O^2 operation? Maybe you need to use something like the following for finding all the ships near a given point. http://www.ddj.com/dept/cpp/184401449 Setup time for the data structure is proportional to (nlog n) (only needs to be done once at the start of the AI's turn). Actual search time is proportional to (log 2)(log n).

Heh... Been there. Done that. Thanks for the help, BoogieBac. You guys are great!
Cool! Glad we could help nail this one down. It'll feel good to finally grind this bug into the ground You're telling me! I'm just glad I can play the campaign now. I can live with having to click through the intro movie for now. </font
I've got it figured out. If I change the line in my Prefs.ini file from "SkipIntro=1" to "SkipIntro=0" the crash goes away. Change it back and the crash happens. 100% recreatable on my machine.
BoogieBac, I'll try that, but it'll have to wait until tonight.
Excellent! I didn't have a chance to get on last night and play around with things. I'll definitely go yank my settings folder when I've got the chance.
I just sent my zip file along with the SmartException crash files.
ccarlton, make sure you delete your local data before reinstalling. Unfortunately I didn't try that when I reinstalled on my main system.
I can do that when I get home from work today. By the way, I downloaded and installed the game on another machine using my account, and was able to start the campaign just fine. So, it's not something account specific.
As a developer myself I can understand the frustration with having the product mysteriously not work perfectly for everyone. Frankly, knowing that the issue is being looked (and seeing updates like that) makes me a lot more willing to be patient while things get cleared up. Let me know if I can help in any way.
Thanks BoogieBac, I appreciate the attention!
bumping to get some attention
I posted a while back in another thread, but I'm guessing it got lost in the other posts. I sent in the SmartException trace to the bugs email address earlier in the week, but I haven't heard a response (not even acknowledging receipt), and I'm not sure if I should expect one. So, I'll try again and hopefully I can get this resolved. I can play metaverse games without any problem. However, when I go to start a campaign game, the applicatio
Kain Night: Update your video card drivers.
jscott991 : Just double click on the items in the list. The game will automatically place them on your ship in a way that is a halfway plausible default.
Veranator: Look at your driver date in your error log. It's back in 2003. Again, no support for DirectX 9.0c, nothing's going to work. You need updated video drivers.
Whoops! Looks like you tried it already. Hmmm... Well you're going to have to find an updated driver somehow, because a 2003 driver is not going to have DirectX 9.0c support in it (which GalCiv REQUIRES). You might try www.omegadrivers.net. I think they essentially wrap the old drivers with functionality to emulate what's missing. I know that with other games people have had luck using those drivers to get things working. I've nev
Eric Wilde: Yeah, I noticed that. However, the GART driver package that's part of that full download DOES mention your specific card (the release notes for that are down in the low-bandwidth section). I'm not exactly sure what the GART stuff is, but since it's bundled with the full package I'll bet that it'll magically install all the right stuff for you if you do the full install.
As far as I can tell, you want to go to the Motherboards with ATI Graphics section in their driver downloads area. Grab the full package under the High Speed area and install that. It appears that it should work for the 320M IGP cards you guys have. It's definitely worth a shot.
Silentfury23, your problem is definitely because you need to install an updated video card driver. If you check your log there you'll see a line that says: Driver Date: 11/7/2002 23:21:18 That's WAY old. Go out to www.ati.com and grab an updated driver. Make sure you uninstall your existing driver (fro
* Where are the buttons to take me to my next ship that doesn't have moves? I was lucky enough to discover that space bar skips a ship/fleet for this turn, but if you haven't moved all your ships and
On using the scroll wheel in scrollable lists. What I've found is that you can always use the scroll wheel if you place your mouse on the scrollbar itself. A few of the lists and text areas allow you to scroll when your mouse is anywhere in the pane. Please please change it so all of the scrollable panes allow you to scroll by just being in the pane! It's such a pain to have to carefully place your mouse in the scrollbar area.
I played about 1 and 2/3rds metaverse games last night. My initial reaction was a 10 out of 10 score. The game feels very well polished. I like the sense of humor. The ship design has lots of great potential. Everything runs smoothly at full settings. It's all good stuff. Unfortunately, I'm going to have to drop my rating down to 8 out of 10. Once some patching takes place I'll bump that back up. The game seems to be riddled with minor bugs
I was able to play a custom game just fine. Then I went to play the campaign. I got all the way through setup and it crashed immediately after the intro movie.
