Mostly this depends on how you play. A standard, economy or mixed def-off based player will probably like TEC, mostly because they are easy to use...like the U.S. forces in CNC Generals. The Vasari are more for the CNC Generals Chinese players...their firepower is nice, and you can quickly get both resources and more ships, if necessary. As for the Advent...GLA...this is because it is harder to get resources with them, but their strength is tremendous once the economy stabilizes. Another

Yes, you can wipe them out. You just have to obliterate all of them. If one pirate ship is left alive, the pirate loop will continue to run. As an idea for use of pirates, put a large bounty on the people you want to attack next. This can provide heavy distraction as your enemies divert forces to weaken the pirates. They are also good for getting cap ships to high levels pretty quickly, since they are a renewable force. While pirates are often confusing to newer players, you need to lea
Or, off of what Kastronida said, give yourself more to start with. 15000 credits and 5000 each of metal and crystal aren't usually blown through too quickly. And concentrate on your fleet early on and technology later, for the most part while expending quickly. After a few games, you will likely end up striking a good balance.
BUT this is limited by # of cap ships. In a very open map, using 3 or more cap ships in the same front could cause massive problems in your offensive/defensive strength. Add that to the 16 limit and...you may not have enough caps to go around. In straight up fleet supply to power ratio, cap ships perform way better. Sometimes siege vessels are just necessary, though. Also, don't underestimate that 15 supply in the role of cannon fodder. As I have stated in both other posts, these are ex
I don't know what it is, but I think siege vessels are very useful in large groups. I killed 2 enemy planets with 20 purge vessels and a small support force and no caps in the time it took for 2 of my cap ships to clear out a single planet (this one was a volcanic planet, not even the enemy's capital). The two the purge vessels took out were a terran home and an ice planet. This means the twenty not only destroyed both planets' health, they also phase jumped in between this. While they are high
The Advent are great. I like Vasari a lot, too but...I just finished a 6.5 hour game with Advent. I love the illuminators and their siege frigates, plus their technology are just plain useful. All hail the "experimental weapon" mixed with the cultural upgrades. The cap ships are great too...I am convinced that one of each of their caps at max level could take out the other factions' under the same conditions. I also love the massive damage the, as I have dubbed it, "Ion Cannon" (three gue
As for GalaxyForge, it is a natural executable. You don't even need Sins on the computer to open it. Just unzip it to your hard drive and open the .exe in the folder. The only difficulties I see, though, are with the .exe itself. GalaxyForge is unable to place a name for your map on its own, for one. And my GF saves the maps with versionnumber 0, so I can't just make and play. I have to edit this by hand, but when I do, the map becomes "corrupt" and GF can't read it. (Be sure you're do
All right then. That makes sense. However, I plan on eventually recoding the game, sorta like RockPatch for RA2YR as soon as I have the knowhow and time. THEN I will have it set that these don't work. And I will boost the AI. It seems really strange, though, that Stardock left them in if there is such a simple way to get achievements. Another question to anyone who knows: Why is a green star so special (other than the fact they aren't often seen in real life)? It is the one excluded fr
Okay, this may sound like a stupid question. Is it considered cheating to mod the game in a way that makes it simple to get achievements (such as a super-powerful and super-fast frigate for one faction, no other cpu is that faction, and you fight 4 hard to get the "Actually HAL..." achievement)? This seems like it, but the game appears to enable it... On another note, is there any reason besides bragging rights to get the achievements? If so, what is it?
If I name them (this is reasonably rare!!!) I use modified anime or video game names (the theme may change game-to-game). It never changes mid-battle, though. My favorites are Legend of Zelda and Dot Hack, but Naruto names are easiest to make unrecognizable. Or I string together random syllables. My new 96 or so planet, 7-star map has entirely my creations for names, so the will to take the time to rename the ships/planets has worn off a little...
There is a sort of problem with capital ships' armor. I think that most of it is fine (the often mentioned ability to build them immediately is baffling, though). However, my problem comes with the burst power of capital ships. They should do damage more like a large explosion to damage multiple frigates at once. While it may seem strange, most fleets will fall to precisely 150 of the Vasari scouts, which seems odd. I can take out 2 Cap ships with a reasonable support fleet and defenses w
I thought about the issue last night and thought about some of my prior games in this...I also realized something else. Though it seems unrelated, AI modding (at least for me) in Red Alert 2 and Yuri's Revenge experience quite a bit of slowdown as well (though it is virtually unnotceable with today's PC's). By complicating the AI triggers a bit, Stardock may have greatened the memory usage severely. That's another possibility, but brings us all no closer to remedying the problem. The question (i
Okay, to tackle questions, one at a time. Pause, I can't comment about. I don't use it myself, so I don't know where it is defined. However, I can help with the rest of your listed issues. First, go to the upgrades/research screen. The third button down should say something like "Fleet Logistics". Click this. This screen allows you to increase your capital ship commanders (top half) and the available fleet supply (bottom half). You need one research structure per level (the totals combi
Another part is that the AI builds scouts and sets them on auto-explore immediately. They often have 3-4 running as fast as they can. They also build attacking forces as mobile defense/offense very early. You just have to be faster. Colonize quickly and don't worry too much about grander stuff (serious upgrades and buildings) until you have 3-5 planets. This will help with quick colonization.
Hey, this is easily remedied. DOWNLOAD GLAXY FORGE. Not to be rude, but a little editing time can help a lot here. I haven't actually played a galaxy with multiple systems, so I don't know how it works, exactly. But you can manually write worholes to other galaxies. So if my theory is right (you can only travel between suns), then just write a map with a lot of random planets and randomized appearance. Then put wormholes in between the systems. Five-seven stars with 120 possible planets should e
I would like to point out that against the CPU, there is a "continue" option for those of you who wish to build grand empires. It continues the game from the second after you destroyed the enemy...I use this to practice putting buildings down fast, but the empire-builders can use it for building an empire, especially on a large map. I do agree with this, though. If you want to play someone better than you are playing and have a chance to, not jumping on the chance is stupid. Some
Listen, it doesn't necessarily matter if your machine is far above specs. The "recommended" is pretty much a limit to average 2 or 4 player play. I'm not saying that nothing is wrong with the code, but more stars and players begin to stress the machine. I read that you can have as many stars as your PC can handle. This means that any issues for this are to be blamed more on RAM and Graphics than any form of code issues. This thing about "recommended" is a guideline for the average map, not 10-pl
I may be strange, but I found these ships to work just fine against CPU's...just not for what they are designed for. If you phase in a small group of siege ships, the CPU who owns the planet instantly diverts its forces to fight them. This really helps, especially when you are about to lose a capital ship. On another note, if you don't like them as they are, just mod the ships. This is easy, unless you are playing online...the download is small and easy to use. This issu
