Agree about unique ships with unique abilities and unique weapon sound design plus victory ditties (and the pilot animations with ship stats). HOWEVER, it would need to look super hot to be relevant with the current and future generation of gamers. Could the top down 2d style still work without looking dated and toyish in today's advanced gaming environment? Hi everyone, my name is Greg. Same story as everyone else plus I remixed the Yehat victory ditty for Ur-Quan Masters (would have done more but time...) I'll keep this brief as it's all been said already... Spent many nights of my childhood on SC1 against my brother and the same for SC2. That game was deeper than any other game around at the time in terms of gameplay, story and music. In fact I drop little nods to Starcon whenever I can... such as this synthesizer sound demo on youtube
Ever since the 3d style pictures of ships in SC1, the possibility of playing Starcontrol in 3d from the cockpit, or bone bowl, has been a dream...
A large part of what made Starcontrol a great game was the one on one duels and special abilities of the ships... it really must be carried over in some form. Perhaps early on in the full game, before you have a chance to upgrade the carrier, it would be wiser to send out scouts/single ships against alien patrols/probes/cargo transports (and take their cargo if you win so you don't need to mine!) Maybe in the main game, certain encounters will call for duels and others
