Warhammer 40K

Is here already W40K mod for GC2?

Hi all, I would like to create W40K mode for Galactic Civilizations 2 or download some, if it already exists? If not, i will continue working on it (I have only race specifications and pictures of races and logos till now) but i would really like to create or play quality mod including races from W40K (Space Marines, Eldars, Tyranids, Chaos,Imperial Guard, Orcs,Tau,Necrons and Witch Hunters) including much more from the Warhammer universe (like dialogs, pictures and planets/stars names, also ships designs and also research like warp traveling, heavy bolters, psyker abilities etc).My only dilema is which of the fractions of each race I should choose (I guess there cant be so many fractions for each race like in Warhammer). If there is any other W40K fan who would eb able to help my in creating this mod, I would be very gratefull for ANY help or advice

40K fan, but no good with modding. Perfectly happy to help idea-wise, though. I would recommend Blood Angel Space Marines, but any chapter would work, headed by either the current leader or the Primarch, Imperial Guard lead by one of the commisars, probably (Yarrick, I think, is the best known), Tau (ships Air Caste, diplomacy water caste, planet side earth caste, soldiers fire caste, leader an ethereal, makes sense, yes?), Chaos (could do one for each of the gods, or just Undivided), Orcs of course, just pick a powerful Warboss (Ghazkull maybe), Necrons (lead by one of the C'tan). Tyranids might work, (I don't know much about them), and what about Dark and Craftworld Eldar? Eldrad Ulthran may be dead now, but he'd still work as a leader. Dark Eldar is easy, I can't recall the name of their nominal leader, but it's probably on the site. Post to this thread if you have any other questions or anything, I'd be very interested in a 40K mod.

Making specific SM chapters would be a waste of time. Just make general civs, and let people customise it how they like.

Uh...you can customize them ingame before the setup..you know, like every game you play...

I like the idea. Eg. WH40k dawn of war is a very good game and the universe seems very interesting. I haven't played the actual Warhammer though.

I have experience in 2D and 3D graphics so I should be able to create some new models too (like my favourite gigantic shipwrecks swarming with genestealers).I just dont know if you can change "sphere" models of the planets to other mesh, it would be great to create for example Craftworld ship model for eldars homevorld instead of normal home planet. But it can take time and I start with basic thing and editing text files for a game

Well imperail guard and the space marines along with few otheres, should be the same race becuase they are same race.

so sperating chapters of diffrent imperal guard and diffrent, space marines be kinda silly same thing goses with chaos and orks.

necrons also have diffrent sets and armys based on which god is leading them.

elder and dark elder have diffrent groups also elder and the dark elder dont really take over planets elder actully far as i have read dont even have a planet.

there more or less radiers and dark elder are pretty much same thing but as pirates. but dark elder do have home planet elder where pretty much wipped out by chaos.

necrons are kinda of same way. I would think to start with making necrons elder and dark elder as speacil events or random enconters be best till mod off ground id probly also thro tyrinds and orks into that random mess stuff till like i said mod gets off ground id concestrat mostly on imperal army with its diffrent units and tehcnology then chaos. along with the minor races and building of hte univres based on maps out of the codexs and main rule box.

once u have that acomplished ud have majority of game done all ud half to do is then work on the othere races.

best to work little and then get bigger instead of trying to paint the whole picture at one time.

I decided to make only one chapter for each race, there will be a Imperial Guard and Space Marines separated and they wont be the same race, I want to create all of the basic races (Im just nost sure about Daemon Hunters and Witch Hunters, they should be a special race or in a group with space marines, Adeptus Mechanicus will be part of the SpaceMarines even if they are quite separated), midn8t is right about creating a base of W40K universe and then adding some other details, I very appreciate all the advices and ideas here

I'm glad you're separating Space Marines and Imp Guard, as they are separate races. Space Marines serve the Imperium, but they aren't really human anymore (all those genetic mods). Another thing, if you do work with Eldar/Dark Eldar, then some fascimile of the Web would probably be needed. Maybe mod the anomalies that send ships across the galaxy, and use those as the Webway gates. Daemon Hunters and Witch Hunters should be part of one of the Imperial forces (possibly make a tech line for them, and have Daemon Hunter or Witch Hunter components to ships which would provide some sort of bonus). If you wanted random events, nothing better than warp-storms. As a strategist, the idea of trying to plan around warp-storms fills me with dread, but they would be a nice touch. And perhaps setting something like the Eye of Terror, permanent warp-storm, up to make transit more interesting.

It would be like making a Battlefleet Gothic mod really as their are no ships in 40k and this isn't a ground combat game.

I dont agree with you, even if there are no rules for space battles, there certainly are ships in W40K.Every race has a posssibility to somehow travel through the space (it would be boring if they just stay on one place) and in the W40K stories, universe have a very significant role. In overall look, ultimate goal of most of the races (except Tau which would probably like to live in peace in their corner of galaxy but they cant due to circumstances) is to conquer a universe and control most of the planets under their flag so they will rule the galaxy. Even if each race have a different reason for it (eldars ages ago achieved this, they contoled huge part of galaxy and they were technologicaly so advanced that the were almost invulnerable so they just enjoyed a pleasures of life, which become almost fatal to this race, or Space Marines who also conquered huge part of galaxy before Horus heresy) and they want their power back. This goals are quite similar to the GC2 goals I think

I agree that it would be more like Battlefleet Gothic (which, for those who may not know, is the fleet element of the Warhammer 40K universe, and contains all the ships and such that back up or deliver the ground forces). However, that sounds just fine to me.

I dont agree with you

You can argue that the sky isn't blue and the grass isn't green all you like, doesn't make it true.

Their are NO ships in 40k. Only "aircraft" if you play forgeworld. You obviously dont know what Battlefleet Gothic is as well.

Their is ABSOLUTELY no way to make the game into 40k, as it would REQUIRE ground battles. However using the 40k story, races, etc and using fleet combat would make it Battlefleet Gothic.

Hey, back off a bit. Once he saw what battlefleet gothic was, he apologised, and asked for info about it, since he didn't know anything about it. Cut him some slack.

Battlefleet Gothic is Warhammer 40,000. Warhammer 40,000 is Battlefleet Gothic. Just like Epic is 40k, and 40k is Epic. Yes, they are different games, but, they are all from the same universe, which is Warhammer 40,000. Campaigns can be played with Gothic and 40k combined. Just like this GC2, you have to have a fleet to move your troops to the planets to conquer them, in 40k you need the Gothic ships to move your land troops to the planets to try and conquer it.

so is anybody gonna do a mod are you all just going to argue over the correct interpretation of the 40k universe?
Yeah, probably not. You volunteering maddy?

Sadly while I'm pretty good at whole "seeing the 40k big picture" thing. My modding ability leaves something to be desired.

Might be open to collaboration in the, star names, pics for races, ship names department though.

Already made a gothic class battlecruiser (Drachenfells) from the existing human huge hulls, oooh tis a nasty nasty beast!

Best plan i reckon is to do it as a "the great crusade human expansion from terra" scenario me thinks.

have started working on a bit of a mod.

Got 19 pages of star names (and RSI for my trouble)

Got about 8 major race pics and icons

rewirting the race configure file in the hope that it will all come right in the end.

it might at least be a good base for other people to work from.

Imperial
Craftworld eldar
Dark eldar
ork
