Multiple accounts/Nicks...a no-no....

I personally have always found there's no value in re-inventing the wheel... assuming a new personna.... changing your Nickname.

Doing so just breaks continuity....people won't always then realise who you were...or are.

If you had a florrid past...so what?  If that is behind you it can stay there without any need to rename thyself.

But that's only the half of it....

The BIGGER issue is with the creation of aliases....or second accounts.

A wiser man than me has stated MANY times that he loathes the concept of 'false identity'....mainly because it has been used to considerable effect against him and his co in the past...[on other sites in particular].

I agree, totally.

Aliases [unless you're some sexy chick in a TV series] are all about deception and that is almost always for a negative end.

When duplicitous [and duplicated] accounts are found on Wincustomize.com....they get removed.  If they respawn then all 'versions' are removed.

I must admit however, that some of the motives for duplication are pretty feeble.....;)

Hi .. . my name is Aaron.
{Hi Aaron}
In 1990 and '91 I was known as Lurker1 in a Compuserve group centered around the X-Wing flight sim. I was a dork and was proud of it. I mostly flew the A-Wing on reconnaissance missions.

Now you all know the truth. I'm sorry for living a lie.

Also . . . my kids call me Daddy, not my real name.

Well, I've changed my nick recently simply because the one I chose a little over 3 years ago seemed a bit childish seeing as I'll hit the big 30 this year. I felt that f0r3 no longer fit, so I decided to go with Kevin, but someone else has apparently taken Kevin, which I find odd because I've never seem a Kevin but then again I guess maybe he's a customer who doesn't come to WC or JU. So, I settled on Kevin C. I'm not trying to escape anything but sometimes we just outgrow things from our pasts and that was the case for me.

There are legit reasons for changing names-- including just wanting to. If people are willing to go through the downside of it, they have the prerogative.

Multiple accounts, on the other hand, deserve the toxic waste bin that awaits them...

Back in the old days the site wouldn't let you change nick, you had to create a new account to do it. I did - that's why my user number is high, some of my skins were created before I joined and I appear to have risen from new member to moderator in less than a year! When I first joined I didn't really know what a nick was

Those people who create aliases to comment on their own work must have a very sad existence.

I had to change mine to accomodate the NEW WC website. The old site accepted the "@" in my nick but the new site wouldn't let me upload until I changed it. I'm so used to the "revised" version I sometimes forget it when I login at other sites.

There are people that have changed their nicks many times, not just once.  Can't speak for Jafo, but I don't think he means the person that needs to change it or the few that do it for a different reason.  Even I've changed mine once, to shorten it.  Its those that do it for all the wrong reasons.

Oh bugger, so that means I can't go by 'TasIndaBuff', and/or 'AusStreaker' as well as, then. Just woulda been handy for commenting on my own comments...to have an alias for when I wanted to go behind my back and say something about me. Oh well!

But yeah, having multiple accounts to conceal ones' true identity isn't exactly being honest with the community.....particularly IF it's just to mouth off in the forums and remain undetected/unidentified by the general population.
I noticed quite a few bogus looking nicks around the time of WB5's release, presumably, one could imagine, to anonymously seek advice/assistance with cracked versions that messed things up. Also, when somebody is generally mouthing off and making derogatory comments about Stardock and/or its products, quite often the name seems most unfamiliar....as is never seen before, or again....unless there's a new gripe or bad hair day.

Can't say that I'm opposed to the nick changing though.....some people may have reasons other than past indiscretions, and therefore, if that person informs the community of the change, I see no real harm done.
However, I was born starkers, will always be starkers (here and everywhere else), and will die starkers.....though somewhat more wrinkly and grey

Edit....but yeah, multiple accounts are a no-no and should be deleted...including the original should repeat offences occur.....it's nothing more than deceit and we don't need it.

My story is somewhat similar...I recently did my name change when I suddenly realized that a name change really was possible, because I've been trying to purge the "Jinn Fizz" thing from my life as much as possible. It's a long, ugly story that I don't want to bore anyone with, but it basically has to do with a busted relationship and moving on from that. I've changed over to Jinny Robot Monster, because that was a silly nickname that somebody else tagged me with, but I wouldn't be surprised if I changed again sometime when I feel like moving on some more .

But yeah, the people who change names like they change socks, or people creating multiple aliases (especially to comment on their own work ), is very silly and a waste of everyone's time.

Maybe all these posts are by the same person.

Maybe there are only 2 or 3 different people on these forums...

Now it all fits, yrag has been secretly posting computer problems under alternate nicks so he can solve them!

And Jafo posts mis-spelled entries so he has some place to post his little spellcheck gif! (...and of course the "winky" smiley)

Uhhhh...I think thats going a little beyond paranoia, LoL... Get help.

I have different screen names I use for different sites,4 actually, and I do make the effort not to mix them up and use them where they do not belong, why confuse people?

I really dont see an issue with people changing their "Identities/screen names" etc, etc.. But to do it for the purpose of commenting on your own work?? Im gonna have to agree with Fuzzy, it's pathetic....

Sometimes nick just don't apply to current living. Creating new ones just to comment or "support" the original account's post or comments, now, that's just silly and that person needs to get a life.

This is my original account I signed up on first day (or second?) day of wincustomize opening. Original nick too.
