Ohh okay how about this story line. You fly into this new system with your science ship. You have detected some sort of distress beacon on a planet and land on it to find some sort of alien structure embedded into the ground and a spaceship attached to it. (What I imagine is a structure like an open flower and a spaceship that has part of it inside the flower. Like a bee or butterfly on a flower drinking nectar). You land beside th

Well let me flesh out more the story.... So you fly to this new star system and you have to mine an asteroid to get resources to make some quick repairs and refuel. Once you have destroyed the asteroid and are in the process of assimilating its resources an alien race comes and declares that you have just destroyed a very sacred asteroid that has served as a point of pilgrimage. You are given 2 options either find a replica or die.... not much of a choice.

Yeah I can tell by your avatar picture you must get many of those "WTF" moments.... lol. The game is by far lacking in the many promises from SM but it still is a good game. If the game had no hype attached to it, it would right now be praised.....

Interestingly if you look at SC lore, humans banished all nuclear weapons to the dark side of the moon.... so it would make sense for there to be no nukes. The nukes were only brought out to fight the Ur-Quan. Having the first spaceship free of Weapons of Mass Destruction makes sense because that is the only way ALL nations would agree to send out a spaceship anyway. Think of rogue nation states, spies, James Bond, crazy religious fanatics, Trump supporters, hackers, mi

Happy days and Jubilation! Somehow the started working on my comp!! Actually it was a bit weird. My CPU supports the whatever 4.?? and my video card which is a GT630m or something like that has Opengl 4.3 It would crash on the streaming stars. So I tried the experimental and the game wouldn't run at all...... oppsss.... I realised thatI hadn't yet updated my video drivers since from 2013..... opppsss again. So I updated my

Still can't play it..... looks like it will be a refund for me and getting it IF and WHEN they finally fix it. Shame though, I am sure I would have enjoyed all that NMS has to offer..... I was really looking forward to it and naming the stars after the Home Stars of Star Control aliens and naming a few planets after them like Fwiffo-wiffo..... etc.

Let me give another example. You buy this super-hyped product that promises to be the killer Social Networking Service that promises to be able to do anything and the possibility to connect with 18 quintillion people (if there were that many in the world) at the same time and a quasi-consciousness one-mind meld telepathic chat, and share googillions of premium content. The only catch happens to be that if you are the first person to buy the service then th

I understood what you were saying. I just gave my own interpretation and view point that it feels more like they left the GM out of the game. It's like trying to play a D&D game by yourself. You buy a "package" but you have no GM to regulate the game and make it interesting and give it meaning. It's just you playing as GM and as a an adventurer. It is much easier to give meaning to the values delivered by two 6-sided dice than it is to 18 quintillion planets

That is very nice and complex for 2 dice. With clever use of colored dice to bring another dimension/meaning to the numbers when necessary. Which actually means you are using 4 dices just that you use color to designate what value to be used therefore can get away with using 2 dices. Clever use of dice is like clever programming. it is more exciting than a " programmer's 0-100% rating". I think that many games have lost this focus. Computer games were s

^ Oh I see they finally decided on a name. I was on vacation so I missed a lot of stuff. Still haven't checked many things. So it's going to be called "Star Trek: Origins"? Sorry I meant "Star Control: Origins". Is it final (I hope not)? Or we calling it "Star Control: Origins" for now?

Exactly!! This isn't some unknown basement studio creating a smashing hit. Such a gig would need a lot of exposure to make their game known. This game is coming from an established player in the gaming industry. Everyone will know and be interested. So the focus should be to make this the most memorable adventure game that truly makes you wonder what will happen. That makes you want to reach for the stars. To meet new alien life forms,

Well a good front page display on Steam with good reviews, and youtube reviews available to view should be good enough for a start. Steam does have a large audience and just being on steam should help a lot. However the problem is perhaps appealing to the new player who has no experience with the starcontrol franchise. What incentive would they have to play Starcontrol reboot over "No Man's Sky", "Star Citizen", "Elite" (well maybe not Elite), etc.</

Or if you want it your way, we can say that any manual maneuver will earn you AI research points where you can use to spend on upgrading AI modules in your spaceship that are used to automate commands. So basically we have a game where a lot of manual stuff is involved that can make the game tedious, and instead of having a player use an external macro program to automate the more monotonous moves they don't enjoy doing, the game itself can implement an ingame macro

Hello Tovanion, Hence my other suggestion on a badge system where you can perform 100 perfect landings that will make the autolander improve its accuracy by 50% because it has collected the data from the manual landings and has learnt from them. That is not minimal xp gain or xp grinding. Its an added bonus that you may choose to have or not. Because be it grinding for XP or for farming for resources. Some sort of grinding/f

Always nice to have skins. I just hope it doesn't go "DOA vollyeball".... or any other number of games were you pay absurd amounts for cosmetic skins.... you would think they were performing high risk plastic surgery on those pixels....

4 Replies 466 Views

No no, if there is xp gain it will be minimal. Minimal enough that it will not be a viable option for grinding. The xp gain would an icing for those who enjoy planet landing. Alternatively a badge system could be used. You do 100 manual landings and get a "Planet rider" badge that increases accuracy of autolanding by 50% because the landing AI has "learnt" from your 100 perfect landing sequences.

If Starcontrol reboot gets some RPG flavoring to it manual controls could be a way to increase XP for the main character or the crew. So autopilot will reducing accuracy will not grant any XP but it is automatic and quick. Manual pilot can be very accurate if successful and will grant XP depending on the accuracy of the landing. So either way you get your piece of cake. Those who enjoy planet landing w

Have some "reputable" journalists link Starcontrol with Pokemon Go (would that make it Starcontrol go??). Something like "Will Starcontrol reboot be able to catch on like Pokemon Go?" That will get you a lot of publicity with all those clicks and searches of Pokemon Go linking to Starcontrol....

Hello all... back from holidays..... I though I would make my presence known with a bang. It would be quite interesting if you combine KiSS with other phrases...... ahem.... Like Keep it Simple Stupid My Ass..... Kiss my Ass??? ahem....
A few areas where the story lacked coherence was that as soon as the Ur-quan found you, they should have bee lined for Earth to destroy your support base.
Nope that is not a lapse in story cohesion. The Ur-quan were in their ritual and too preoccupied to obliterate earth. Who who should go after earth? The Kzer-Za? The Kohr-Ah? The Kzer-Za were for enslavement so t
