Thanks. Followed your suggestion. No BSOD, just a black screen. Obviously hung up, after a few minutes I did a hard reboot. Looked thru system logs, didn't find any app errors. Is there a SoSE log somewhere? SoSE is the only program which doesn't run on my system.
As strange as this sounds, when I launch the game, screen goes black and computer reboots. Game launched fine after I first downloaded it from SDC (actually couldn't download it from SDC, support sent me a separate link, then I updated game in SDC. Not sure if that relates to problem.) I sent an email to support last Friday, didn't get any response. Any ideas?

Ditto. Tried to install this game from SDC 4 times, freezes entire system at different points during extraction (Windows XP Pro)

another bump. What an exceptional game Stardock. Speaking of those GREAT video tutorials, anyone else think the tutorial girl sounds a little like Inara (Serenity/Firefly)?
