BTW, since you are in Belgium, you will have a very very hard time to find GC2 in store (it was released in Europe in Spring 06 ). True, I simply ordered it from Stardock, couldn't find it anywhere readily available in Belgium...

You can also have a look at each civilization's report to see what factors are currently making them like/dislike you (ranging from ++ to --) so you see what you should and shouldn't change. Getting close relations is also tougher on higher difficulties: on Normal it happened relatively often even in small galaxies, while on Challenging you already have to try hard.
Btw, moving up in difficulty is never a bad idea. Once you play a few games and are sure that you can now beat the AI at that level. Its time to move up. I went from normal to challenging to tough and now I'm gonna move up to Painful. (I hope it doesn't hurt too much) Looks like it was a bad idea for me, I'm getting killed 3 games out of 4 on challenging, while normal usually was a breeze <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/Hmm.gif
Hey, looks like we have a non-member reader. Thought about joining the league yet, Noctalicus? -Fire Thanks for the invitation FireBender! However this round I'll just have a look at the various scores to see where I fit in - just finished my first game on challenging (until now always played on Normal), I'd like to move at least one difficulty level up before joining...
Thanks, guys! Oh, and since I have to keep the Korx from getting wiped out, i fI take them over, do I still fail the mission? Sounds like it... Why would you even want to take them over completely?
... but most of the things we built were cheep and easy to build including the two nukes we used. The nukes themselves were not that expensive but the whole program to develop them was costly both in terms of funding and time. Just look at how many countries nowadays could manufacture any atomic weapon (whether it's Uranium, Plutonium or Hydrogen) and we're talking about more than 60 years later...
Bellack: The Tech speed is set to normal (I have never played n any other speed) Every game I have ever played in the Planetary Invasion has always been one of the most expensive (usally in the early rounds it starts at between 110 and 60) I don't usally get it until towards the end of the game. Now you said that you can research multipul Techs at a time, how do you do this? I can only research one tech at a time. Is ther a way to select more than one to res
Even though the events give good the shaft, I for the live of me can't seem to win with Evil civs. Only good and sometimes Neutral (if I'm playing the Terrans) allow me to win. It seems the other civs turn on me when I'm playing Evil pretty early in the game. Well, that's the idea, Evil choices have an immediate benefit but you should take advantage of these benefits to put you in a position where you can fend off some of the good/neutral races ganging u
I would say that it's fine as it is, quite well-balanced. Personally I usually don't even pick morale +20, I'd rather have a bigger economy bonus or even something entirely different.
"The essence of war is violence. Moderation in war is imbecility." John Arbuthnot Fisher The AI often sins against this one, declaring war without the means to back it up, or attacking with too little force at once. I seem to have forgotten most other quotes from that ancient war game "Scorched Earth" though, it's been over 15 years since I read them...
try playing without any morale buildings at all. I think you'll find you do better (or at least, no worse). I don't use them for the most part except on really high class planets that can spare the tiles to them for high populations. Seems to work pretty good and it's less stuff to deal with building. In the past I hardly bothered building morale buildings unless really necessary, but lately I'm building at least 2
bye, bye precursor mine. Sigh! What do you mean? Are mines less likely to show up using loose clusters? I think he had a precursor mine in the game he started, but now that he has to restart with "loose cluster" settings, he only has the usual small chance of getting a mine...
One remark, keep in mind that upgrades take longer if you're far away from your planets, so make sure it's actually faster than building the ship from scratch, at least so much faster it's worth the buy/lease cost...
- What about selling 1 planet to a distant AI He he, I just had a thought. What if you researched invasion early on, built a bunch of troop transports, then sell all your peripheral worlds and promptly reclaim them? Is that free money? I wouldn't consider it as free money since you would sacrifice troops, meaning you're giving up some growth and tax potential early on. I've never sold a planet though, so
I definitely agree on points 2) and 3) As for 9) I used to think the same, but these influence points determine how many votes you'll have on the next UP council. So it may be worth hanging on to your points, as so have no way of telling what weird suggestion they will be voting on next
Well, in view of your Metaverse scores and different strategies you posted here, I'm not sure whether I'm "qualified" to answer you However, here my 2 cents since in peacetime I tend to run my empire as a financial corporation. - Ship more colonists from your main planet to the others, using a troop transport module (if you have it; otherwise use colony ships). Your main planet may be more de
In addition it is also good to have 4 for example near a planet where you really want to boost some characteristic (economy, production, influence), or if you want to vastly boost your military capabilities in a certain sector. Other than that, there is no need to cover the galaxy with starbases - just see it as a cost/benefit thing: is it worth spending production time and build/upgrade costs on a starbase compared to the benefits it will give you? When I'm not at war and not prepa

...The small ship idea might work against the home world in "achilles heel" but they have fighters with 46 shield factor. As quickly as possible, try to figure out what kind of defenses they are using and use a different kind of attack. 46 in shields will result in a defense of almost 7 to the other types of attack, so that's something you can still overcome, for example with a fleet of small ships with say at least 12-15 attack each.
If it's an upgrade from an existing design (e.g. Defender, BattleAxe), I just add +, ++, +++ to the name or Roman capitals beyond that. That way I easily see which ships I should upgrade to which design + I immediately know they're small/medium hulled, etc. For upgrades from colony ships: ER for extended range, to reach distant planets For upgrades from transports: 2K holds 2000 troops and speed = 3pc/week, 3K holds 3000 troops and has speed 5 or 7 pc/week For designs f
Whoa, very impressive and extremely interesting/entertaining to read, thanks! Though it is a bit of a perversion that because of scoring, people have to avoid 1 type of victory (influence, anyone?) to go for another
Trying to close this discussion: I've often had between 200 and 500 bc in trading every turn in tiny/small galaxies with a handful of well-placed fully developed economic starbases. In some cases this was of the same order of magnitude as my taxes income, so on smaller galaxies don't neglect trade as a means of income... By the way, PeskyFly: quite a devious scheme, that hypothetical plan of yours <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/Smile.gif" border=0 align="ab
Just remembered that I certainly voted for the Neutral option on that question, and I still got the Fundamentalist event. And I have no idea whether the question and the event are related in any way.
Nice reasoning! However don't forget that your tiny ships will be mostly lost after combat, while larger ships will sometimes survive the fight and be repaired, which means that financially this is preferable. If you say something is more expensive, do you look at the construction cost or also maintenance? Would you care for an analysis of updating tiny/small ships with better weapons versus building a new medium/large ship and decommissioning the tiny/small ones, I think that w
... That said, any planet that has at least two factories that I don't foresee upgrading into something else will also have a starport. While these planets cannot build military vessels with any useful frequency, I like to have the pump out constructors at all times, since I use starbases widely. Is this why the AI does it? I doubt it. But you never know. There's only 1 way, no make that 2 ways to find out: espionage and conquest <img src="
