Sometime in early October, I remember seeing something in my inbox announcing the October 23rd release date. I remember thinking to myself, "Cool! Can't wait!", and then something shiny caught my eye and I completely spaced it off. Fortunately, I got the email announcement from Brad Wardell while I was at work this morning. I *had* been planning to stay late this evening and get a little extra work done, but I have now decided to blow all of that off to leave work at my no

More often than not, I usually wait to until I have a chance to read reviews before I purchase a game, and in the case of most single-player games (or the games where my only interest is SP), I usually wait until there is a sale or price-drop before purchasing. Elemental is a rare early-purchase for me, and I justified making this decision based upon Stardock's history of supporting their products long after launch. As with most games these days, I don't expect any launch to be mostly
Here is my review of the game. If you can't spare the time, I'll spare you the drama now by telling you I gave it a good grade. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ahTehhLD5ec
I agree with a previous poster: plenty of room in the market for both games, because I know I'll be purchasing both. To me, they're different enough and provide enough value that they each warrant a purchase. Those on a tighter budget--be it with time or money--will have to give the issue more consideration. P.S. With Elemental and Civ4 being released within such a short time frame, perhaps someone could suggest a (legal) way for me to get by on 4 or 5 hours of sleep per week?
Frogboy ROX!
I have experienced most of the issues that he original poster lists; if he wasn't a beta tester, Stardock should consider making him a tester for their next release.:) As an owner of the GalCiv 2 series, I am confident that Stardock will continue to work hard to fix and improve the game with patches and updates well after the initial release. That being said, I think I share what appears to be the greatest concern from the original post: too much of the process of learning the
Not just "possible", but actual fact. I made a post earlier--which has since been deleted, without any complaint by me--showing proof that Elemental is indeed on some retail shelves, at least where I live. I have sent information to both Frogboy as well as Stardock Support regarding this incident. Here's hoping that all works out for the best.
A buddy of mine that works for Best Buy called me yesterday, August 20th, and told me that one of the games I told him I had been anticipating was available for purchase. I told him, "Bulls***!" He told me to come on down. There were indeed two boxed copies on sale, one of which is now in my possession. Photo evidence is below; I'll install the game and post something on YouTube later (I'll post the link in this same thread). <img src="http://blackmesalaboratory.com/images/ewo
Don't buy it if you plan to play online. I can't login to my account, nor can I create a new one, and a buddy of mine who has had the game for a week now is having the same problems. Clicking on the "Retrieve Password" or "Create New Account" button causes the game to shut down; nothing else happens. There has been no response from Stardock Support regarding this issue, so I can only assume that either online is not supported anymore and/or they are no longer allowing new players to create ne
SO I take it the infrastructure to play Demigod online is no longer available? I can't login with my user name/profile, and clicking on the "Retrieve Password" button in the game takes me to a dead link. Likewise, a buddy of mine purchased the game so we could play together, and he can't create an account; that button also leads to a dead link. Why has online play been pulled for a game that been out for just, what, barely over a year?
I first posted in these forums two years ago, right after I placed my order online for the entire GalCiv2 trilogy, about one month before TotA was released. GalCiv2 has resided on my laptop ever since, and while I haven't played it much as of late, it has been a constant travel companion and has provided countless hours of enjoyment during my light-rail commute to and from work, and during a few trips away from home. Change happens, of course, and I no longer ride the train to
** UPDATE **: Hey folks, I solved my own problem, I'll leave this post here in case it might help someone else. You can read what my problem was below, here's what I did to fix it: Went to NVIDIA control panel and selected app-specific 3D settings. For some reason, "Threaded Optimization" was set to "On." Set it to "Auto", now everything is fine. Howdy Folks, Well, I just built a new computer system and was looking forward to playing GalCiv2, but it doesn't work on m
Okay, so I've been playing the game for a week now, and here is something unusual that I'm seeing (I've read the manual, checked the forums, and checked the Wiki and couldn't find anything specific about this...): It seems to me that SOMETIMES the technological advances that I make are only made available to the planet that did the research. For example, if Earth completes "Xeno Labs" research, then I can build Xeno Labs there, but not on my other colonies. Likewise, I'm seeing the same t
As someone who just installed Stardock and GalCiv2 within the past 24 hours, I do have to agree with some of the criticisms of Stardock's download/install procedures. Being a very experienced computer user, it was natural for me to take the time to carefully study and make sense of the navigation bar on the right ("Games"...hmmm, ok, let's try that) and then to right-click on my authorized GalCiv2 purchase to get context-sensitive options such as "download and archive". Unfortunately, m
Thanks to all of you for welcoming me into the GalCiv community. I've had the game installed and running for all of a couple of hours, so I can't say much about the gameplay, although it looks quite impressive. Also, kudos to the game designers for making the game run as well as it does on any number of platforms. My laptop has a discreet video card with only 64Mb of dedicated memory, yet the game looks absolutely stellar. The only concession I made was to turn off anti-aliasing. <b
Greetings! The better part of my "surfing time" over the past 10 days has been spent doing a lot of research on GalCiv II. As a self-proclaimed hardcore TBS gamer going back to the days of "Empire" on the PC and "M.U.L.E." on my Atari 800 (which still runs, thank you very much), GalCiv II has been somewhere on my radar ever since I started hearing about it and the awards it's garnered over the past couple of years.
