Warhammer 40K

Is here already W40K mod for GC2?

Hi all, I would like to create W40K mode for Galactic Civilizations 2 or download some, if it already exists? If not, i will continue working on it (I have only race specifications and pictures of races and logos till now) but i would really like to create or play quality mod including races from W40K (Space Marines, Eldars, Tyranids, Chaos,Imperial Guard, Orcs,Tau,Necrons and Witch Hunters) including much more from the Warhammer universe (like dialogs, pictures and planets/stars names, also ships designs and also research like warp traveling, heavy bolters, psyker abilities etc).My only dilema is which of the fractions of each race I should choose (I guess there cant be so many fractions for each race like in Warhammer). If there is any other W40K fan who would eb able to help my in creating this mod, I would be very gratefull for ANY help or advice

Been reading alot of WH40k literature lately from the Black Library. I've read the Space Wolf Omnibus, as well as the Ultramrine ones. I am reading Let the Galaxy Burn now, and Eisenhorn and Soul Drinkers are next (all omnibuses).

Been playing DoW: Dark Crusade alot as well (excellent game). I am curious about this mod. I will have to check it out.

needs updating for DA

scrub your book list and start with the gaunts ghost novels

then cut to the soul drinker ones

then read the ciphas cain ones

then spent two weeks washing in holy water and reciting W40k is not real, i am impervious to the lure of chaos and tatto holy sigils on yourself. Then you can read the eisenhorn omnibus in one go. it is fantasic but you might start hearing a kind of scratching chittering noise just at the edge of sound.

you've been warned

Ahahahahha

That's funny.

I am reading Let the Galaxy Burn right now.. and the Soul drinkers is next.. I am looking for the other omnibuses now... it's alot easier that way.

Have you tried DoW: Dark Crusade???

I am shocked by how little you people know about the 40k universe while trying to make a mod. I have been playing warhammer for nearly 20 years, probably longer than most of you have been alive. Most of you have no clue what you are talking about.

Everyone that even thinks they know the 40k universe should read every article on wikipedia.org. Start with the imperium of man.

just to get you started let me make one thing clear. Space marines and Imperial guard ARE THE SAME RACE. its called the Imperium. The imperial guard is like the modern army or national guard, space marines are like *shock* the US marines. They have different chains of command, abilities, equipment, and training but they both take orders from the segmentum lords and holy terra.

So if you want to make a mod, for the emperors sake, do some research first.
ps. orks are actually a fungus, look it up!

Big man, move out of your parents house, get a city centre job, cut the hair and get yourself a girlfriend and i don't mean a ginger vampire wannabe who like poetry and beleives in magic.

You can't make a perfect 40k mod in this game. People want tyranids but tyranids don't colonise so all you can do is make some sort of genestealer cult and use the dreadlord ships to make them look Nidy.

I would suggest that while marines and gaurd are the same race (although human vs superhuman?) they operate autonomusly so while the main race replacing humans in GC2 should be "the imperium" you would still have the scope to play space marines as a custom race.

Why oh why oh why is it that canon nazis are so against people having fun. Its not real and you can bend the story as uch as you like. When you get boardgame fundamentalists things like 9/11 or Bush II happen.

SO CALM YOUR DRUIDY ARSE DOWN UNLESS YOU WANNA KNOCK UP YOUR OWN MOD!

On a lighter less knee jerk ranting tirade of preacher hating note.

I have spent the morning knocking up a DA compatible 40 k mod and apart from the horrifc spelling errors it looks pretty good.

now if i could just get the dam titan invasion working!

oh and races?
Imperium
Chaos Rebels
Craftworld Eldar
Kroot
Black Skull orks
Squats
Genestealr cults
Grim skar orks (with extra back story to justify trade)
Tau
Blood Pact
Dark Eldar
Necrons

think thats about right?

ah who cares tis but a game

good work man.....

I'll check it out.

Seems to work - Hurrah

but DA crashes sporadically (yeah thats right nothing to do with my meddling) it's easy to swap stuff round with this game anywho.

Its funny how you can mindlessly attack a person with wild accusations without even having met the person. I guess you quick wit is supposed to make up for your lack of informaion and weak modding ability.

