New Forum Layout!

Allow me to be the first to comment on the new forum layout.

I was kind of taken by surprise because I couldn't access the forum for a few minutes, then suddenly an entirely different layout was before me. It was a shock to the system, as any sudden change can be.

While it will probably take me a little while to adjust, I like it, frankly. The layout is more consistent with many message boards, and will allow me to search some of the forums more quickly. Plus, by putting the name of the most recent reply (as in a message board format), it will save me the time spent going back to articles that I replied to most recently.

It's different, sure, but I think it's put in some good differences, and, to someone already familiar with message boards, it's not THAT different.

All in all, I think it's a good change. Nice work, crew!

I don't think I like it, but I'm not sure yet. It just looks really odd to me.

TW,

I HATED the forum layout we just changed from when they first implemented it, but I got used to it. I'm not crazy about the new scheme from a design standpoint, but there are aspects of it that are much more user friendly than the "old" design. I imagine if we give it time, they'll polish up some of the design elements.

It was a glitch at my end...now I can post.

I don't like the catagory titles...they aren't bold and larger font...so it all looks the same.  Which makes reading it more difficult.

Like the colors though.

Nice and clean, almost retro look is complemented by sleek and quick tool and option menus.

Thumbs up.

What is the big fat check mark for? Some of my articles have them and some don't. The one on the far left.

I think it looks ok, what I don't like is the usual catgories that were at the begining are now in alph order so I am now forced to look thru the whole page to find the usual categories. All in all it seems OK, just some getting us to I guess.

How do I get the picture thing again?

Also I don't like having to go all the way up to the top of the article to hit "quote" when I am responding to an article...that's a bummer. UPDATE...got the quote on every reply now..guess they are working it...I'm starting to like it better and better!

Ya. Another vast improvement along the lines of 'it ain't broke so we'll fix it'. Goddamn tech-head rubber-necked dweebs - can't leave anything alone. It looks worse, it runs slower, it throws out more 'exceptions', and it's less intelligible on an intuitive basis.

Way to go, people.

How do you read articles with lots of responses?  Like I went to an article with 40 responses but could only read 29 and there wasn't anything on the bottom for me to click to the next page.

Sorry for all the questions.....if you figure it out let me know, I can't be the only computer/blog navigation retard here.

I dunno...I found a button to click to other pages on my display. Not sure what's happening with you.

Ok, question...how do I add a picture, like by my name? That has been driving me crazy for a long time.

zoologist,

I saw it discussed once before. I think you have to do it through a WinCustomize account or something.

Tova, emp, got answer on that one?

I did it but honestly once I did it, forgot how. I do know I had to go to another stardock site to do it.

Sorry.

Go to 'My Account' link at the top and then click on 'Update Images' tab and you should be able to upload your icon from there.

Withholding judgement for now.  It is different.

I don't think JU has a link for it

It does, right at the top next to your Nickname

It comes and goes, when I first saw it I thought I had a virus or someone was playing a joke, I did not know what to make of it. I shut down and re-opened to the same thing then spotted Gids Thread and cottoned on! Slow aren't I?

Anyways I shutdown again and re-opened in the old version?

It has a lot of improvements but the one thing I don't like is - I have to go thru each channel to see whats there, whereas the last vers I could spot what had been updated in each channel upto the minute. No worry though.
