New Forum Layout!

New Forum Layout!

Allow me to be the first to comment on the new forum layout.

I was kind of taken by surprise because I couldn't access the forum for a few minutes, then suddenly an entirely different layout was before me. It was a shock to the system, as any sudden change can be.

While it will probably take me a little while to adjust, I like it, frankly. The layout is more consistent with many message boards, and will allow me to search some of the forums more quickly. Plus, by putting the name of the most recent reply (as in a message board format), it will save me the time spent going back to articles that I replied to most recently.

It's different, sure, but I think it's put in some good differences, and, to someone already familiar with message boards, it's not THAT different.

All in all, I think it's a good change. Nice work, crew!

Hello, jennifer1, It should be 50x50 pixels at 72 dpi. perhaps if you still continue to have some trouble, send me the image and I'll have a look to make sure it's not a format internally that is not supported. You can send it to [email protected].

I really don't like them, just like I really don't like them over on Wincustomize. My biggest gripe is I can no longer see the 5-6 most recently commented on articles. You have to head to each section now. Much more time consuming, much less user friendly. Especially when there are a ridiculous number of sub forums like there are here.

Alright. So I was a little hasty n hot-tempered in my initial response. i spent half an hour or so playing with it and... well, actually I'm starting to like it.

So I take back the bit about fixing what wasn't broke. But every thing I said about rubber-necked tech heads stands.

One thing I don't like with this new layout: The old forum remembered the last reply you read on a thread and started you there when you checked it again. This new one doesn't seem to do that.

It does for me. I like many things, but my pet peeve is what Bluedev pointed out.

Hmm, I wonder why it doesn't for me? I agree about what Bluedev said too.

I like the new 'view all recent posts' feature. That's pretty handy.

But you can't post anymore using Safari, which is annoying. That's running Safari 2.0 with all the most recent updates.

So considering I have to use Firefox (I don't use it for anything else) the inconvenience kind of detracts from that really good feature. Some of the icons don't appear for me either - such as the icons above the post box and the picture icons for members.

I just noticed the same thing. Guess I won't be blogging as much...

Yes, I must say the more poking around I do, the more I like it too, and I am getting over the fact I can't see the list of latest articles on each channel on one page at a glance.

I find the "Add a reply" tool bar far friendlier(spelling)and it works all the time where as the one before - not always. (a spell checker - would not go amiss for forgetful old sods like me)

I love the part at the bottom that gives out all the stats and tells you whose on line.

The bit at the bottom that allows you to delete all cookies created by the forum.

The ability to put my icon picture on so easily - the click of a button(not that I have, Dark Stars going to help me there, I can't get the picture right)

Lots of "nice" extra bits and bobs that are easier to use. (Some of them may have already been here(I do not know), if they were, they weren't friendly enough for pc dummy me!

Thanks guys! Job well done! I am a happy Joeuser!

I dont like it.

I now have to remember what CATEGORY a certain article was posted in, because if it hasnt been one of the most very recent ones to recieve activity it's hidden behind the category link.

that sucks.

It also refuses to let me sign Simon out, and shows him as active even though Ive been online for over an hour now. I was only able to access my blog by going to it through my IE favorites list, and it let me log in there, but to change access from the top toolbar in this layout seems impossible.

It doesn't seem to tell if a user is anonymous.

Things I like:

1. cleaner looking
2. Last posted info is GREAT

I can't comment on the forum posts now.

I'm having problems as well - although this isn't totally new for me. Sometimes I go to the forums and I can reply. Other times I can't. Maybe I'm just flakey???

I also liked seeing recent articles under each category instead of having to going into the cat. Just me though.

We're still making a number of changes to them. There's a number of usability and navigational things we need to work out still.

I just got on this a while ago, so I am going to explore a bit to see what I think about it.
I see that there are mixed opinions on this new appearance.

I have been trying to upload a personal icon, it keeps telling me the upload was successful, but he picture has been corrupted? the pic is a jpeg, so not sure what I am doing wrong, any ideas?

I tried too and have the same problem...

On some articles....like the sex before marriage one...there are 42 comments on it and I can only read the first 29.  There isn't a page arrow or anything, so I can't read the other comments.

my complaint, also....

it does all look "cleaner", though....

Yes Dark Star uploaded mine for me via his site thingy. He said there is a broken link in the upload process somewhere and they are fixing it. It should be up and running soon.

Again I want to say thank you for sorting out my icon pic for me Dark Star, very helpful of you and it is much appreciated.
