Wasn't it said this game will provide awesome modding potential? That alone should provide some major longevity. Anyway, I know SC2 grew around the framework that was Super Melee, so fun and engaging combat is very important, but Fred and Paul's game is still remembered today primarily for the grand adventure it provided. The writing, the aliens, the interactive world, and the incredible soundtrack made it into a cult classic. Combat should get its fair share of focus, but I w

Oh my, I must say I'm liking the gas giants in that image. Some serious gas going on right there.

That's easy. 1. Threaten Spathi with violent death. 2. ??? 3. Profit.

It would be very cool, but I doubt we'll see much of that. I can't imagine what it would be like creating a map which would have to be different in appearance for every single point present on said map.

I have one problem with SC music. For some strange reason every time I hear the Futurama intro theme my brain goes "SC HYPERSPACE THEME!1! YOU KNOW IT'S TRUE!1!!" So, am I crazy? Just lay it on me guys.

I don't know if this is the best comparison but IMO the cartoony style of Star Control 2 is closer to that of the first Starcraft, while the proposed style of the new planets reminds me Blizzard's take on cartoony in Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3, and that was, and to some extent still is, a pretty controversial and not entirely well received shift. Ultimately, it's hard for me to form a definite impression at this point, so I'll reserve judgement until I see how the

Yeah! The multidimensional antics made the SC universe feel, well... even more epic and mysterious! We just got a little taste of the multiverse via the Melnorme, Androsynth, Orz, and Arilou in their little QuasiSpace. The tip of an iceberg, with a teasing inkling of incredible things hidden beneath the surface. I need MOAR!

What other stuff I'd like to see return? Multiple dimensions of space and time. They were emphasized a lot in SC lore, along with the strange creatures inhabiting them. I loved QuasiSpace, would really hope to see more things of that general nature. Maybe a unique race that has its home in Hyperspace this time around.

Funny thing is, automated quest markers have become such an integral part of some exploration focused games that the NPCs sometimes don't even bother giving directions anymore. Most recently this happened to me in Fallout 4. It goes more or less like this: NPC tells you to retrieve an item from the Juffo-Wup military base. Gee, is the base to the north, south, east or west? Or maybe near some known orientation point? NP

Star Control: The Next Generation Also, the player captain will be bald, and the game will measure crew experience based on your first officer's beard.

I wonder if there will be something like a quest compass in the new SC. If so, I hope we'll be able to turn it on or off, based on preference. It would spoil the feeling of blind exploration for me. That said, I would LOVE a system enabling me to leave little custom notes and markers in the game itself. Also, in SC2 I sometimes lost track of which planets I had explored and harvested before, especially in large solar systems, with multiple gas giants and moons. So it'd be nice

I took extensive notes the first time. Lost them. Took more. Forgot where they are. Again a few months later. Still more fun than writing MA thesis, would write again. [e digicons]XD[/e]
There were so many times where I inadvertently bumped into the planet because I couldn't see it coming because the post-combat view was centered on your ship... and I died anyway. [e digicons]:annoyed:[/e]
Haha, I remember that happening to me. I wasn't a big fan of how that planet behaved. Sure, it opened up tactical opportunities sometimes. But, in comb

I agree the standard loot for defeating foes and scouting planets was a bit boring. The unique story items you got for completing quests and following major rumors is what really shined (like the quasi portal). More loot variety would be great, as long as it doesn't just boil down to +1, +2 stat number crunching and endless inventory clutter. Honestly, I'd rather settle for rare but meaningful loot with unique stories and mechanics, than plentiful and varied loot with minute bon
I think you could please everyone by including lots of options during game creation. Enable/disable timed quests, static or random galaxy, set the size, number of planets etc etc. You could make every game unique while keeping the central theme or plot static or even randomize parts of the main story. An example would be (using SC2) that the Ilwrath-Pkunk war could be randomized so that theres a big conflict in the galaxy, but the

I had a love/hate relationship with the SC II timer. There were times I was absolutely frustrated by it, but there is something to be said in its defense. I feel that in some ways it contributed to making the game world seem alive and dynamic. In most games the player is the only agent exerting influence and making decisions, and (at best) the world is responsive and changes accordingly, but otherwise mostly static. The world is just there, frozen and awaiting input. In that regard SC
