components to build a comp.

I want to refund my tokens and order the cd. Guess i'll send an email to that [email protected]

I would assume that you would have a manual, maybe a tech tree map some misc advertisements for upcoming games...who knows?

I recall someone said it supports widescreen!
