My main hope is that this encourages people with less experirnce of scripting to achieve something with very practical day-to-day functinality. There will be plenty of objects with poor visuals. My add-on for wind direction and UV is a good indicator of this fact though the functionality is key here. In the end - evolution will tell which objects are most popular but if they all have the same base then they will all know our preferences, can all be updated and we can even pick

I have uploaded a new DesktopX weather object which is a good framework for new (and redone old) weather widgets. All the data from weather.com is exposed in easy to use variables including a 10 day forecast. The script including all the functions is designed to be self contained

You will be able to specify each of the 4 wallpapers for each of the 4 seasons. Each wallpaper will also be provided in 1600x1200, 1280x1024 & 1024x768 and the most appropriate will be applied based on your resolution. You will also be able to specify a directory to randomly draw walls from for each of these wallpapers.

Today I finally submitted what will hopefully be the next substantial release of The Natural Desktop for testing. It's been a lot of fun so far and I expect there will be more to come so I created a small article on JoeUser briefly describing the process for those that are interested

Working on The Natural Desktop ....... a tale of natural pleasure and pain The history The Natural Desktop (TND) has been a long time in planning. Sometime around February

On the occasional free second I have from now on I'm going to try to help making some more basic objects that people can take and customise to their hearts content. Sometimes the objects created can look really complex and intimidating, but the truth is that once they are made, if they are well mad

Sorry for those (NightTrain and a few others) with issues. I spend all weekend working on adding customization options and was away Monday, Tuesday but am back on the case today.

Chris: You shouldn't have to wait more than a minute for wallpapers, sounds or colors to update. It should also change if you change the location to somewhere in a significantly different time zone or your system clock. If things aren't changing then can you mail me your system specs (OS etc). Cheers, Martin [email protected]

OK, so let's get this out of the way ... yes I work for Stardock and yes I love DesktopX. I think enough has been said in the responses on the AquaSoft situation now. Hey, I'm British and polite and want everyone to be nice to each other Hopefully this summary not only outlines my opinion on this but others too: 1) The whole episode has been unfortunate and disappointing to those w

It is disturbing the way some people are. Whilst I personally find this behaviour abhorrent I can only hope that is enough for some people and prevents them from doing damage in the "real" world. This isn't to belittle the risk to young innocent girls (and boys) online just a feeble attempt to find something positive in the way the world is.

Couldn't agree more. It annoys me that people make demands on skin creators especially. I've come to the conclusion that some people are just plain ignorant and lazy. Those people in my book soon become ignorant, lazy and ignored.

As the person who does all the cooking in our household, and gardening, a good share of ironing and cleaning ... and WELL beyond an 8 hour day I firmly believe in allowing people to do what works for them. And yes, myself and my wife both work. We have no kids yet, but I'd happily be a stay at home dad! This is never likely to happen (stay at home dad that is) for practical financial reasons, but who really cares as long as it works. It's bizarre, because somehow I think society would l

There is a complete scripting guide available with the DX install or at www.desktopx.net/resources. When I have a few minutes (hours/days) I will start going through some of my objects and create an associated guide for them. This will be a fair task, but in the end will be worth it. I'll try to make it for artists and coders alike. Martin