You can't make a perfect 40k mod in this game.

No, YOU can't make a perfect 40k mod in this game. You can however make a close Facsimile and at least get at least the basic information correct. Your mod is just a bunch of ripped off pictures and names you made up. Its like making a Star Wars mod and calling him Darth Cheddar.

A perfect example of your lack of understanding. Tyranids don't classicly "colonise" a planet but they do build structures, absorb resources, and create new weapons and spaceships from those resources. They are also masters of terraforming and using inhospitable planets as bases, all of which fits into the game quite easily. One the other hand Marines NEVER colonise new planets and almost exclusivly recruit from a limited planetary genepool. An entire marine chapter could barely hold a handful of planets let alone a galaxy. Space marines should be made a ground invasion tech upgrade for the imperium rather than a separate race.

I've been playing WH fantasy Battle, 40K,and Bloodbowl longer than you... so chill.

PUH-LEASE! Realm of Chaos came out it 1990, Warhammer came out in '83 and I bought my first copy in '85. My first space marines chapter was the Blood angles from an ORIGINAL Rogue trader box set in '87. Yeah I'm that old, just ask my kids.

Why oh why oh why is it that canon nazis are so against people having fun. Its not real and you can bend the story as uch as you like. When you get boardgame fundamentalists things like 9/11 or Bush II happen.

I'm sorry, how exactly does someone criticizing your 40k mod relate to political events? Why does someone have to turn every dissagreement into a political debate. Apparently you don't have any factual basis to make objections to my arguments so you are lashing out by calling me a bush supporter and a nazi. Clearly you have lost what little self control you had to begin with. So I suggest you "CALM YOUR DRUIDY ARSE DOWN" as you so eloquently put it.

And let me remind you that you are purporting to have a "Warhammer 40k" mod. Not a "Warhammer 40K as seen through the eyes of Maddybadger" mod. And as such I am within my right to comment that it is flawed.

Sadly.. so have I. I did have to take a few breaks here and there because real life got in the way.

Not denying the personal comments? hit a nerve have i.

The political thing? you've proved that yourself with two jihad essay's "burn the infedl who creates that which is not sanctioned! the correct spelling of Aun is more important than enjoyment!"

I, like the lack of information thing, its funny that you've set down cast iron laws in a universe that changes to suit the corporate whims of GW. Hmmmmm eldar not selling well I know lets bring out a new command model rip up the background and event the Autarch, Yriel's not a pirate or an admiral oh no he was always an autarch!

You might also notice that the original mod clearly stated "cobbled togethor BETA" everyone wanted a MOD but nobody knows how to do it, depressing cause itis relatively easy.

I don't doubt that you have dedicated your life to 40k and fantasy and Man O'War (ah back in the day) you sound like you have.

Maybe you could sit down with your kids (assuming your family is not a cardboard cut out to replace the void of lost human contact in your life) and ask them if you act old? if you've lost the fun and could they do you a quick wallchart on how to calm down.

I'll start you off - deep breaths and repeat it is only a game, it is only a game. Hmmm might do that myself.

Thats nuts,

I think a redhead who wants to a be vampire and is into magic and poetry would be a total babe!!! I know I got one (but she doesnt want to be a vampire - shes a psychiatrist instead!

Honestly its funny to say, but if there is a nerdy girl thats into 40k then no offence lol (but every goofball guy on this forum squabbling about 40k race history would fight to the death over her lol)

YOU KNOW ITS TRUE
Oh for the record, i think this is only a 40k mod if it sticks to canon history (otherwise its some guys version of 40k which is charmingly introspective but pointless...)

Also Maddybadger cooomme on - stop it with the personal BS on that guy legion. Sure he might be a tightass with the ol' canon BUT...

one nerd trying to criticise another nerd for lack of social life is like me criticising a stripper for her lack of morality... it just doesnt stick on a forum dedicated to a supremely nerdy sci-fi strategy game.

So get a grip Dr. Cool

Strippers might have a sense of morality. I don't see stripping as immoral.

My point is that we have about a million people arguing over the 40k cannon which is much more loose and bendy than people seem to think.

