I can't imagine ranked with custom ships being a good idea, even with a separate ladder. I just envision ridiculous min-maxxing with everyone choosing 10 duplicate "optimal" ships that will work its way through the meta. I like 2 options: ranked and unranked. Add a check box to unranked to allow or disallow custom ships.
