so an xml file is a text file used for organizing things, kind of like a text version of a spread sheet. They use tags like old school html. youll need to find it and open it with notepad or better yet download notepad ++. Then in the file youll see the npc portraits , and you just add yours in a similar fashion. Sounds complicated but you can figure it out :)

Jane, its been over five years, so my memory is really fuzzy. Did you update your xml file so it knows where to look for the photos? I think as long as you update that, they should show up during your custom civ creation menu where you add them in from there at the beginning of each play thru. Also, I think you have to tag them male and female some how, maybe in the xml file.
Thanks guys for all the feedback. I figured out the hyperlane issue not long after my original post. As far as unanchoring the Hyperlane, I still feel that should be possible. One commentor mentioned that warping/folding spacetime is a big deal so they shouldn't be able to be unanchored. My counter is that as many times per turn I like, I can connect the gate various other gates and redirect the lanes(which I think is a little OP, where as unanchoring them instead
Also, it would be nice to be able to unanchor them like a shipyard, because I ended up with obstacles in the path as well.
I recently picked the game back up for the first time in two years(coincidentally retribution just dropped). I do not understand how to use hypergates. I've built two gates connecting the ends of my empire. I have linked both gates together and have a diagonal white beam running between the two. At first I assumed you dock your ships at the gate and some how rocket them across. This did not work. Then I tried to follow the white line via autopathing on the
So I just flat out deleted that file and now my citizens are spawning with the correct portraits
[code="xml"] xmlns:xsi = "http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:noNamespaceSchemaLocation = "../../Schema/FlavorText.xsd"> LASTNAME &nbs
C:\Users\Ryzen\Documents\My Games\GC3Crusade\Factions\FlavorText\FACTION_DEFAULT_CitizenNames.xml(64,19): error: missing elements in content model '(InternalName,FlavorTextOption+)'
I did install it on the d: drive in a secondary location from my normal steam folder(something I do with alot of games because of space). Im thinking that must be what caused this, because when I click edit settings in the start dock launcher it cant find the home folder.
I'm on whatever the newest version was ala last night. Brand New Civ.
So last night I reinstalled this game for the first time since 2016 or 17. I followed the normal steps to add my custom portraits, and upon saving my civ I get all sorts of random errors regarding missing flavor texts internals, faction name files, etc. When I start the game with my custom civ, all of the portraits I added and my names I added are gone and it uses the defaults. Help?
Recently I decided to pick the game back up and couldn't find all of my original files(link is broke). So I made some new icons that I decided to base on an Ice Planet theme. So
I recently edited a bunch of pngs to make a better portraits for my citizens(I hate seeing repetition). There are nearly 40(half male/half female) photos in there with the backgrounds cut out so they display with the ingame color coated citizen type background. FYI Prince Pecker is not in the pack. I just captured that civ before I took the picture. <img src="https://scontent.fsnc1-1.fna.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/24312953_1894440847263241_390579037701908117_n.jpg?oh=e2ca78e750b1f
I had the same issue and am running the latest steam version
I am using it..Just have to drop the citizen portraits into the faction/citizen file in your docs then add them in the civ builder along with editing the names xml