I remember white dwarf deciding to stick to cannon history to flesh out some space marine chapters decding they couldn't find anything and so making it up, it's where salamanders using tons of flame weapons comes from. And now ths is law? It is nuts folk need to calm down. It dosen't matter if you've been into this for 20 years, although i think mr legion protestist too much about his age and ancient wisdom and how he has kids and how he is old and his ancient wisdom and how old he is.

I owuldn't have dircted people to wikipedia, theres like 2 guys who montior those atricles and only put up the stuff they sanction. I'd have direct ed people to 2nd edition codexs from back in the day when codexs had something in them.

Its a 40k mod if it is set in the 40k universe with 40k races. It was originally meant to be the great crusade (which is how i play it) cause i had just read the horus heresy books and wanted a galactic civil war. But then the game has trading so had to get round that, hence chaos and genestealers are portrayed as corrupt human empires and orks have the blood axes comming out of hiding following the big party where they all got slaughtered.

Look at dawn of war, they made up a whole new chapter and a whole new craftworld for that, so presumably it's not a 40k game and the Soul Drinker novels add a new 2nd founding imperial fist successor so that msut not be a 40k book cause it's not cannon.

Its infinately mutable it's not a fixed regime, its ultimately there to flog you toy soldiers so GW can make big bucks and its share holders can be happy.

Has anyone seen zoolander? at the end when will ferrel goes nuts about ben stiller being dumb and completly obsessed with trivia and nobody noticing? I KNOW HOW HE FEELS!

Oh, and personal comments are funny, seriously they are.

Oh yeah, there is a nerdy (slightly odd) ginger girl who thinks she is a vampire who lives in macclesfield cheshire and frequents (still as far as i know) the macclesfield GW.

Good luck to anyone who wants to take a go. I'd buy black candles first and try to trick her into comming round for a seance or such.

I used to work with her p beofre i got a proper job and have no time, all this responding to forum posts it getting billed to some poor old geezers file as "prep and perusal"

Not read the whole thread, because debates over the racial seperation of Marines and IG is pointless in my view.

So could you not implement a system where we have race specific research?
Say for The Imperium, we have as part of Planetary invasion, the option of creating space marines? And say stages, like Genetic enhancment, Lightning armour, power armour, space marine legions.. etc.. so when we get to Space marine legions, we then get the option of building Space marine battle barges?

For orks it could be similar, but with say Bad moon Nobz or somesuch... We could just unite these descriptions under one tech tree to simplify.

Chaos for example could have heresy as an option.. perhaps as part of simulating the idea of corruption... we can assume that the forces of chaos had militray space fleets that were made up of non humans or something.

The Necron under this tech could lead to the development of patriarchs etc....

I know this may seem like a lot of work, but it would be easier than two mods, and would allow you to perhaps creat a sense of development from the dark age of technology through to the 40K we all enjoy.

Hell we could even throw in a race of Iron men, assume they've been building up and advancing out in the halo zone or something.

Sorry if my laziness means i've missed this suggestion elsewhere on the thread
Reply #95 Top

Thats what you would if you were making a 40 k game from scratch. This more of a best fit with the available techs.

although could probably make a few things, good, evil, neutral specific but again it is time to go through and build a new tech tree, and then play test to make sure it works.

Its an easy game to mod all you need is an art package and note pad. use notepad to change the xml files and photoshop or owt to change the desired png art files

grab my mod from the library and change it to how you want it.

I've given what you've done a go, and i really like it.
Just got to try and build some race specific looking ships
Reply #97 Top

Dieing to see some people knock up battlebarges and cruisers and wraithships etc

google gamesworkshop got to the home site and use specialist games part to look for Battlefleet gothic to fin 40k ships

been reading flight of the einstein

thinking of updating the mod

anyone got suggestions

sensible sugestions
first, you do a great job.
i love this mod and like the great scenario.

What about diffrent techs? each race have her own techtree. like in the star trek mod for galciv2....

hmmmm

i'm not sure how to do the individual tech tree thing, could probably get away with changing things to good neutral and chaos and having some things that go that way.

You should take a crack at it, do a new tech tree and post it in the library as an add on.
