The only sig I've ever had/used was an old BIOS error code that was simply idiotic.... "Keyboard not found. Press F1 to continue."
LOL I've gotten this error message a few times long ago in the past and always thought the same thing. "I would hit F1 if you would detect my keyboard jerk".

I hear where mausolos is coming from, but at the same time, you're not obligated to read any of the drama. Those screenshots all look great and while I also would love to see a continuation of the Ur-Quan storyline, I'm honestly just as excited to see what Stardock has put together knowing their passion for the universe and gaming. As long as SC: Origins comes out, it means I have an opportunity to explore that universe and gameplay again. By the end of this year I hope I'm talking about how
So if I understand correctly. Paul and Fred, still own the rights to the intellectual property of the SC2 game. But they do not have the right to publish a new game under the broader Star Control IP. So If you guy want to use characters and/or aliens unique to SC2 than you must ask P&F. And they need to have your permission to make a direct sequal of SC2. This is one of the rights you have bought from the Atari bankruptcy.<br /

Wow I haven't checked on this topic in a while and there have been some interesting developments. As I said at the beginning, everything that Brad and his company have done have been, as he put it, "taking the high road" and they are doing the right thing in protecting their IP. Laymen (i.e. all of us) get upset about what Stardock's lawyers are looking to do, but frankly, they are doing *absolutely* the right thing here by throwing in the kitchen sink given how P&F have acted and respond
That's a very weak argument and also one that I believe to be dishonest. We know what creator means. It's not what you're saying it means. Hideo Kojima is the creator of Metal Gear. Nobody thinks this means that Kojima is whatever you claim a creator to technically be. People know there's a whole company behind the franchise, yet he's still commonly labelled as its creator. Similarly, Kojima can't make a Metal Gear now, althoug
On the other side, Stardock seems to be trying to claim that F&P didn't create Star Control (my guess is so they can't market their game as being "from the creators of Star Control", which seems a bit petty as they most certainly are the creators).
The definition of "creator" is being misinterpreted here. Were they involved in the creation of the game? Yes. However, technically, when you work for a company
It has been really eye-opening for me, personally, to see people outraged about lawyer-speak on the word "creator" while they have made a public press release labeling me, by name, a non-party to the lawsuit, a thief resulting in an endless torrent of abuse and attacks and a couple of death threats.
Seriously death threats? That's outrageous. While I'm a die-hard Star Control fan and love the game furiously

The lander mini-game became obsolete once you could blast ships and get RU from their remnants, so I don't feel like it was a big detraction. In fact, the "danger element" was pretty high early on, so it was actually quite fun to try to nab the good stuff on difficult planets. The only thing I found annoying was hunting for biological life. At least with minerals you were always finding some, but with bio it was hit or miss. I'd love to be able to scan a system for biological life (if such a

I would say what's initially cool about Star Control 2 is this crazy story and this giant star map (based on real stars) that they give you with the game. So where should you go at the beginning? Well your fuel limits where you can go, so you try to go somewhere close by and grab some resources, which also helps you learn about fuel costs when sending landers, planet weather conditions, what the orbit color means (FIIIIIIIIIRE!), and generally how the game works. You go back to your home base

Spent some time with the latest build. Maybe it's just me, but the graphics seemed sharper and there were better sound effects. I felt the individuality of the ships more, but still a ways to go. My core issues still remain. It's also making me go back and play some Star Control 2. That game is still absolutely amazing even now....won't lie, big shoes to fill.
This discussion highlights why matters like this should be handled between the parties and competent legal counsel.
100% agreed, very unprofessional of them. As someone who's a huge Star Control II fan (like I imagine a lot of Stardock is), I respect what Paul and Fred did, but just reading what's been written, it sounds like they are acting like 5-year olds and getting upset over irrelevant issues
This is a great discussion. One impression I keep getting is that many people have t actually played the old super melee recently. My love for all things Star Control is well known. However, I also do t have the luxury of nostalgia colored glasses. There were some great ships and some not great ships. There were some exciting battles and there were some grindingly dull battles. Players will shortly be able to create their own

Honestly reading what they wrote, it sounds very personal to them and their reaction appears emotional vs grounded in facts. Now, maybe they are correct in all their assertions, but I imagine as part of the sale of IP to Stardock, Stardock's lawyers and Brad probably went over all the details of what they were getting and that's codified in legal documents somewhere. Whether Paul and Fred are aware of what's in those documents isn't clear, but it sounds like they are finally figuring out (bit

As a long time Star Control fan, wanted to give my feedback on the fleet battle beta. For the various ships, we need to understand what each weapon/alternate weapon does and how much damage it does (I suppose in crew terms). Right now there's no information that I saw that informs the player on the speed of the ship, acceleration, or turning, which is all very important I don't like that we're trapped in a circle with damaging asteroids all around the e

I forgot I had downloaded the music sample you guys put up from Riku and just listened to it now. I won't lie, it gave me a small chub. That's a pretty amazing improvement over the original hyperspace music. Lots of nostalgia in that music and rhythm. *Almost* got me to pre-order on the spot just from that, but I gotta see more before I do that. I've seen the MoO reboot and approach it with trepidation based on the reviews. Not all reboots go as well as XCOM, but I have faith the

Maybe On the Go had a SC2 fanboy that wanted the IP and would license it to someone else (like Stardock) to actually develop it. I think there was a company like that involved in the THQ IP auction. They flat out said that's what their plan was (the one's that bought DarkSiders IP). Only thing that makes sense to me.

Great post, thanks for sharing that insight. I'd like to think that if you can effectively create AI that trumps most people, you've done a good job. If the marginal cost of improving that AI to trump all people (sans cheating) isn't high, then it's worth improving it to that level. I get the impression it's not that easy from your post! I think what would be great is if developers were transparent about at what difficulty level the AI ceases to improve and they just get c

Actually, Atari is auctioning off their IP and I believe MoO is one of them (along with Star Control trademark). Frogboy mentioned that he wanted both of those IPs, although with SC, probably best to partner with Toys for Bob on the story while SD works the programming, esp since they retain rights to it. I think in the coming month or so, we may read a press release saying SD has bought the rights to one or both :) I would be thrilled for a return of either franchise. However if they want to

We really need a Civ 5 feature here where you simply cannot pass their borders unless allowed (and vice-versa). Also, can I get a "follow enemy moves" option like Civ so I know when the enemy is sneaking into my territory? I often ignore the ! because there's always some strong monsters wandering about I don't want to touch and so I commonly ignore that !.
