My .02 bcs... I start at 100% military for colony ships. This only lasts a few turns. Then I micromanage research for the first couple of techs, putting any extra into social. Around the end of the first year, I stabilize somewhere around 70% social / 30% research and stay there until I build some TG/wonders and/or I am ready to research Artifical Sats. Then I go to about 70% research/ 30% social to get to Terror Stars. Once I get TS, or at some late
Mayito8888 is his nick.
But it is a new record - SD cleared his old one. Same with Loth. All of the games of the affected players simply disappeared. [Message Edited]
OK, I found the original discussion. You are correct. it was the 331 day drop issue, which was supposed to be fixed. Maybe Shakaar would get his points back if he submitted another game. http://www.galciv.com/forum.asp?BID=GF&id=167139
If games aren't dropped, he should have 6 614 Mpts. Now if they are dropped, I don't know the limiting day. For Shakkar, the nearest game is 443 days old
I think this also explains why some of the retired drop like a rock (like Jaws) when others hang around a while without a recalc (like Mag or Major Dallas). Mag actually pointed something like this out a few months back. I'll see if I can find the thread.

I have a question for the score calc gurus :) In another thread on this forum, someone who hasn't played since about July 2003 noted his score dropped to zero. Sure enough, while he had games listed, his total was zero. How could this be if the maximum aging is 35%? Are games over approx 380-390 days dropping completly?
I know who he is.. Mayito7777
Mayito (Renegade) was a top player and also removed for reasons discussed above, but the number one player in the original question was Lothmorg the Black. He was also accused of cheating by somehow submitting the same save game multiple times. Without opening old wounds too far, he protested his innocence privately, but left anyway.
I sure do not want less people playing I want to see more people playing. Sorry you got the wrong impression.
I know that this specific comment wasn't directed at me, but since I disagreed with your earlier post on this topic, I would like to respond here. I don't think anyone was saying that you wanted less people playing. I recognize that you are offering your opinion, and the opinion of others to help improve the game for all of us and I applaude you for it.
Personally I feel the entire metaverse should be reset to zero everyone starting over. This would breath new life into people playing. It seems that many of the top players were also Beta testers.
Um, I respectfully disagree. I think it would be the final nail in the coffin. I have been playing for six months now, and have finally worked my way to the top of page 2 in the meta. Climbing the boards has kept me interested longer than is usual for a computer game. If my
Hmmm....my points are all gone
How is it possible to have 0 points when you have games? I thought there was some base value where you didn't loose any more.
Toryn Star, Welcome to the Metaverse! You may want to introduce yourself to the Jedi over in the Empires section where they have their own thread. Just click on the empire button on the left of this screen.
The folks that took a hit had scores reaching back to 7/2003. Major Dallas just started in 4/2004. Maybe scores reaching max age trip off the recalc?
Focusing on just the most immediate issue due to today's events, the 30 day empty block penality. I can understand penalizing a player once. The problem is that it feels like a reocuring penality that takes months to work out as it travels through the block process. Overall, I like what the metaverse set out to do. I think it could be refined a little to encourage veterans to stay around. After all, those players who have been around a year or more and are still playing and encourag
Don't think of it as cheese. Think of it as funding a coup. You take over the planet and put those who supported you in power... :D
Great write up Newfy! Close to the strategy I have been using on small maps. The major difference is that when I trade with the Majors for transports, it is to remove them with an alpha strike of their own ships. After removing three or four this way, the others give me no problems diplomatically, so I almost never have to bribe. I usually end with a TS alpha strike instead of flipping, but at that point, either one is viable. The game flow in terms of build order, morale tempo, and
I have read that people feel that if your alignment is oposite of the AI majority you can get a higher score. I doubt that.

I am certain (since I can't reach the 60K cap) that having all AI set to evil when playing neutral give more points that using default alignement with playing neutral.
I don't know if the player's allignment matters much. I play as evil and get more points with all pure evil than with half chaotic evil/half pure evil
One thing that really can help the speed of your game is turning off GNN and letting go of the micromanagement aspect of the game. Load up your Governer's build queue and don't look at each planet each turn. It's hard to get away from it at first if you are a veteran of 4x games, but it really can make a difference. You just have to get confortable with the fact that your builds won't always be efficient.
Also, you might try turning off explosions and see if it helps. I think it has something to do with the animations using up too many resources. I'm not sure of this, so if it works, please let us know.
Sorry, no multiplayer option as such. Players can compete with each other by submitting games to the Metaverse. Also, team play available by joining or creating an empire.
antlers off of mooses Now that's just wrong!
Don't worry, I'll stick to "Wack-a-Moose" :D
Back to the original question... I wouldn't care if they were humans from 7 breakaway planets colonized from Earth. They are the "enemy" and how they evolved won't matter much after the Terror Stars arrive... :)
Yeah! I mean think of it this way, people will trust you thinking you're pure good. They'll never know what hit them when you turn on them...
And if everyone is afraid of the goodie-goodies, what fun will be left for us very evil types (:(
Enquiring minds want to know :) I like my very evil smiley and don't want to loose it. [Message Edited]
Colonize where you can have 2 or more systems in a sector when possible. They can eat the empty sectors around you but you hold on to your little island of influence.
How do you tell what the "home base" of a ship is?Are freighters "re-homed" if you buy them from the AI?To what planet are they reassigned?
This is how it works for me... After I colonize a few worlds, I'm usually ready to trade for a batch of freighters. They all get assigned to the same system of mine (picked randomly, or the last aquired, not sure which). After taking one or more of the AI's planets, if I get more freighters, the computer randomly picks one
